Guest Night Shade Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Hello, everyone What was your love at first sight deck? Mine was the Tarot of Mermaids. The background colors are so beautiful , and I love the way the artwork just seems to flow - it's the perfect deck for a Pisces like me! http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/mermaids/
Aldor44 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 I don't have nearly as many decks as you guys.. :-\ But I REALLY liked the Robin Wood tarot since the moment I saw it ( except one card or so)- and it is now my work horse.. Recently I purchased the Healing Tarot- which to me looks AMAZING! now I need to attune myself to it though
Esk Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 For me it was the Shadowscapes deck. It is sooo beautiful! I just needed to have it and it had to me my first deck. I still love it and feel like I have a special connection to it.
Grandma Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 There have been probably too many, leading to a lot of purchases that were either impulsive or careful, depending on how I'm feeling about myself when I think about them...but then I've always been a girl/old lady who gives my heart away. The most recent is the Antique Anatomy Ephemera Tarot. For me it's a meditation and art deck, rather than one which I will use for reading. It is even more stunning in real life than on line, and its online beauty blew me away. Another that springs to mine is Raven's Prophecy. Two of my grandsons, brothers who are 24 and just turned 21 this week, gave it to me for my 70th birthday last March. Even if the deck had not suited me I would have loved it. The anticipation on their faces as I opened it, their happiness that I didn't already have the deck, their excitement at my excitement, and their deep love for me, would have made it a wonderful addition to my collection even if the deck had not spoken to me. But it did. I truly loved it at first sight. It's spooky and gorgeous and reads like a charm. The Tarot of Mermaids is a beautiful deck but I have no desire to add it to my collection even though I'm a Pisces like Night Shade. Interesting. Our planets must be differently aligned or something (I don't know enough about astrology to know if that makes sense). Isn't it great that there are so many different decks to appeal to so many different "us-es"?
Saturn Celeste Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Oh this is a great question! I have so many first loves. Tarot Illuminati and the Radiant tarot were some of my very first decks that I feel in love with and I still continue to use them. The Buckland Romani is another deck that I wanted desperately! AT used to have the Galde Press button but it was linked wrong so I hunted down the website and ordered the deck. That was a couple of years ago, now the site is working correctly and the deck is readily available. The Sola Busca we bought from Giodorno Berti is another deck we hunted down, found his offer on his FB page and contacted him directly and he replied! That deck resides on a shelf nice and protected! I have 2 oracle decks that I feel deeply in love with as soon as I saw it. Whispers of Lord Ganesha and Shamanic Healing. I use these oracle decks all the time. The Ganesha deck is the only deck I use to read for myself. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/buckland-romani-galde/ https://blueangelonline.com/whispers_of_lord_ganesha.html http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/shamanic-healing-oracle-cards/

Jewel Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 If we want to go with real lasting love at first sight there are 2 tarot decks, the Robin Wood which was the deck I learned tarot with, and The Cosmic Tribe. I bought The Cosmic Tribe as a collector deck (1st deck with 3 Lovers cards), but when I opened it and started looking at the cards with the amazing elemental influences and the psychedelic feel to it I just fell head over heels in love with it, I instinctually knew the nudity was part of the concept not gratuitous so it did not bother me, and the strong use of elements and color just sang to my soul. We just clicked from moment one. Today I still love both decks and would never trade or sell them. Though not Tarot, The Faeries Oracle by Brian Froud was another and I am still using the original copy I purchased back when it was released. There are plenty of decks I thought I was in love with at first sight from internet scans, but the passion for them was tempered when I had the deck in hand. None of those have my lasting devotion that the 3 decks listed above had. Then I have a whole other category of decks that I have fallen in love with them after using them, so not a first sight thing.
TheFeeLion Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Love at first sight decks for me would have to be Children of Litha and TrueBlack. Both of them are/were Kickstarter decks but I was only able to back one of them (TrueBlack) I’m hoping that I will be able to get my hands on the other next year after my wedding when I have a bit more spare cash. To be completely honest though, nothing quite comes close to the way I feel about the TrueBlack deck. From the moment I first saw artwork in a thread on AT I was blown away. For the first time here were images I didn’t need a book to interpret. I knew what each image was trying to express and if there were things I didn’t understand, once the creator Arthur had given his reasoning for the image choices I knew exactly why he’d made that decision. I was lucky enough to get in on the Kickstarter for TrueBlack and have been kept thoroughly up to date with everything along the way. One of Arthur’s updates was to introduce us to his Devil card... omg... breathtaking! She’s currently the background on my phone lol *sigh* I could seriously wax lyrical about this deck from here until kingdom come!
TheFeeLion Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 *GASP* Omg how could I forget??? Froud’s Faeries Oracle! I originally had his Good Faeries/Bad Faeries book so when I found out there was a deck that had even more faeries I got it as quick as I could. It was my very first deck and I love it even more now than I did all those years ago :D
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Like others here have said, I had many in hand that I loved until I got them. It takes a long time to find our true sweet spot Zillich. watercolor and Thoth, what more could anyone want? Older decks? Songs for the Journey Home.
Grandma Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 I love how we talk about our decks as though they were living creatures. I was just reading back in this thread and realized that many times if I hadn't known people were talking about physical objects I might have assumed they were describing interactions with people in their lives. Is it because we see them as alive and needing the same care, respect and love that we give to the living beings in our lives who depend on us and on whom we depend? (I think that group includes every person on the planet, but that's a topic for a different thread!)
Penthasilia Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Seventh Sphere tarot- this one blew me away and is still my favorite reading deck.
Avalon Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 I will always love my Pictorial Key, but I am on a mission to find the Stick Figure Tarot(first edition). Meanwhile, I'll just prep Henry, my piggy bank-literally, for it. ;D
ilweran Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Greenwood, Llewellyn and Shadowscapes would be top of the list! Then first ed Bohemian Gothic. Possibly Legacy of the Divine.
odd_soul Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Definitely Shadowscapes for me! That remains one of my favorite decks. Also the Starchild and Moonchild Tarots, though I don't connect as well with the Starchild's images as I'd expected. It reads really well for me though! I also needed the Brady Tarot as soon as I saw it, which was unfortunately too late to join the Kickstarter, so I'm anxiously awaiting the day she opens her web store! It's funny, though. The decks I hemmed and hawed about getting and then finally got are the ones I tend to love the most, more than the "love at first sight" ones! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ilweran Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 odd_soul[/member] I suspect the Linestrider might be a bit like that. I wasn't sure about it for a long time before eventually deciding to get it.
Thoughtful Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Like others l appeared to fall in love with a few l saw, but then when l got them and tried working with them l fell out of love :-\ But a few years back l did an exchange for a deck l did not want and got the Roots of Asia in return. Now that has been a truly love at first sight deck for me, and l am ever grateful to the sender on AT. It is such a gentle, healing deck, its been my workhorse tarot ever since. But now l have a new love to accompany my Roots of Asia, its Poppy's Everyday Enchantment tarot. They are so chalk and cheese but they both give me wonderful readings. My younger sitters love the Everyday, its modern, colourful and depicts todays life style. Also the images are so detailed my intuition can alight on something relevant. Whereas the Roots is ideal for the older person, and especially for those needing comfort and sound healing advice.
Jewel Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Ohhhh can't believe I did not mention the Baroque Bohemian Cats and Wizards Tarot. Both of those were love at first sight and I still love them!
Flaxen Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 I’ve had quite a few of these. My very first was Ancestral Path which was followed by the Thoth. The Bohemian Gothic was also love at first sight - I love everything about this deck.
PathWalker Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 The deck that struck me the most, even when I only saw it in a book, was the majors deck Kashmir Tarot. I was then lucky enough to see it when Gregory kindly bought it to a meet-up. It made my hands shake just to hold it, it's amazing :) (There are many others I love too though) :)
FLizarraga Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 I love many decks (and have too many), but the one I fell in love with from the very first moment I saw it, and that has never, ever failed me, is Kat Black's Golden Tarot. That is THE ONE for me.
Guest Night Shade Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 I will always love my Pictorial Key, but I am on a mission to find the Stick Figure Tarot(first edition). Meanwhile, I'll just prep Henry, my piggy bank-literally, for it. ;D I'm really curious about the appeal of the Stick Figure Tarot - I know a lot of people like it, so I must be missing something!
