Guest Night Shade Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 Hello, everyone We had love at first sight decks, now what was your hate at first sight deck? Which decks made you cringe with disgust as soon as you laid eyes on them?
Guest Night Shade Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 Mine is the Gummy Bear Tarot. I love Tarot, and I love gummy bears, just not together. This deck just seems disrespectful to both of them.
2dogs Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 The Bright Idea Deck - Tarot presented as hideous corporate training material :'(.
Jewel Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 Tarot of the Witches by Fergus Hall ..... hurts my eyes to just look at it.
PathWalker Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 Gendron - I want to like it - but nope, there's always the shudder :( (Gummi Bears - oh I love 'em. If I've got to have the Tower, than those little gummi bears falling out at least make me laugh a bit :) )
Saturn Celeste Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 The Bright Idea Deck - Tarot presented as hideous corporate training material :'(. hahahaha!! I actaully like that deck. I have it! I use it for writer readings or people that I don't want any kind of spiritual type images. It's really quite good, it's a RW type deck too.
RavenOfSummer Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 It's a common one to mention, as I think it's one of those love or hate decks, but for me it's the Deviant Moon! It creeps me out and not in a good way. Like Jewel said about the Witches...I can't even look at the Deviant Moon. I even like the idea of it, but the execution and the art...shudder. However, I know many people love it! Just goes to show why there are so many decks in the world.
Saturn Celeste Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 Tarot of the Witches by Fergus Hall ..... hurts my eyes to just look at it. X-D I'm so sorry but the first thing that came to my mind was the teeny tiny little hands! X-D

Esk Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 I know some people like these decks but I really really dislike the Healing light and the Moonchild tarot. Not my style at all
odd_soul Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 I’m pretty particular about art, so there are a lot of decks that I immediately dislike, but off the top of my head, I can’t think of one that has elicited an extreme reaction. (And some of the ones I originally hated grew on me—Raven's Prophecy for one—and now I absolutely love them!) But two decks I bought but hated immediately are the Sun and Moon Tarot and the Thoth. I hate the borders and the text treatment on the Thoth with such vehemence [emoji28] And I don't connect with the art, though I do find a lot of it really beautiful (I do hate some of it though). And the Sun and Moon is too cutesy for me and I really hate the baggy pants [emoji1750][emoji3601] I know people love those decks but I hate them so much I don't even want to keep them with the rest of my collection! [emoji23] But I'm going to sell them soon and I'm so exited! [emoji28] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DanielJUK Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 I hate Doreen Virtue's Angel Tarot deck! I know she is a love or hate figure and her Angel goods are love or hate and there have been several threads across the internet arguing this! But I am not going there! Just her Tarot decks, I believe that Tarot as a system has positive and negative messages, life is positive and negative, you can only deal with the negative things if the deck is able to reflect that! Instead the Angel Tarot is described as "100 percent gentle, safe, and trustworthy!" Every card is 100% positive! I find this to be an anathema to Tarot as a system! I have no issue with the Angel Oracles, they can all be positive Angels to cheer someone up, no issue from me there because they are Oracles! But the Tarot is just wrong, I am 100% negative to it :)
Le Fanu Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 I know I’m in an absolute minority here but Lordy how I loathed the Everyday Enchantment Tarot on sight. Yes, yes. I know everybody loves it but everything I love about tarot is entirely absent in this deck and everything I really don’t want to see in tarot is glaringly present. A lesson in how to utterly strip tarot of all its magic and mystery and deposit it in the world of banality and dreariness.

Thoughtful Posted October 28, 2018 Posted October 28, 2018 Oh dear it very much looks like l am the one in minority over loving the Everyday Enchantment. l have my fav decks where the mystery and magic is present in bucket loads, but the EE is a lovely change to read with sometimes, and surprisingly accurate. As the majority of you here do not like it l will not issue forth on its merits, l have already done that on other threads <3
Louise Posted October 28, 2018 Posted October 28, 2018 Any deck with explicit sexual or deviant content. I'm not even gonna name the one I have in mind. I'd rather spare you from being scarred for life ;D (it's not the Deviant Moon which actually is quite interesting). I have no idea how anyone can read with these kinds of decks. It totally blinds my ability to read the cards. But to each his own... Another example is the Starman Tarot. I was eager to buy that deck until I bumped on the Lovers card. I just freaked out. I know the possible reference to a scene from the 'The Man who fell to Earth' but it's a too thin line for me. WTH, I was thinking. And the Choice element which is essential to me is completely lost there...
Saturn Celeste Posted October 28, 2018 Posted October 28, 2018 Any deck with explicit sexual or deviant content. I'm not even gonna name the one I have in mind. Oh come on Tobi! Tell us! Chances are I might even have it! >:D

My decks are used for readings with sitters, and sexual or explicit cards might lead to too much embarrassment :-[ Besides which something like the Decameron would be right out of my comfort zone.

I have a real problem with the Decameron, and it is not because of the sexual theme - but because of the nature of its sexual content. I personally feel that this deck has several really problematic depictions as well as (to be honest) really ugly ogre -looking men that hook up with glamour model-looking females (for the most part, I know there are some exceptions but very few)
Guest libra Posted October 28, 2018 Posted October 28, 2018 WTH, I was thinking. And the Choice element which is essential to me is completely lost there... Perhaps, on a new thread, you could discuss what decks do show that essential choice element well? I've always heard that as a prescribed meaning for The Lovers, but so rarely can get that out of any version I've seen. I would love to see what decks you think show it well!

Generally it is the historical decks; tarot de marseille and so on
