Guest Night Shade Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 Hello, everyone What are your favorite decks to use when you want a brutally honest, no-nonsense reading? Mine is the Lo Scarabeo Celtic Tarot. That deck does not sugarcoat anything; in fact, its messages tend to be a bit harsh - which is good for when I really need to know the truth about something, even if I don't want to hear it!
odd_soul Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 The Morgan Greer is usually the deck I go to for clear, cut-and-dry readings. It's not harsh, but it doesn't mess around. It's not a deck I would use for a more nuanced reading. It's basically "just the facts" with this deck!
Avalon Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 X-D There is never any nonsense in my readings! X-D I can't even say that with a straight face. I really only read with one deck, so my Pictorial Key is my everything deck for the moment. ;D I have the Halloween too, but the cards are just silly cute.
Raggydoll Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 I would say Stella’s tarot. Some days I just can bring myself to take it out because I’m not in the right headspace for hearing the blunt truth ;D. Thats when I turn to the sasuraibito. That deck is also extremely straight forward but much less blunt.
DanielJUK Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 For me, the Housewives Tarot and Zombie Tarot, they are both by Paul Kepple and beautifully retro themed with humour! But they both can really give a no nonsense reading, I often have to find a way to break the message in a card in a sensitive way to people I use it with :)
Jewel Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Not sure how I missed this thread. I actually have several decks I can turn to for no-nonsense readings, off the top of my head: Tarot of the Sidhe, Bohemian Gothic, Victorian Fairy Tarot, and The Alice Tarot.
Saturn Celeste Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I use my Radiant RW deck or Llewellyn Classic. They are very, very straight forward. If someone comes to me with a serious problem, I tend to use those decks for that type of reading.
Elin by the Sea Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Good ol' RWS is always my go-to; 26 years of experience with it. I only use other decks when I feel like experimenting or trying to dig deeper for alternative viewpoints.
PageOfCups Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 I use my Radiant RW deck or Llewellyn Classic. They are very, very straight forward. If someone comes to me with a serious problem, I tend to use those decks for that type of reading. I agree with the RWS being very straight forward. Unfortunately because I haven't mastered the art of delivering bad news, when my friends come to me with serious problems, I'll use a gentler deck (because once my friends sister asked about a relationship that she you could tell meant a lot to her, but then the 3 of Swords came up, and I could see the look on her face, and I never got over that). Less straight forward gives me time to think about how to deliver the news, but straight forward is good if you're reading for someone who already knows the basics of tarot (like the type of person who doesn't freak out/gasp when the Death card comes up in a reading).
Thoughtful Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 l have found the Thoth tarot a straight in your face no nonsense deck. l do not use it so much these days especially when it gave me Failure on the 7 Pentacles
Ncharge Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 The Templar tarot is very straightforward for me. And rather dictatorial as well. I didn’t use it for a long time because of its rather arrogant attitude but now I like it. Dreams of Gaia goes straight to the heart of a matter as well.
FLizarraga Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 This is a very personal affair, as my personal no-nonsense deck is probably your fluff deck, and vice versa. One of mine is, surprisingly, the Bohemian Baroque Cats.
Wheel of Fantastic Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Resurrecting this thread... There are three decks that cut straight to the chase for me. The first is the Thoth which just comes directly to the point - there is no b******t with the Thoth. The second is the relatively new Bianco Nero tarot, a hand drawn ink black and white version of the RWS by an exceptional artist. I think the absence of colour hyper attunes my resonance with the Blanco Nero, it's rapidly become my favourite RWS variant. Readings are crystal clear. The third deck is the recently re-released Gill Tarot. I've been using this Tree of Life derived deck in readings for other people and it gets straight to the point. The deck has some Thoth influence and I can see why US Games felt it was worth bringing back. There are other decks I've used for years which I regard as no nonsense decks; I find it interesting that the Blanco Nero and the Gill are new (to me) and have superseded those other decks apart from the Thoth.
Grizabella Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Any deck can be a no-nonsense deck but it's all in the way it speaks to each reader, so all the ones I see mentioned here are no-nonsense for those who are using them, not just no-nonsense in general for whoever uses them. :) This is what I've noticed anyway. The deck I'm using exclusively right now is the Everyday Enchantment. It's my "everything" deck so it's no-nonsense at times if it needs to be.
Bookworm Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 I agree with you, Grizabella. The only deck that I'm using right now for reading for myself is the Asherah, and I am finding it to be absolutely no nonsense. :)
GreatDane Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 My go to deck, the Pamela Commemorative, is no nonsense, but if I want REALLY blunt...Bohemian Gothic.
Saturn Celeste Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 My go to deck, the Pamela Commemorative, is no nonsense, but if I want REALLY blunt...Bohemian Gothic. I find myself using the Commemorative deck more myself. ^-^
10ofSpades Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Tarots Marseille de Jean Noblet The Fountain Tarot
sandrang123 Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 GreatDane[/member], love Bohemian Gothic. I know I say this a lot (so someone smack me!) but Everyday Witch is pretty no-nonsense. I also find your standard Rider-Waite the same. I also am fond of how user-friendly, no-nonsense the Spiral deck is, but maybe that's just me.
Jewel Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 The Alice Tarot, Victorian Fairy Tarot, Tarot of the Sidhe, and Bohemian Gothic are the first ones that come straight to mind.
