Aldor44 Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 Hey all! I need help picking a deck So far I have been working with RWS clones- The Robin Wood tarot is my main one the Llywellyn Tarot is my 2nd one- I have recently bonded with her and started getting nice results. I am looking to slightly broaden my horizons and start moving away from the pure clones- However, so far once a card doesn't fit the original meaning It baffles me - however I do want to move past it by finding a deck which is a comfortable transition- having some elements from the RWS while moving a bit away from it in a not aggressive way. Things I like: Nature themes Mythology- mostly nature oriented/ fantasy - but not over the top. painted decks details- its even harder for me with abstract cards with little details. Don't like- Religious symbolism ( unless it is pagan) Computer generated images overly gray/dark images Any suggestions would be appreciated
Guest Night Shade Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 You might like the Spiral Tarot. The majors feature various gods and goddesses. The minors are somewhat different from the RWS, but not so much as to be baffling. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/spiral/

River Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 I have similar taste. I think I'm going to try to get the Greenwood printed by MPC at some point. :) It's a system of its own, not RWS or Thoth and ticks your boxes. You may also like the Wildwood or the Druidcraft if you are into Will Worthington's art, personally I find them too Celtic, thus they feel a bit foreign to me, also the art is stunning but quite realistic. The Wildwood follows the Greenwood system (with differences in the court cards) and the Druidcraft I think is RWS based.

The Shadowscapes deck is one I was always wanted to try.. you reckon it might tick my boxes?
Kicia Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 Shadowscapes definitely fits all of your likes.
Jewel Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 Aldor44[/member] the Shadowscapes is gorgeous and I think it would tick your boxes, but be warned that the actual images on the cards are smallish (there is a Czech cropped version where you can see the images bigger which I would love to someday get) so some of the detail is hard to see. I would like to recommend The Green Witch and The Victorian Fairy Tarot. Both of these are very solid decks, not clones, are borderless, and the imagery is very intuitive and in keeping with RWS meanings. The Victorian Fairy Tarot does have different seasonal associations than I usually use but they were easy enough to get use to. I particularly fell in love with this deck which I did not expect to. I wrote in depth reviews on both of these decks here on TT&M if you want to get a better sense for these decks.
Cobweb Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 I luuurve the Shadowscapes <3 and it might suit you, looking at your wish-list. It's recognizably RWS so it's easy to read with if you already know the RWS system but it's not a clone and has a very different style of artwork, which gives it a different tone and feel. That said, I do agree with Jewel that the very detailed images don't work so well on the smallish cards. I find myself having to pick the cards out of the reading to have a closer look all the time. I can live with it but it is an irritating flaw.
