Grizabella Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 I got Poppy Palin's new deck, The Everyday Enchantment Tarot, for my birthday. This deck is a masterpiece, not only for Poppy but for the Tarot world as a whole. The cards are exquisite, even on the backs. The card stock is beautifully limber but sturdy. If I had a problem with anything, it would be that the deck is very large but the deck is so phenomenal that I'm just working with it anyway. There's the old "throw away the book" nonsense but you definitely do NOT want to do anything with the book except read it cover-to-cover. Read it more than once in fact. I'll be excited to use this deck to read for clients. I think the readings will be amazing. I've been working with the cards for 20 years now and this deck is the only one I'm using from now on aside from Lenormand and Kipper. My other decks are stashed in my closet and Poppy's new deck is the only one I'm going to need. My $25 half price Tarot readings from now till the new year is a great opportunity for clients to experience the wonderful deck in action.
Thoughtful Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 l have this deck as well its wonderful. It gets my intuition on fire. It has given me some amazing readings. Its a lovely change from my usual deck which l still use. The cards are huge but l trimmed mine and now they are workable and just the right size. Poppy's done a great job with this deck.
Grizabella Posted December 4, 2018 Author Posted December 4, 2018 I haven't done any readings with it for clients yet, but I'm excited to be able to do that. I've read about different things for practice and it's just awesome. I hope she sells a million of them and can then retire and just enjoy her life.
Canid Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Lovely deck! But I do NOT need another deck, I do NOT...talk me out of it please. I’m too busy with this...
Intense Tarot Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Is it a lovely deck nice & crisp images, I always end up admiring it.
Grizabella Posted January 8, 2019 Author Posted January 8, 2019 But my dear Canid, you DO need This deck! Wait till you see it and see what she's done in the book that goes with it. It's awesome and amazing. (( <3
Thoughtful Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Canid, looks like you have gone for this deck, do let us know what you think. I don't think you will be disappointed :)
Canid Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Canid, looks like you have gone for this deck, do let us know what you think. I don't think you will be disappointed :) I just can’t decide. It’s beautiful, but definitely different. And it seriously needs a trim but I can’t find my corner rounder. I think that calls for a reading...where is it hiding?
Grizabella Posted January 20, 2019 Author Posted January 20, 2019 Have you checked out the book? That was one of the deciding factors for me when I was trying to decide whether I could use it or not. Once I did that, then in spite of the size of the deck I was hooked. I won't trim mine but I'm definitely going to try to get a backup deck. I usually don't do that with a deck but this one I'm definitely going to provided I can afford it. I already accidentally creased one corner of the Queen of Wands card. I was so bummed. It's not all that noticeable except to me but it bothers me.
Rupicapra Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Hiya, I just started to work with the deck. I have to admit that the artwork on the deck is not super appealing to me, however, I love the deck. The cards are are bit too busy for my brain, so it forces me to sit down and take my time to look at each individual card, which is a good thing (good for my brain and for my reading). The book is lovely! But oh my yes, the cards are huuuuuuge! And my hands are not the smallest! I would love to trim them, but I'm too feared I end up with 78 cards with ragged ziggyzaggied edges (I'm not a measure twice, cut once-kinda person haha). So I overhand shuffle them upright and it is still difficult, but it's ok. I just notice I get less jumper cards that way, but maybe that is because I'm shuffling the cards slower too. I think I need to slow down with things a little anyway :D
Grizabella Posted January 21, 2019 Author Posted January 21, 2019 I have very small hands, too, so when I got the deck I wasn't sure I'd use it much. I can't overhand it at all, much less riffle. But I love Poppy's other deck because it seems to be enchanted too, so I really wasn't up for NOT using the deck. Once I read some of the book, though, I was absolutely won over. I deal the card into four piles, which totally randomizes the cards. Then I cut three times and I'm ready to spread the cards. If I'm doing quite a few readings or don't want to go to the task of piles of card, I insert the cards already read back into the deck at random intervals one at a time with the cards facing away from me and that's good to go, also. I absolutely could not bear to trim this deck. I'm not a good trimmer, for one thing, and for another, the art work on the backs of the cards is too gorgeous to cut any off of. One of the many things that impresses me about the deck/book is that in The Image section, she explains her own symbolic use of the traits found in every RWS card. I've never seen this done before in any handbook. She also has the segment of called The Story in which she has the character on the card speaking to the reader. And then the third category of The Meaning which adds even further facets to the cards. This is just a fabulous deck. I've been reading for 20 years and I've seen lots of decks and owned many, but this whole package just totally enthralls me. I'm so impressed by it.

I’ll give the book a whirl again. The High Priestess just looks so sad!
Rupicapra Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 Oh it does look amazing when it is trimmed! Does the unsymetric back of the card not bother you? It would freak me out! I normally don't have any OCD issues tho, but I think it would upset me

I normally don't have any OCD issues tho, but I think it would upset me  Nope, doesn’t bother me a bit. Plus, it will be symetric once I trim off the titles. I’m waiting a few days for that chop! Till I get used to them.
Setjezusenu Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 This deck looks amazing! I was really excited to see the diversity in the deck, and the images are so vibrant and intense. I was really happy to see a tarot deck that has multiple disabled people in the images, but I am hesitant about the Strength card - can someone who has the book for this deck tell me if the symbolism goes too far into "Wow, a disabled person has the strength to survive daily life! Amazing!"? Such ideas tend to be based on the assumption that being disabled is Awful and Scary, which can further stigma. I'm afraid to get my hopes up and end up disappointed by inspiration porn, because I love everything else about the deck from what I've seen so far.
Grizabella Posted February 9, 2019 Author Posted February 9, 2019 I love the Strength card and the book certainly doesn't convey the idea you've mentioned. I think it's because Poppy herself has a lot of physical challenges and so do I. The book conveys "don't think me less than or feel sorry for me". I can't recommend this deck and the book that goes with it more highly.
Thoughtful Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 The keywords Poppy mentions in the book for the Strength card are.... Patience Courage Endurance Tolerance Resilience Perseverance Calm Challenge Control Poppy then goes into a more fuller meaning of this card, which is inspiring for all of us whether physically challenged or not. It is a lovely card, we all have challenges to overcome in life one way or another, and l love that Poppy has shown such a happy picture of strength. It is a great tarot deck and a very good reader, do not hesitate to get it if you feel so drawn to it.
Setjezusenu Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 That's really good to know! Thank you for responding. I'm glad to know that the card was well described, because this is the first time I've actually cried a little looking at art for a Tarot deck I'm really excited by it
