Oh I love this topic and the questions are interesting!

I'm not a psychologist, not an academic and I no longer write for publication but I'm still curious about the lives and experiences of other people. In particular I'm interested in tarot readers and about what aspects of their lives other than tarot may relate to their ability to read. Personally, I'm a dud at reading and I wonder why others here can do it so easily when I can't.

 

Rather than asking for anecdotal information I've thought of a number of questions that ATF members could respond to that would help determine what sets them apart from me and from others.

 

Here goes:

 

Did you have an imaginary playmate when you were a child? Have you had out-of-the-body experiences? Have you ever seen a ghost or apparition? Have you ever had any kind of religious experience? Are you a healer as well as a tarot reader? Are you easily hypnotized? Do you regularly have vivid dreams? Have you ever done automatic writing? Any other experiences that you'd describe as paranormal or "psychic?"

 

I've seen posts on this forum that relate experiences like those above but I'm wondering if we could gather them all into this space and see how many of us have had experiences that (in my mind at least ) might be related to the ability to read tarot cards. I'm sure others are as curious as I am.

In my case is yes to all, except for being a healer (I'm not) or being easily hypnotized (I've never been, so I can't really say).

Are you a healer as well as a tarot reader? not sure on this one, I have never tried healing

Are you easily hypnotized? I have never had anyone try to hypnotize me, however guided meditations kind of do that to me.

I'm a beginner in this kind of things, I've had only a few experiences but I want to learn and experiment more in the future.

Oh, and I wanted to add that I do not think that any of this is required for you to read tarot cards. I believe that these things are more common in certain types of tarot readers, but that its not a general thing.

I’ve often wondered if this is linked to my migraines which is associated with an instability in processing incoming sensory stimulation. The greater sensitivity to psychic phenomena might have this as a flip-side.

Flaxen: Since I was a child I have periodically suffered from headaches that seem to originate from my forehead (third-eye area). And only a year or so ago I realized that these very specific sensations (aching and tingling) are connected to my intuitive abilities. I often feel the achy/tingly feeling when I'm starting to download messages or tap into my higher self (or whatever you wish to call it). And if I breath, relax and just let it come than the pain disappears (but the tingling often remains for some time). I actually told my doctor about these symtoms many years ago (not about the visions though) and she got my head scanned just in case. So its safe to say that I'm not reliving John Travolta's Phenomenon-thing  ;D

I don't think any of these would lead up to you being a tarot reader though.  Just that you might find it easier to read the cards than others do.

Did you have an imaginary playmate when you were a child? Not sure. I'm too old to remember... My daughters did - a shared one and it was VERY weird. Even when they weren't in the same room - or house, even, they would always say the exact same things about what she had done. With no communication between them. And it's not as if they were close - they don't even LIKE each other !

Also there's one dead guy that speaks to me from time to time. With the gravelly voice he had when alive and everything. I LOVE it.

 

I don't think any of this has anything to do with reading tarot though.

I agree with what others said, that this wouldn't necessarily make you a better reader; but it may mean that you're more likely to be interested in Tarot, or other metaphysical pursuits.

No but I once sensed my deceased grandfather who died 10 days before I was born.  I told my mom about the weird experience I had had and the smell of Magnolias (I was in an office building when it happened no flowers around) and she teared up and said that it sounded like her dad and that Magnolias were his favorite flowers.

I do not think any of this has to do with being a Tarot reader.  I honestly feel that reading Tarot is a skill that can be learned.  It comes more naturally to some (like other things do in other areas such as Sports, Math, etc.), but if someone wants to learn and is willing to put in the work it can be learned.
