Ravena Noir Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I'm at a loss. I really am. I'm so used to the RWS and more intuitive decks that I'm legit scared to pick up my TdM because I just can't understand it! I've been slowly browsing through this forum for definitive information but Tapatalk is a bit more complicated to find what I'm looking for. So what am I looking for? Gods only know. All I know is that my TdM has been haunting my dreams and that I recall a post here discussing the deck in general but no recollection of who posted it or where it was located. If anyone here, knows how to read them, knows what the pips mean, or knows of any reliable English book sources to learn this deck, I'd greatly appreciate the info! Flaxen Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I’d highly recommend these to get started: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Marseille-Tarot-Revealed-Complete-Symbolism-ebook/dp/B01LXVGNWY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1544531161&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=yoav+ben https://www.amazon.co.uk/Untold-Tarot-Reading-Ancient-Tarots/dp/0764355619/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1544531292&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=untold+tarot&dpPl=1&dpID=617m3yA5lsL&ref=plSrch There are various ways to read the pips - a real plus of the TdM. Some people link the pips back to the Trumps, some use numerology. Both books will give you good ideas and then you can go from there. Once you’ve got the hang of it, you won’t look back. :)
Ravena Noir Posted December 11, 2018 Author Posted December 11, 2018 I kind of thought cartomancy would be similar but I haven't had a reliable method of proving this hypothesis as the sources I seen vary in meanings. Untold is a bit out of my price range this week and i'm checking the first link now I’d highly recommend these to get started: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Marseille-Tarot-Revealed-Complete-Symbolism-ebook/dp/B01LXVGNWY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1544531161&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=yoav+ben https://www.amazon.co.uk/Untold-Tarot-Reading-Ancient-Tarots/dp/0764355619/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1544531292&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=untold+tarot&dpPl=1&dpID=617m3yA5lsL&ref=plSrch There are various ways to read the pips - a real plus of the TdM. HermitWriter Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I agree with Flaxen's book suggestions. You could also search for Tarot: The Open Reading, which is an older edition of The Marseille Tarot Revealed. It may be easier to find in a library. While you're gathering funds for book purchases, you could also peruse some YouTube channels. I particularly like the YouTuber Wolf of Coins. If you read intuitively, for the pips, you can key off of the design shapes, the flourishes surrounding or contained by the suit markers, colors, etc. The majors should feel a bit more familiar; some folks read the majors only. Others (including Ben-Doav) suggest the option of starting with the majors, then adding the courts and Aces, and finally adding the rest of the pips. It's a process, but it's very rewarding. And if you get stuck, this is a great place to ask questions!

I recently acquired a Mini Visconti Tarot that came with an LWB but it doesn't mentioned reversals at all but that is fine with me as I read intuitively for the most part anyways and those usually represent opposites & opposition. The artwork is easy enough to tell when reversed as instead of writing on the top & bottom of the cards, the writing is situated to the left hand margin outside of the image which the TdM doesn't do. This makes reading it a bit more complicated for me so this was a lovely choice to get a simple book to help aide in learning the TdM style. Very beautiful deck, and easily one of my favorite pip decks! Sent from my SM-J700P using Tapatalk
