Looking for Angel Tarot Deck Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I have a friend who wants to get into tarot and wants an Angel deck.  I do not have any Angel Tarot decks, but want to point her in the right direction of a good Angel Tarot deck for beginners.  If there is one with a good companion book all the better.  I would appreciate any help you guys could provide me on this.

Thank you guys, I actually sent her the Aeclectic link to Angel themed decks.  She was eyeballing the Doreen Virtue Angel Tarot deck, but I honestly know nothing about the deck other than it has too much writing on it for my taste and for a beginner I was wanting to provide her with some options that would be good for someone just starting out with tarot.  For all I know the Doreen Virtue deck might be good for a beginner, but my experience with some of her oracles is that she is that they are a bit too much positively focused and was looking for something more on the traditional more balanced side, and maybe with a decent companion book.  Does anyone know if the Doreen Virtue Angel Tarot meet this (aside from the writing on the cards)?

I like the Winged Spirit Tarot (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/winged-spirit/), which though OOP was not too hard to find or expensive until recently. I think that may have changed, sadly, as I just did a quick search and couldn't find an affordable copy.

Robert Place's Angels Tarot is also fantastic, and, also sadly, OOP too: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/angels/

Sorry, I don't think I have been much help... :(

I really appreciate the recommendations and please keep them coming!   My friend has no experience with Tarot so she is going to be looking at in print decks at reasonable prices.

Is the Doreen Virtue tarot appropriate for a beginner, and is it really tarot?  Or is it more Oracle like?  Is the book any good for beginners? or does it even have a book.  As I said earlier I don't care for all the words on the cards, but the deck is not for me so my personal preferences really do not matter in the big scheme of things.  I would love to hear about it from people who actually use the deck.

Hi! as seasoned Tarotist & 1st Tarot shop owner in my part of the world I have to say DV deck n book boxed sets are my fav & some of the best you can find for beginners as they seems to be aimed exactly at your friend type*I wanna learn Tarot deck with Angels!:) lolz so if your friend likes Angel Tarot by DV let her go for it!:) it came with nice companion book that sums it nicely enough to get started(same as her other decks!:) AND there is *The Big book of Angel Tarot (exact name!) I find one of best *Angel Tarot books ever!XD lolz it's TRUE DV Tarot decks are bit *sugarcoated (that's their selling pitch; *non scary Tarot!XD) & book is in same tone BUT imo once you know *meaning behind each card(*including scary*) you read it according to your beliefs/intuition regardless of text & image of card(imo these are more for person you are reading not to freak out when you pull *scary card!XD)?:) also be warned some of us got freaky vibes from this *Angel Tarot we had to rid of it in spite of all about it beeing great/except freaky feeling some sensitive persons got from it including me?;)  but best not to mention that to your friend until she get to work with it in person!^^ lol so if you prefer something less freaky I recommend Guardian Angel Tarot!:) and Fairy Tarot cards from same author!:) but imo if she want to seriously learn tarot best to get one of those standard rws decks?:) as angels(especially DV) works more as *affirmation/positive optimistic self help thinking cards?:) but you can still get good reading from it if you are good Tarot reader in general?:)

reall[/member], thank you that is exactly the info on the deck I was looking for.  My friend is looking at the Gilded right now which I think would be a good starter deck for her to get the basics and them move onto the DV Angels deck once she has some basics which I will help her with.  I think she would actually be OK with a freaky, she mentioned she has had some experiences involving Angels, though she did not tell me what they were (we are work friends so not real close).

Oooooooh, I hadn't seen this one! Me like!!!!!!!!  <3

It is lovely - I just got it yesterday. The cards are gorgeous, and gold edged. I'd MUCH rather have this than a DV deck. And it has all sorts of details about the angels on every card.

Someone described it as a cross between the Tarot of Delphi and the Golden Tarot. I see it more as if the Golden Tarot (Kat Black's) and the Victorian Romantic had a gorgeous baby.

You are welcome! Gilded Tarot is also great for learning Tarot as it's RWS clone so she won't need rws deck!XD also check for Easy Tarot set if you wish to get same Gilded Tarot deck & great guidebook it came with!:)

Actually no. Easy Tarot has a book by Josephine Ellershaw. Find yourself the actual Gilded, with its original book by Barbara Moore, which is a lot better.

As I have said in another thread - Barbara's books are among The Very Best.

I bought some of the Doreen Virtue Tarot decks and think they'd be fine for a beginner or anyone not looking for complications. The meanings are as RWS but just toned down a bit compared to most books. They come with guide books containing further interpretations but those printed on the cards are very clear. The main differences between the decks are the art work which is done by different artists for each one so it's probably best to just do some image searches on the web and pick the one you like best.

Influence of Angels - I’m so not an angel deck person - really. But think of it as renaissancy, high art, aesthetically dreamy angels. It really is stunning and beautifully executed. Gorgeous deck. It initially bothered me that I liked it so much. How to have it sharing shelf space with the Thoth and Liber T and Lori Wall - but I just love it.
