VGimlet Posted August 11, 2017 Author Posted August 11, 2017 Another week with the Hermetic for me, week 2 of 4. 8) Another crazy week. A good week, but crazy. I am looking forward to next week, when things might finally calm down a trifle. I can hope, right?
Trogon Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Hi VG! And everyone else for that matter. ;) I have had a good week with my Light and Shadow Tarot, but I think I want to move on to something else for a bit. Something a little more whimsical ... I'm in with the Sakki-Sakki Tarot. I'm going to continue working with my A'HA Oracle as well. Been getting some very interesting single card draws with that one. Trogon - Sakki-Sakki Tarot and A'HA Oracle
Bodhiseed Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Sign me up with the Ferret Tarot and Nature’s Wisdom Oracle please - thank you VGimlet. I hope the gusty winds around you calms to a light breeze soon! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Sasuraibito Tarot last week. My first reaction was that it was sweet and simple, but reading the body language and expressions brought another side to each of the cards. I look forward to working with it again.

You've got the Ferret Tarot!!!! I was so dumb and kept putting off buying it for some reason and now can't find it. :( That is such a cute deck! I'm really looking forward to seeing how it works for you this week.
Bookworm Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Thank you, VG! I can't seem to let go of my Rosetta Papyrus, so we are in it again together.
DaughterofDanu Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Sign me up with the Ferret Tarot and Nature’s Wisdom Oracle please - thank you VGimlet. I hope the gusty winds around you calms to a light breeze soon! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Sasuraibito Tarot last week. My first reaction was that it was sweet and simple, but reading the body language and expressions brought another side to each of the cards. I look forward to working with it again. I have the Ferret Tarot, back when I had ferrets it was a must have item for me. It's very true to their personalities and habits and overall is really lovely. It's a shame the cardstock isn't better, it's very papery. Nature's Wisdom Oracle is probably my favorite oracle right now when I need some warmth and comfort. This week I'm also using Nature's Whispers Oracle. Pairing it with the Dreams of Gaia tarot which I'll be reading intuitively, no book :) Thank you VG!
Scarlet Woodland Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Thanks for the new thread VG. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that the All Hallows Tarot will arrive tomorrow but with the Ebay global shipping thing I could be 80 when it arrives ;D Thinking it'll work well with the Tarot of Trees but can't be sure till the postal gods bless me (prays fervently for Royal Mail and not Yodel :P).
Page of Ghosts Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Thanks for the new thread VG! Roots of Asia will be one of my decks. It's the 1st deck I bought and I haven't worked very much with it so now it's about time! I don't know very much about buddhism, but the deck is a mix of tarot and buddhist philosophy so I should be able to get something out of it still. And it's super pretty, one of my favourite Death cards is in that deck :D The other one.. I think the dreamy images of the Roots of Asia could be fun to use with the Dreaming Way, giving it another week. Got it early this year and again, haven't played much with it so better take some time to use it. Page of Ghosts - Roots of Asia & Dreaming Way Tarot
Rose Lalonde Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Travelling with Tabula Mundi and Rosetta Tarot apps. Downloading the latest Fortune's Wheel podcasts (re Thoth and RWS) for in-flight listening... Thanks, VG.
Guest rakusribut Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 not completely sure yet, but i received the tarot droga today, and i think it might combine very nicely with the devas of creation.... so yes, let's do that! and i will still be working on my big reading with the vertigo and the runes..... 5 done and 19 to go... yay! must speed it up a bit, will try to finish next week, so gotta do at least 2 cards a day....
Bodhiseed Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 This week I'll be using the Ferret Tarot, created and self-published by Elaine Moertl. Along with it, I'll be drawing from Nature's Wisdom Oracle, created by Mindy Lighthipe and published by Schiffer Books. The cards for today are the Two of Coins and Bat: The body posture of this little ferret says a lot. His head is up, reminding me of the phrase 'heads-up,' which suggests being being aware of what is happening around you. His paws are outstretched, implying a willingness to catch and deal with what comes around. But the most telling is that both of his feet are firmly planted on the ground. Staying grounded rather than only in my head can keep me healthy and whole when I've got a lot to juggle. Most of my gardening injuries have occurred when I was focused on the next task instead of the one I was currently doing. Bat symbolizes what is beneficial because it consumes insects (a brown bat can eat 1000 mosquitoes in an hour) and because they are pollinators (300 species of fruit depend on them). This keyword reminds me of how absolutely horrible I am at multitasking. I will make fewer mistakes and do a better job when I concentrate on one objective at a time and then move on to the next priority on my list. Juggling is an illusion. ... In reality, the balls are being independently caught and thrown in rapid succession. ... It is actually task switching. ― Gary Keller
Carojulie Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Hello friends ! I am finding myself in a sort of dilemna right now. I am very in the mood for some "marseille style" deck right now, and for few days I have been drawn towards two of my most beautiful decks in my collection : the Vacchetta tarot and the Oriental tarot. The Vacchetta is a beautiful deck from Il Meneghello and the cardstock is absolutely dreamy, with delicate illustrations from a 19th century italian deck. It's a beautiful deck, the only think that I like less is that it has square corners and it is not as pleasing to handle because it prickles the hands ; wich is too bad for a deck with such beautiful cardstock that you would like to shuffle all day. I initially was planning to slightly round the corners with the smallest possible corner rounder, but my eldest son cried with outrage at the thought that I could even think of modifying such a beauty of a deck. According to him, it would ruin the historical acuracy, and destroy the whole spirit of the deck. So, faced with such heated arguments, I had to leave the deck untouched and it keeps its pointy edges. The Oriental tarot is also a reproduction of a 19th century deck (the original is about 50 years older than the Vacchetta), and it has been recently recolored in very beautiful watercolors. The theme is "oriental - asian" but the roots of this deck are in Italy and in France (chinese art was very fashionable at the time, and would influence fabrics, furniture etc). I am particularly attached to this deck, the Oriental tarot, because it is a gift from a member of the DOTW thread ! BodhiSeed sent me this very nice gift last year, and I have never ceased thinking how lucky I am to receive this warm unexpected gift, it really warms my heart ! So this deck is very special to me. Anyway. I am very much in the mood for this kind of decks, and I would love a week with the two of them, reading, studying, comparing etc. BUT. I am leaving tomorow for a long week vacation with my kids, we are visiting my cousins, we'll go to the beach, spend time near the pool, drink wine (not the kids of course :o) etc. I know from experience that vacations with this cousins are always very agitated, lots of laugh an fun, in an overcrowded house (mattresses everywhere to acomodate the extanded family, and cooking for 20 people everyday, including 10 to 12 kids). I know from experience that I will NOT have time to calmly study my decks, but on the contrary everybody will want to see my cards and will ask for readings. These vacations are the time of the year when I do the most face to face eadings for others One of my cousins might ask that I teach her some cartomancy, she has asked in the past and I think she might still be interested (I keep my tarot practice and other witchy side of my personality hidden from most of my family, but this vacation will be with my closest cousin who is also a best friend, and I am not keeping my practices from her and from this crowd. It's that special ! :D) So, I need to bring decks that fill up the following requirements : -"cheap" and easily replaceable decks, or decks that I will not regret if they get damaged (because too much people, too many kids, the pool... the tables filled with easily knocked off glasses of all sorts... you get the gist) - decks that I do not mind letting other people touch and handle - at least three decks that are easy to read and close to RWS, if I want to teach some tarot to my cousins, and let them have a go at some readings of their own - one or two decks RWS based but not clones, for comparison purposes (I am thinking of my teaching strategy here ! ::)) Decks I must NOT bring : - decks close to my heart - OOP, rare decks - expensive decks Because it will not be easy to keep them safe for one full week. I am tempted of bringing ONE favourite deck, not a too fragile one, that I would keep to myself in my suitcase and only take out at night when I am safely by myself... but I feel a little bad, bringing something that I would keep from my friends. Plus, will I resist bragging about a favourite deck, and showing it off, if it is right there in my suitcase ? Mmmmhhhhhh....... Anyway, I know that it is out of the question to bring either the Vacchetta or the Oriental tarot. They are fragile (both have beautiful old fashioned mat cardstock that does not seem laminated), they are rare, and I would never forgive myself if something happened to my Oriental copy. I have read for closed ones with it in the past, but only in calm, quiet circumstances. But still I want to bring decks that mean something to me, decks I like, to share the love and the fun..... it's hard, because I am so peculiar about my decks, I take so much care of them, always clean hands, always using protective spread cloth.... andduring this vacation, I know that it will be too much of an excited and buoyant environment, I do not want to spoil the fun by refusing that people hold my cards and getting iritated if someone puts a card directly on the table. Anyway. This afternoon I am packing all the family's suitcases, and I have time to think of which decks I will bring. Ideally I would bring 5 decks, that's a good number for one week vacation. The choice for decks is really tough this week ! I'll come back later to share what I take ; because right now I cannot make up my mind !
Bodhiseed Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Carojulie, could you buy a Marseille-style app before you go (if you have access to a phone, ipad, etc.)?
Scarlet Woodland Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 It came... it came... it came... it came!!! I have the All Hallows Tarot in my hands right now, and I love it so much there aren't words :-* The Queen of Cups is reading tea leaves, the Ten of Swords is a voodoo doll with dressmaking pins in it, the Seven of Disks is a punk dude playing with a yo-yo, waiting for the dryer to finish in a laundromat. The cards are the perfect size, the stock is satiny smooth and a lovely thickness, the bag is gorgeous and it even has a tin. I took me ten years to get my hands on this deck but the wait was so worth it. The Tarot of Trees makes complete sense to use with the AH but it just doesn't feel right for some reason *shrugs* next time maybe. I've tried a few oracles out too but everything's saying yes... but no. Looks like the All Hallows wants to fly solo this week :) Scarlet Woodland - All Hallows Tarot
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Smith-Astrop's Runic for me this week, thanks VG
jema Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 I am going with Holy Light and the TdM Trieste Totally unfair to Holy light as the Trieste is one of my fave decks.
Lantana Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Going with the Thea's Tarot and Slow Holler Tarot this week. I need their unique perspectives right now, and I'd also love to see how they compare to one another. Thank you, VG!
GreenFaerie Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Hi everyone, Sorry I'm late! I am sticking with the Victorian Fairy Tarot for another week - I apparently really need it right now, and it always makes me happy just to look at it. :) I've been so busy this past week that I haven't even had time to do the lovely Spirit Spread that Trogon found for me, so I will try to do that this week. I have been thinking about my other decks a bit, by posting about them in the Comparative Tarot threads - if you all are interested, I would highly recommend them! It's really interesting to see the interpretation of various cards, in many different decks, all in the same thread. You really start to see similarities and differences, and get new interpretations of the cards by doing so.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 re: Runic Tarot This has been out of print for years. When I pick my deck of the week, I always post it on my blog side bar with links to publisher or artist. John Astrop died a few years ago. The odd thing I'm seeing on this go around is a different person credited, Paul Crilley His name is nowhere in the book and Caroline does the art. My set is dated 2003, but I'm finding 2004 and 2005 dates online. Their stuff doesn't usually have second and third editions. Just a little mystery for today. I also noted Fool's Dog apps has one of their decks now.
Scarlet Woodland Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 It's ridiculous to be saying this already... I mean, home made majors set aside, I've had the All Hallows for less than 48 hours... but I honestly think this is my favourite deck :o. It took the Mary-El a good year to take the Druidcraft's long held top spot and this lil thing has snuck in and taken it again. I can't explain it but it feels like home. It was my first tarot crush in all fairness but how often do first crushes work out? ;D
jema Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 I remember that I used to love Holy light tarot. Now I wonder why. Off to the back drawer it goes.
Bodhiseed Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 I remember that I used to love Holy light tarot. Now I wonder why. Off to the back drawer it goes. I once had this deck but gave it away. I loved the symbolic artwork, but couldn't read with it at all. I think it was just too much symbolic information for my little brain to handle. ;D
Trogon Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Last night I did a reading for the person I'm training. I'd given her a reading a few weeks ago (5-card PPF, no specific question) and she'd liked that and wanted another. I have noticed before in several readings, that I seem to have an affinity for helping people delve into their pasts and that PPF readings are frequently skewed more to the past than the future. The reading I did last night surprised me ... as I dove into the cards, I found that it was all in the past. The reading was about a past life! It was a new experience for me. The Past-Present-Future reading became, instead, a narrative of a significant portion of the past-life personality. I have posted the reading in the "Readings" forum. As I was typing up the reading from my notes, some of the scenes and emotions which I had felt during the reading came back. It was a very intense reading. The reading is posted here; https://www.thetarotforum.com/tarot-readings/past-life-reading-(that-wasn't-meant-to-be)-sakki-sakki-tarot/ I will say that the deck is different. The art-work is "quirky" to say the least, but it is very intuitive to use. It is RWS-based, but many of the images (maybe all of the images) vary, sometimes greatly, from Pamela Coleman Smith's originals. Although it may appear whimsical to an extent, it definitely has it's serious side. I did give her a reading, before the past-life one, about her training and what to concentrate on to best move ahead. That reading was very good, revealing a fear of making mistakes which is actually affecting how she's doing. The reading flowed easily and seemed to focus on just what it needed to focus on. So, this deck seems very versatile, working well for helping people in their day-to-day lives, as well as being able to delve into some very deep issues for a person. It also seems to be equally able to fit within a specific spread pattern with meanings assigned to the positions, as well as working beautifully when there is a need to color outside the lines. ETA; The link in the old AT listing for the deck doesn't seem to be quite right. If you'd like to know more about the Sakki-Sakki Tarot, including seeing all of the cards, the artist's web site is here; http://sakki-sakki.com/
Lantana Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Using two decks this week has turned out to be interesting, because they play off each other so well! They have similar voices but different strengths. Slow Holler is the firey one, the one I've ended up turning to when I need to ask "what can I do?" Thea's Tarot in contrast has been the watery one, the one I use to explore my emotions and boundaries. They end up making a pretty good team, especially for someone deep in the throes of activism. It's ridiculous to be saying this already... It was my first tarot crush in all fairness but how often do first crushes work out? ;D But that's a good thing, right? My aforementioned Thea's Tarot was a holy grail for me and I was so happy that I clicked with it so well when it finally landed in my clammy hands... If I ended up being eh on it I think I would have been devastated. My first tarot crush is the Collective Tarot and I'm hoping that when (not if!) I finally get it, it doesn't end up being a letdown.
