has anyone done this successfully?

In a better world or if I were a better person this wouldn't be necessary.

I've had to do it to someone and it isn't working, I still see their posts.

In a perfect world I don't even want to see threads they've started regardless of how many responses.

So...have you blocked someone's posts successfully?

or do I need to buy black candles? block on new moon at midnight?

Sharyn, this is Saturn.  This is how you block someone.  Go to your Profile/Modify Profile and on the left hand panel you'll see Buddies/Ignore list.  Click on Ignore List and add their name.  I can check with Little Fang[/member] and see if this software removes boards on an ignore setting.  It might not, you might only be able to block them from PMs.  I'll check for you.

Ok Sharyn, you don't actually see what they post.  This is the message all posts will show:

You are ignoring this user. Show me the post.

All you see is the name, a box next to their name that shows if they are online or not, and that message.  There's no other way to change any of this, it's part of the software. ;)

Black candles? Really?  X-D

Well we have the Super Wolf Blood Moon coming up!  Surely that will help!  >:D

I just tried it out blocking LadyM (sorry Saturn!), I undid it <3

It blocks them but you still see their name on posts and it says do you want to see this post on each of their posts? AT worked in the same way, I had a few people on there blocked and it still had the posts in line or their threads but would block them. It still has a placement for their stuff or it would break the forum tables to have nothing but space there :) But you can't see their writings or content.

Make sure you add their name exactly here, when I tried it out it brought up their profile name but if you don't include a space or anything in the name, it won't ignore the right person.

Aww Come on, you didn't like my bug?  >:D

You are totally right! Thank you Daniel!  If you're not sure, just copy and paste the name into the Edit Ignore List (Dan's link).  Also, when you begin typing the name, sometimes an autofill pops up and you can click on that and then the Add button.

thanks all, yes I did it correctly then, and I'll just never click on that person's  threads,

and be content with being protected from advertently seeing their posts within any thread.

I know AT was that way, and now I understand why the blank spaces would be a drain on resources, thanks for explaining that. I'll add it to the perfect world dream though.

Still going to do big wu-ju on the moon. Maybe not the black candles...

I spoke too soon, I'm seeing that person's posts on current threads in spite of being blocked.

I copy and pasted the name the first time, but did it again just in case, and the name also popped up below where I pasted it so know it is correct.

re entered it reblocked. posts still there.

I only ever blocked two people in all the years at was on AT and this was one of them. This is a forum deal breaker for me. I'll come back in a day or so and see if maybe it is just a time thing. thanks, Sharyn

Go to profile tab, in the modify profile tab go to look and layout.

Make sure the option 'hide messages posted by members on my ignore list' is ticked.

Sorry for shorthand, i have no patience for typing on tablet  :D

can you also see which member has blocked you,, so you don't brother responding to their posts.. ,  or sending them pms years later. well blocking member i suppose would block their pms exchange as well. so that is a moot point..

but the respond to their posts is a big one for me.

nothing worse on fb then sending messages and getting no responses.

And lunar eclipses (Jan 20) have a way of putting an end to things, too... ;)

Sorry to hear of your troubles, though.

Well, and black candles can be very protective, and make you invisible to others...not a bad choice if you're doing a spell soon, on the eclipse.

I don't think you can see who has blocked you. You couldn't on AT - Lillie and I tested it once and PMs to each other just disappeared. On one forum I'm on it says "this member has chosen not to receive messages" - so since you can see that they DO accept them in general, you can tell that it's personal.

Responding to their posts - well, others might be interested in what you have to say. I have someone blocked here and I get exactly the message Lady M posted. No sign of their posts.

thanks for the extra brainpower about the second step required.

I'll lay it out here should it ever come in handy, although I hope it doesn't for anyone else.

click on Profile tab at the top of the page

In Modify Profile find 'buddy/ignore list (I don't know what the buddy list does)

click on ignore

Edit ignore, scroll down

Be sure you have the correct username

Then in the modify profile

click on Look and Layout

scroll down and check Hide messages posted by members on my ignore list.

and remember to Save Changes at the bottom.

thanks for the help, again, Sharyn

I was a member of AT for 17 years and I never blocked anyone  so I'm learning a lot here. There was one person I'd have loved  not to see, but I just never blocked them.

Anyway, thanks for posting this thread. Now I have the tools to block somebody if I ever need or want to.  :)

I don't get why someone wants to block someone? Every comment and side of any opinion is welcomed, this is what I learned here - respect all members.

It's ok John.  It's a big community and sometimes personalities clash.  It's a quiet way of making this place more of a home to each and every member.  It's better to block than to argue.

I'm surprised it is doable, if I remember correctly..just from experiments mind you, it couldn't be done there.

It's not just a matter of opinions as such; there are members who post the same thing repeatedly in thread after thread, for instance - and the other huge reason would identify someone I have blocked, so I won't do that ! But if there is a genuine new opinion in any particular thread, you can just click to view that one post.

I'm surprised it is possible to block a mod. You couldn't on AT - I tried once (with the mod's co-operation !) But you can here - I just tried and did !!! (I have immediately unblocked you, Saturn Celeste, honest !)
