VGimlet Posted August 18, 2017 Author Posted August 18, 2017 I'm in with the Hermetic Tarot again, even though I'm tempted by my newest incoming arrivals, including Cathy McClelland's Star tarot which I've been waiting for FOREVER.
Scarlet Woodland Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Yay! Glad to see someone's getting theirs :D Was a really tough choice for me this week as I was tempted to keep going with last week's wonderful decks but don't want them to go stale from overuse. Pleased to find the Japaridze is finally calling me after sitting on my shelf forever, so it's the Japaridze Tarot and the Spirit De La Lune for me :) Scarlet Woodland - Japaridze Tarot & Spirit De La Lune
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 sorry, I'm still stumbling around this forum. I've been using the Runic Tarot this week, which is barely tarot. The suits are the pagan seasons and the majors are runes there are 12 cards to each suit with no courts. The minor cards are related to a week of the pagan year.. I enjoy using it on my blog, but I wouldn't use it to read for someone :)
Bodhiseed Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 I enjoy using it on my blog, but I wouldn't use it to read for someone :) I have several that would fall into this category. :D I'm in this week with Fairytale Tarot (MRP) and Tree Affirmation Cards - thanks VG!
jema Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 I hardly touched my deck last week but only due to having too much books to read. This week I picked up a lovely TdM again. The Rhenan Piatnic and paired it off with the Kazanlar. Skickat från min HTC Desire 626 via Tapatalk
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Ok, I've made up my mind, the Victorian Fairy Tarot from Weatherstone and Lippincott I'm not a fairy/angel person at all but I liked the art, and when I got the deck I liked it all. Never say never :)
GreenFaerie Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Victorian Fairy Tarot again for me please, VG! RL is speeding up, so I am going to have to be more determined about setting aside time for my cards. AJ, I would love to know what you think of the VFT! As I think everyone here knows by now, it is my first and favorite deck. I find it so illuminating in so many ways. Having the suits as seasons actually helps me; it makes more inherent sense to me than the regular suits.
Bodhiseed Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 My decks out for lunch... Wish I was having lunch with you today! :)
DaughterofDanu Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Going to work with the Ostara and the Dreams of Gaia tarot again. I ordered the Ostara when it was on sale about $10 off on Amazon. I've been very curious about it. Once I got in in my hands I like it, but I'm not sure if I like it enough to have it become a part of my regular reading bunch that stay out on my table in a little organizer. So I'm giving it my direct attention this week to find out. I'm still drawn to the Dreams of Gaia, it's a great "love and light" type deck for me, good for stressful weeks. Thanks VG Hope everyone has a great week!!
Mi-Shell Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Hi everyone! I just received a Crystal Tarot - by Elisabetta Trevisan as a gift and would like to participate in the DOTW with it. My focus will be to get to know this deck and work with its unillustrated pip cards, that follow a system different from RWS.
Trogon Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Hi VG & everyone! Although I did get to do a couple of readings with the Sakki-Sakki Tarot, I didn't get to do one for myself this past week. Just a tad too many things going on. I have continued to do one and two-card draws with the A'HA Oracle and oddly enough, I keep getting repeat cards - so there's a message there that still hasn't sunk in. ::) So, I reckon I'll use both of these for another week. ;D Trogon - Sakki-Sakki Tarot and A'HA Oracle
Bookworm Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Still in with the Rosetta. It continues to surprise me. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Mindful Tarot Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Last couple of weeks I've been swamped. Want to come back with my Victoria Regina. Thanks VG!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Madame Squee Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 I'm in with the Stretch Tarot and Rana George Lenormand this week. Thank you for the thread, VG!
jema Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 I'm in with the Stretch Tarot and Rana George Lenormand this week. Thank you for the thread, VG! Ah I love Stretch tarot so much I gave it my most beautiful Sulis bag.
Page of Ghosts Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 I was visiting some friends in Oslo this weekend so I didn't get to do my daily readings or change decks, but starting yesterday (Monday) I'm back and using the two new decks I found at a nice little shop there: Joie de Vivre, which has been on my wishlist since I started doing tarot 3-4 years ago and just seems super cute and fun, and the Aquarian, a deck I love for the strong reds and art deco but the white pencilled faces I have a hard time making my mind up on. Some work, others don't as much. Still it's a classic and at some time I'd love to use it together with my other 70's deck, the Morgan-Greer :D Page of Ghosts - Joie de Vivre and Aquarian Tarot
Bodhiseed Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 From the Fairytale Tarot, the Queen of Wands; from the Tree Affirmation Cards, Whispering Ash: In the tale of "Kip the Magic Cat," the queen's cat gives birth to a kitten as the queen gives birth to a princess. The kitten eventually saves the princess, and in so doing, saves herself. A spell Kip and her mother had been under was broken, and both turned back into humans. I found a Rumi quote in my email this morning that seems appropriate for this story: "Be a lamp, or a lifeboat, or a ladder. Help someone's soul heal." It is hard for humans not to look at everything through self-centered glasses. How do we even begin to practice selflessness when the world seems overwhelmed with pain and hatred right now? The Whispering Ash is a tree that is stirred by even the slightest breeze; its message is to be just as sensitive to any intuitive thought that redirects us from our repetitive self-interest. The ladders or lamps we extend to another may be as simple as the offer of a cup of coffee and a willingness to listen. We give the gift of kindness and get a break from our self-absorption - both sides benefit.
Mi-Shell Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 My deck, the Crystal Tarot by Elisabetta Trevisan presents me with a few hurdles to overcome: 1.) The suit of Swords stands for the element of Water and although I am looking at none scenic pips, the swords all dripping water stump me I somehow always feel "mental and water = whiny" :o 2.) The Cups as air !? I am falling over my associations with "empty vessels" and "glass is empty" 3.) ad to that, that the pips all are illustrated and follow after the esoteric system created by Eudes Picard around 1909. The meanings of this system are in part quite different from RWS I find, that in my 3 card daily draws I am getting "stumped" by the meanings written on the LWB cards, while, ifff I were to read the Minors in the RWS way/ style, the reading would be pretty much "right on" Sure in the morning, on a day with nice sun and no migraines , when I do my daily draw I am taken aback when confronted with the 2 of Wands meaning suffering, illness, sadness, as my card of the day. Then the position of daily challenge is taken up by 6 of Wands described as failure, insurmountable obstacles, contradictions....... In the evening after a successful and very fun drum teaching circle with 30 participants and $500.00 in my pocket, I can only say, yes, contradiction all right: In the card descriptions - not the card itself...??
Lantana Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 Late this week, sorry VG! This past weekend has left me not in the mood for Tarot, and yesterday's eclipse had me using my Cosmos Tarot. But I'm back in the regular swing of things, and I'll be using the Divina Tarot this week. Lantana - Divina Tarot
Scarlet Woodland Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 I've twigged what left me cold on the Japaridze last time as it's happening again this week. The cards are beautiful and I understand the messages they give me, but they don't seem to have a voice. Normally with a deck, my readings are like a conversation with the cards but with the Japaridze I ask a question, it shows me an image and then I interpret it. There's no real intuitive fluidity there. It's a shame as I really thought we'd had a breakthrough at the beginning of the week. I can read with it and enjoy it but it can't quite carry a full week for me.
Bodhiseed Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 My deck, the Crystal Tarot by Elisabetta Trevisan presents me with a few hurdles to overcome... The Crystal is such a gorgeous deck, but I couldn't get past the suits being switched, especially since it was so predominant in the artwork.

Sounds like it might be difficult to work with that. I have a deck where the Swords and Wands elemental associations were swapped, hadn't heard of Swords and Cups being changed before. I can't remember which deck I have where the swap was, but I seem to remember that I could just kind of re-swap it back for my own use and it worked okay. I don't have many decks with unillustrated pip cards, but I would think that would make it harder. But since the interpretations you seem to be leaning towards fit with the RWS meanings, maybe that's the way the deck will work for you.
Trogon Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 The artist for the webcomic "Niku" thought it might be fun to do a reading on how one of her characters (Dragco) feels about the main character (Niku) and their other friend (Taami) I used the Sakki-Sakki Tarot. I needed to make a spread for it, the spread I came up with uses 3 cards in a pyramid shape. Though the spread is for this particular reading, I think it would be a good one for any time we wanted to see how 1 person relates to 2 others. ........1 .....2....3 1-How Dragco sees himself in relation to the other two characters. 2-How he sees Niku 3-How he sees Taami Here is the reading; 1) How Dragco sees himself in relation to Niku & Taami - Knight of Coins; He sees himself as something of a protector. H also sees himself as "the stable one" - he is the most down-to-earth one of the 3. Knights are associated with the element of Air, so he is level-headed and logical, though he is also very in touch with what is going on around him. However, there is a feeling of the Knight being on a quest, so he seems to have his own agenda. He will not be easily distracted from that agenda. He has wisdom, though not to the level that would be seen in the King. He is also loyal and would risk his life for his friends. 2) How he sees Niku - 3 of Cups-rx; He iehter has direct knowledge of her past, or senses the pain and loss she has experienced. As such, he sees Niku as someone who is wandering and lost. Someone who is unhappy, but has much to give. Someoen who has had much torn away, ut still can see the good in others - for example, Dragco knows that Niku can already see what is good in Taami. To some extent, Dragco feels sorry for niku and what she has lost, but knows that she does not want sympathy right now. He also sees her as being directionless and naive at this point. 3) How he sees Taami - 5 of Cups-rx; Dragco seems to also see sadness and loss in Taami, but there is more firmness. He sees that Taami is working to turn the loss into strength, though there is a greater potential for anger. As such, he feels that Taami needs more protection from himself, than from any external threat. Taami might lash out at the wrong people or at the wrong time. He also sees him as being inexperienced in some ways, though he has seen more than Niku. He needs to learn to channel his aggression ito the most constructive areas and directions.
