Everyday Witch Tarot (D.Blake & E.Alba 2017 Llewellyn)

Six of Pentacles

Description; What action is going on:

A wealthy woman is giving money and food to two more unfortunate individuals. The young man on her right is a student and he seems to receive money. The old woman on her left is receiving a basket of bread, salad and sausages.

The similarity to the Six of Wands is more striking in this deck than in many others and it is a bit confusing.

Images, Symbolism, Colours:

The witch is dressed in a beautiful bright green gown which reminds me of the bountiful Mother Earth, and of the tarot Empress. Her food basket reinforces this idea. She is the Source and I think the food and money that she gives away could symbolise energy in all its forms.

Traditional meanings (J. Bunning):

- having/not having resources, support, sponsorship, offers

- having/not having knowledge, teaching, learning

- having/not having power

- dominating/submitting

- this is the middle ground of having (in Ten of Pents) and not having (in Five of Pents) where it is not always clear who has what

From the EW Book:

- It is good karma to be generous.

- Remember that accepting help and giving it is a cycle.

- Charity, good works

Notes:

- This card is so similar to the Six of Wands that I have been mixing them with each other from the beginning. I find it very confusing. Six of Wands is the victory card but in this deck it looks more like a charity card. (In the 6/Wands a wealthy lady is giving something to an old kneeling woman.)

- Additional ideas: Be attentive to detail, breakthrough

- Reinforcing cards: Lovers (also a 6) (as unconditional giving and receiving) and the Empress (as Mother Earth)

- Some sources see this card as a card of material wants and needs only, but I usually like to see it in a wider context. It can also represent e.g. energy, knowledge, learning, love, health, spirituality. The interpretation naturally depends on the reading and card position. This deck seems to take the same view because the other receiver is a student with his pile of books so he may be receiving learning and knowledge.
