I'll be using the Badger's Forest Tarot paired with the Gemstone Oracle. Thank you, VGimlet.  :)

I'm using the Children of Litha tarot, a Thoth-like (Thoth-y?  Thoth-ish?  You get it, lol)  deck.  I love the art, but shuffling is a bit challenging, card stock is thick.

And everyone is quite welcome.

We managed to tape a whole bunch of "Forged in Fire" shows from the National Geographic channel and are now watching one every evening.

As you know, we both solder and weld in the process of creating our jewellery. :)

Nicely with this theme will go my beloved and hand coloured  Ironwing Tarot

Once we signup do we just post all our thoughts on the deck for the week in this thread also?

I'm excited re: the Badgers Forest tarot as it's a recently acquired deck for me!

And I'd like to sign up for the Slow Holler deck if I may!

Welcome, bookshop!  X/ This thread gives us a chance to use a deck (or decks) that might get overlooked as we accumulate more. ;D You can post how you like your deck or whatever you feel like about it. This is a very easygoing group!

Welcome bookshop!    Yep, you can put them here, or wherever you wish, LOL.  We are also the no rules thread, although we don't really have  such strict rules on TT&M, except the usual one of "be kind to one another, LOL.

The Cosmic Tarot is one of the few decks in my collection that has its own box. This box is a perfect example of my motto: if it's worth doing, it's worth taking a whack at it. ;D

Dang Squeeze, I'm impressed!

(Blushing)... Thank you, Bodhiseed.  It was an unfinished box I had on hand, and I made many mistakes. But, every time I get it down, I think I should make more (and take a whack at tole painting ;D). I know my decks would love it!

OMG, now I'm blushing. I see the spell correct on my phone didn't want me to use 'Squee.'  ;D

Oh no!!! I'm used to nicknames and thought that was a good one. (Blushing again.) Frankly, I've been wanting to change my name ever since the Kavanaugh hearings, but I keep forgetting. :P

Madame Squee[/member] that is such a cool, cool box!

Okay, I am checking in from the land of the Slow Holler!

To get a little more intimately acquainted with this deck, I've been doing this writing exercise with this deck for the past week where I write a poem every day based on the card I draw.

On the one hand, this has been a ridiculously freeing and enjoyable creative project, an opportunity to free-form dump all the detritus of my brain somewhere.

On the other, it's making me aware that there are probably two main issues I'm having with this deck that have kept me from cottoning onto it until now.

The first is that I feel like some of the imagery is just a bit flat, without a lot of depth, while some of the imagery is by contrast almost deliberately obscure. The most obscure card I've dealt with so far is the 3 of Stones, which is just... completely inexplicable to me. It's got the three stones at the top of a vaguely newsprint-ish background, over which is what looks like an ipad, covered by a red leather-bound book which is reversed so the back cover faces up. On the back cover is a diagram of a boat, with obscured labels for the boat's anatomy — the lines and labels are there, but they're blacked out. It's all just... I got nothing, lol.  The imagery here just feels totally random to me. And this is the sense I get from some of the images in this deck the longer I sit with them. After the beauty rubs off I'm just somewhat flummoxed.

The second thing is that this deck is honestly really depressive. I don't know if that's intentional — it was a deck that was meant to be a celebration of queer Southern identity, and while that necessarily comes with a strain of anxiety, I think I feel somewhat more depressed by the bleak overtones of this deck than I expected to. I normally really love Southern Gothic, it's a huge aesthetic draw for me; but the tone of this deck seems to imbue so much of the dying, decaying South and not the vibrant, fighting South, and it makes me a little sad.

But hey, at least I like my poems, haha. Maybe I'll make a journal here so I have somewhere to put them?

bookshop[/member] - you should start a thread on this deck in Study Groups and use your poems. Do you have the Delta Enduring Tarot by any chance?

Posted

oh! that's a nice thought Bodhiseed[/member]! idk if i'm quite comfy enough yet to lead a study group but it would be lovely to see something on this deck.

i decided to make a tarot journal thread for my poems — that way i can keep them up when this week is over and i switch to whatever deck comes next! I really like the idea of focusing on a different deck per week.

I know a lot of people use the Delta Enduring tarot and the Slow Holler tarot decks together, but even if i were able to find the former anywhere, haha, i feel like it's almost a bit too light for me. I think my ideal Southern Gothic deck would combine more of the cultural themes and flavor of the Delta Enduring tarot with the aesthetic and tone of the Slow Holler. Clearly i just need to make my own, haha. ;)

Hey bookshop! X/ Thank you very much for your review of the Slow Holler. I looked through my deck after it arrived and put it away. Lately, I've been feeling like getting it out again for another look. Having your insight will help for sure.

Nice review bookshop!

I love that box Madame Squee, it's really gorgeous.

Tarot of Litha is a yes for me.  Both really pretty and usable, which is a plus both ways.    :)
