GreatDane Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 For me, it's all Majors, Tarot For Cats. Love just gazing at the HUGE cards, LOVE the artwork!
Saturn Celeste Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Once in awhile we'll get out the big Sola Busca deck we have. The cards are huge and it's a very collectable deck. I have a smaller Sola Busca I can use if I actually want to do something with the deck.
GreatDane Posted February 25, 2019 Author Posted February 25, 2019 I can SO see that one as Keep-To-Look at deck, Saturn Celeste! The Tarot for Cats is the only deck not a reader for me (too large and no minors), but SO just love that cat art!
Guest Night Shade Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Until recently, this was pretty much every deck I owned! :)) But now I read with most of them - the ones i don't read with are just the ones I'm not really connecting with right now.
Jewel Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 The majority of my collection fell into this category until the last 2 1/2 years when I started doing my "deck of the month project" where I am finally starting to work with each deck slowly (one per month), and the more I do this the more reading decks I now use. I would say probably Le Tarot Ambre would be that deck for me. Absolutely gorgeous, but since I do not enjoy reading unillustrated pips I will most likely never use it.
fire cat pickles Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 I have to confess that although I am a reader, I am also a collector. I'd say about 90% of my decks are not for reading. <ducks behind my collection before I get hit with flying objects>

Let me know if you might be interested! ^-^
GreatDane Posted February 26, 2019 Author Posted February 26, 2019 Then this is a thread for you to revel in, FireCatPickles! While I'm not a collector, I still have a deck I don't read with just for the pix! X/ And for collectors, I am sure there are decks among those collectors you just like looking at :)
Thoughtful Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 l have mentioned this elsewhere The Visconti Modrone. When it arrives it will be my 'only look at tarot'. l would hesitate to shuffle this beauty and work with it. It will be my indulgent one and only collectors piece. Besides l don't think l could possibly read with it anyway ;D l just fell in love with all the gold, the medieval imagery, and the history attached to this particular deck.

I have a small collection right now, but the thought of using some of them makes me nervous because I don't want anything to happen to them, such as a bent corner or wearing with use. Some are so beautiful and true works of art--I'd rather look at them than use them. I've been tempted to buy a duplicate deck just so I could use one and keep one pristine...but I haven't done that...yet. :shhh:

One the one hand, it's a little expensive, on the other hand, it does give me a little peace of mind. I guess it depends on whether you're willing to and can afford to spend the money. (if there's any question about that, then don't do it!)
queenofwans Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I have three decks like this: Smith Waite: I keep it purely for reference purposes to see the original inspiration for RWS-inspired decks Black Cats Tarot: I almost never read with this, but I do love looking at the unique depictions of each card Fairytale Tarot: I should use this one more, but I have it first and foremost because I love fairytales and I love reading the fairytales associated with each card
bookshop Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I always let my querants pick the deck they want me to read for them with, so I often read with decks I probably wouldn't otherwise choose on my own. The Ophidia Rosa is the big one here. It's really difficult to read from because it's all imagery without meaning. (But good for testing my memory of card meanings!) The Cosmos Tarot and Oracle is another one — the deck is truly so beautiful!, but it eschews all the traditional meanings and i don't always find the cards intuitive, so mainly so far i have just enjoyed all the pretty imagery and steered clear of it as a reading tool. I also can't see any of my querants being super eager to read from my new Burdel TdM so it might wind up on this list. Oh, well.
