Everyday Witch Tarot (D.Blake & E.Alba 2017 Llewellyn)

Queen of Swords

"Controller"

Description:

A friendly and calm lady is looking straight at us. She holds a large feather in her hand as a pen and she has three big rolls of paper next to her on the table. They may be old scripts or something she has written herself or read.

She wears a yellow silk or velvet cape lined with ermine fur. You can see white fluffy clouds from the large window behind her so her throne is high up in a tower.

Images, symbolism, colours:

She is holding a large grey feather in her hand. It could be from a bird of prey (for fierce defence) or possibly a crane feather (for longevity and old age).

The yellow of her cape is the colour of Air

From the Book (Everyday Witch Tarot, Llewellyn 2017):

-calm and cool, fierce protector of things/people she loves

-wise elder who has been around long enough to see things clearly

-powerful ally or enemy

Associations (idea from a book by Mary Greer)

Plant: lilies

Animal: crane

Landscape: forest

Body of Water: lake

Traditional meanings (Mary K. Greer):

-intellectual thinker, wise elder

-ice queen, widow, Femme fatale, female enemy

-sorrow, poverty

This card encourages:

-analyse before acting

-be honest and fair

-be independent

Warns against:

-dominating, unyielding, sharp-tongued criticism

Notes:

She looks a bit softer and milder than most Sword Queens I’ve seen.
