I'll be using the Seattle Tarot this week.  It's a black and white (well, I got the sepia version) photographic deck, which is not my favorite, but I like to buy from local artists and have local topics (one of my sub-collections) although I'm never sure how that's going to go.

I'll bite! I think I'll do the Dark Mansion tarot, since my copy of it just arrived yesterday! :)

I think I'll be using my Madam Clara Sees All deck. I recently got the 2nd edition, and the cardstock is so much nicer than the 1st edition... and the backs are so much prettier too  :P

Thanks VG

I'm going to focus on the Oracle of the Radiant Sun this week.

Thank you for the thread, VG. X/

My goal this weekend is to produce a 12-house layout cloth for the Oracle of the Radiant Sun. This morning, it's still percolating in my head.

You are so creative Squee! I really like the Oracle of the Radiant Sun.

I'm in this week with the Stone Tarot paired with the Buddhist Quote Cards.

I'll be curious to hear what you think of it, particularly since AV's brand of shamanism seems to be based on the Peruvian path.

I will let you know ♥

His "medicine Wheel card shows the Jaguar, Hummingbird, the Serpent and the Eagle.

but there are other circles as well:

The Circle - with 8 hand prints and and

Completion - with a multicoloured Orobora.

the backs also have a beautiful circle in the center.

There are also quite a few rather theatrical looking faces....?

Very nice thick card stock, but not good to shuffle.

About good old Alberto there are 2 to 3 versions: his the absolute truth as to what and where and with whom he was and or was NOT when / while he claimed to have  received "teachings" from and iffff these people reallllly existed.....

I had several "students" of his 4 winds institute here. Each spend upwards of

$10 000 and one $ 40 000 there and never ever learned to journey and or who her Spirit Animals/ or other Guides were......

I made a reading cloth for the Oracle of the Radiant Sun, because I know very little about astrology. and my memory is full.

Here's a picture of the prototype -- full of happy accidents! (Thank you, Bob Ross. You gave me courage.) I made it out of an old t-shirt and Flair pens. (It won't wash, but it doesn't need to.)

The cards shown are random, drawn from the deck in a chunk for no purpose other than taking the photo. However, as I stood back to admire them on the cloth, the cards suddenly became much more interesting. I felt compelled to try interpreting them in light of their positions on the new wheel.

I just knew a reading cloth would get me going!  :dancecat:

This week I started doing a daily draw, and I am working with the Tarot of the Animal Lords. Unfortunately, I haven't been getting as much study done with them as I'd hoped to. I picked up the book Animal-Speak by Ted Andrews through interlibrary loan, as someone recommended it for working with this deck, but so far most of the animals on the cards I've drawn are not represented in that book. Internet to the rescue! But really, I need to move the time of my draws. I've been doing 2 card draws at night, requesting a message for the next day, only to find I'm too tired to really work at it. I also still have several previous readings to finish up yet. I'm still hopeful I'll get the hang of it all eventually. :))

Ooh, that looks great Madame Squee! Gee, I may end up with these cards yet...

<3 We both wish we'd seen this deck before my husband picked up the Deviant Moon. He really likes the look of this one and would have preferred it. Had he got it, I probably would be making off with the deck now and again, which isn't really a worry with the Deviant Moon. >:D

Welcome Moonglow!

Seattle Tarot - I'm liking it so far, but then, I recognize most of the photos so it's kind of obligatory, LOL.

Madame Squee[/member] your spread cloth looks amazing! i'm not very good at astrology at all, so i wonder if you could please tell me: what are the alternate signs in pink on your spread?

moonglow[/member] for me, the Deviant Moon and the Wild Unknown are the two hugely popular decks whose popularity I've never really understood, so I'm always happy when somebody else is unmoved by either of them, hahaha.

If you have any specific cards you'd like to see from the Dark Mansion deck, let me know! I went to take a few pictures of the packaging for you and then wound up taking a few pictures of some of my favorite cards from the deck so far, and it turned into a whole thing. Anyway, I'm a sucker for the gold filigree on this box, haha:

All in all it feels like a very fun, vibrant deck, quirky and not necessarily as dark as the title might convey. I am a bit disappointed that it seems like there isn't actually a dark mansion at all! Perhaps we're meant to assume that most of these scenes are taking place inside a mansion we can't see, haha.

Wow, I had no idea about Villoldo. It's sad that the spiritual path has become more about money and recognition than actually helping people. I had a friend who studied with the author of "The Reluctant Shaman" for at least a decade. She spent a huge amount of money but finally left. It seemed she always had just one more class she needed to take before she was 'authorized' to practice shamanism.

Squee, you are such a treasure in so many ways. Thank you for being on this forum.

moonglow, welcome! I've been doing daily draws for years and years, it took me six months to figure out what worked for me. Which mostly seems to be not thinking too hard about it...

bookshop, love that deck, what a kick. thanks for sharing the images.

X/ bookshop[/member] and moonglow[/member] -- thank you for your very kind comments. <3 <3

The cloth really is helping me understand how these cards work in the context of astrology. The pink symbols are the 12 signs of the zodiac, beginning with Aries in the 1st house. The darker symbols next to them are the 7 original planets.

I am sure that a person could skip the astrology and read with the cards intuitively based on the images alone or in conjunction with the keywords. That's what I did when I had the original kit several years ago.

Your encouragement means so much!

I'm always fighting a tendency to drift away from my projects. That's basically why I make cloths, bags, boxes, etc. I think they keep me grounded.

AJ, that means so much to me. In my eyes, you are the one! Over the years, I have continually admired your ability to study and write about your tarot experience. Your insight is deep and thoughtful, and I've learned so much from you. Thank you, AJ, I appreciate being here with you!

This one is in my basket to buy right now - let me know how it is!

I have to agree with everyone Madame Squee - very cool spread cloth!

I like that Dark Mansion Tarot a lot - it looks fun and not so dark.

I am still enjoying the Seattle Tarot, even though it's a lot of things I don't usually like in a deck - black and white, and photography.  It kind of has the Seattle vibe to it, a bit laid back, which I like.

Posted

bookshop[/member] Thanks for the pictures! It really looks great. I also like the look of the black edges they did. I may still have to get it for my husband sometime, though he's probably got enough decks for now.

As for my deck of the week, I think I'm going to switch to a single card draw, and then likely put it back in order and set it aside for a while - except maybe to compare cards when I do a spread with my RWS. I am unfortunately/fortunately coming to the conclusion that I'll probably be someone who works solely with one tarot deck. Jumping from one deck to another isn't working for me. The RWS is so engrained in my mind already, that I feel quite blocked in trying to "read" cards that aren't, essentially, identical.

The one that really has really cemented the above feeling is the 4 of Chalices I drew last night, with a terrified-looking Hippopotamus stuck up a tree. It would be fine to ponder for a while. I mean, how the heck did he get up there in the first place, and why? But then I have to somehow jam "4 of Cups" in there with it and it's just not clicking for me, as much as I like the art style. I might still consider "oracle" type decks, as they don't have that constraint, and I've been intrigued by people who can use multiple decks in a reading. But it's still early days. Who knows how things will play out? :rainbow:

Ahahaha moonglow[/member] it could be that this is just a strange deck! I feel like most of the decks out there, even the ones that are drawing on Thoth or TdM traditions, have meanings that are similar enough to the RWS that you can work with them fairly easily.  This is..... weird.

This almost seems more like a 4 of Swords card to me because he's arguably withdrawing from the world. I have no idea how the 4 of Cups would come into play here. Maybe there's an element of clinging to lost things, unwilling to move on, because he's clinging to the tree, unwilling to come down?
