sandrang123 Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 So here is my site: https://www.etsy.com/shop/YourEverydayWitch I opened it late last year but didn't start stocking things until January. In February things starting finally being seen a bit. Questions: 1) Does anyone else find Etsy ridiculous for the fact they get 10 percent of each sale, when you take into account all their fees? 2) Does anyone else find the feedback process also strange? It seems like there's a window, but the window opens later than you'd expect and then is often out of people's minds? 3) Stupid question, on my end: Does anyone know if you can put up a vacation alert? Like, "I'll be away from the 15-25th"? Or something like that? 4) For those on Etsy, long-term: Have you liked it? What are your positives and negatives? Thanks in advance for any thoughts or feedback.
joy Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 The link is not fully correct, you should remove the part with/after ?ref 1. Honestly I do not think that 10% is a lot.... It costs a lot to keep online sites safe from attacks and hacks and servers up-to-date. 2. Can not comment but I think I read this before and some ppl suggested you 'nudge' the clients. 3. As far as I remember yes you can 'close' the shop but you could also change the banner and I guess add something on the intro? 4. I used it for craft and it did not work for me. Competition is high but I guess it is just one of various avenues one as self-employed has to try/use.
sandrang123 Posted March 5, 2019 Author Posted March 5, 2019 Oops. Will remove. Thanks, Joy! Will try again...
sandrang123 Posted March 5, 2019 Author Posted March 5, 2019 https://www.etsy.com/shop/YourEverydayWitch Hope that does it. :) I am so old-school.
sandrang123 Posted March 5, 2019 Author Posted March 5, 2019 I agree with all your points, Joy. It's hard to be "seen," particularly if you're new to the site, because there is probably a logarithm involved--more views, more sales, etc. get higher status in searches. I've been tracking what people seem most interested in, and am trying to refine from there, mostly to bring in new traffic for readings. So OOP decks seem pretty popular. For whatever bizarre-ass reason "Selenite" gets huge hits (like why????), and people do seem to actively search for crystals, which is great, because I LOVE crystals. sandrang123 Posted March 5, 2019 Author Posted March 5, 2019 And the 10 percent: You do raise a good point. I hadn't thought of that.

But Etsy has good forums/communities that can help I think. And it might be a good idea to just participate there in order to promote yourself. The whole marketing side with all the social media has become so much work.... :-\ And algorithms are only known by the owners of such sites... Do you have an Instagram account? If not, that might help also to send traffic to your Etsy site.
Little Fang Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Etsy is a tricky one. Look up Etsy SEO to make sure your listings are being seen as well! <3
Miho Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 Etsy is a tricky one. Look up Etsy SEO to make sure your listings are being seen as well! <3 Seconded. #1 Consider letting other people review your products. Maybe you can give a couple of freebies and the link backs will also help raise your page up in SEO in organic searches through regular search engines. Also the feedback would obviously be helpful for you curating the shop, and it's always an opportunity to network and learn from others in that field. #2 You can also open a YT channel where you discuss your own products and benefits. Make sure it links back to products on your page and also link other (the more well-known, the better) webpages relating to their use that will help people make better use of them. #3 If you have the option to host your etsy page through a domain, a "top-level" url will also raise your SEO ranking with search engines. Because you're one in a million Etsy stores, your url will not rank very high. Domains are very cheap. I recommend Namecheap. Warning: Do not search to see if the domain is available through the registra.r.. type into your url bar and search it, because some registrars will register a domain while you've searched it and make you pay more (it's a bad business practice, but unfortunately common). I wouldn't pay for ads just yet. I would get your organic search results up, and then worry about paid when you've figured out who your audience actually is. Then you could pay for an ad that targets those demographics/search patterns specifically if you see a benefit.
Czenzi Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 So here is my site: https://www.etsy.com/shop/YourEverydayWitch 2) Does anyone else find the feedback process also strange? Like, "I'll be away from the 15-25th"? Or something like that? Yes, I think the reviews are strange, but I think it’s to account for shipping. Of course, we don’t do shipping for readings . . . . I’m a beginner to Etsy but I know for a fact that you can put up a vacation alert with a message. It’s in Settings --> Shop Settings. It’s not a stupid question. It took me forever to find it the first time I looked. I’ll take a look at your shop later. :)
sandrang123 Posted March 19, 2019 Author Posted March 19, 2019 Czenzi[/member] and Miho[/member]: Thank you both very much for your excellent feedback and advice. I like the idea of giveaways, though I'm not sure how you can upload feedback on something (from the receiver's end) unless Etsy recognizes the purchase, in the first place. I have received feedback on crystals already. (Yay!) I am awaiting feedback on a reading I did via Etsy, and it should be forthcoming (I'm hoping!). I like the idea of a video. I'm scheduled to give a reading for a new sitter while here in PA (the mother of someone who goes to me when I'm home). I wonder if it would be okay to ask if I tape part of the reading? Eh, scratch that, as she'll probably be a little nervous given that it's her first sitting with me. So maybe I can drum up a more regular sitter and ask them. We'll see if remaining time home allows for that. Another idea would be a video about a topic of tarot. I'd have to think of something short enough. When I do video work for our Village (for farmers' market or citizen involvement), we always try and keep the videos short and to the point. I just want to express how much I appreciate everyone here on this forum, and how you've all expanded my comfort zone, in the best ways. This is the first year I'm on Etsy, in large part because of this forum. It's the first time I'm being more public with, and open to, channeling, despite all my years of regular readings (tarot). It's also fueled my longtime desire to work more with crystals, in terms of having a "shop" for them, too. It's also the first time I'm renting a booth at our Pagan Festival in the Fall, for readings and to sell crystals, to hell with what the Village Board (where I sit on various committees) might think of my "weird side." ;) XOXO, Sandy

Such great news!! I know you'll do amazingly well at the festival. ((
sandrang123 Posted March 19, 2019 Author Posted March 19, 2019 Thank you, Saturn! You've been such a big help to me, too, so Hugs to you. Guest libra Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 For feedback - if you do your readings as instant pdf download (explaining clearly your turnaround time everywhere that you can) and have the instant download be like... An image with your terms, disclaimers, expected turnaround time, etc, you should be able to get feedback right away I think. Because the 2-3 week gap is entirely based on shipping - for me, it's 10 business days after my expected delivery, so if I have 5-7 days, then reviews open after 3 weeks. I still had a decent number remember to review, but at the end of my reading PDF, I did note that the review window would take a while, so if they really wanted to leave a review, setting up a reminder right away would be a good idea!
Miho Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 You could ask for link-backs to your store from bloggers, etc. It helps with SEO the more you have linking back to your main digs. If it's something that you're truly passionate about doing, then it might even be fun to collaborate with others for their feedback. It would be up to you of course. Honestly, I watch so much more YT than I do real TV these days. I've gotten all sorts of products that I've seen used there and recommended by people. So much talent on there.
