What if .... Deck Creation barn/brain storming for non-deck creators ?

Dear people of the tarot-tea-tent,

What if ...

What if you wanted to start making your own deck, just fer fun, cause you participated in various collaborative decks we won't say where and had fun ?  And what if you wanted to go about doing this in the company of other like-minded sort-of-not-really-artists-or-deck-creators-but-just-tarot-people on this forum, well then what ?

I've done a World Card, an Ace of Swords, a two and three of cups, and some others I'll have to dig up on AT. I thought it would be fun to start working on one card at a time, on those I haven't already done, in sort of the same vein. Would anyone here like to, just for fun, do the same ? It would be an alternative way of meditating through the cards one by one. (I did this once with the guidance of a certain Umbrae, and it was a fascinating journey through the cards, life changing actually).

I was thinking I might begin by pondering the Fool card, and coming up with some various inventions for it. And thought it might be fun to do this in concert with other people wrestling with the same.

Ideas ? Thoughts ?

Go for it. Especially if it means we will see more of you.

I've been in several collaboratives and also done my own; at some point I am going to pull up ALL the collaborative cards I did and see how many more I need to fill another deck !

I’m not artistic at all - can’t draw for toffee! But I could join in with tarot collages.

It’s a great idea and a fun way to deepen knowledge. So interesting to see what other people come up with too. :)

I think that's a fantastic idea. Right now I'm in a super busy time, and not creating much art (off the clock, anyway) but would love to participate in this sort of thing down the road a bit!

So far I've only done one Tarot card of my own - an ATC size of The Sun, with Sunstreaker from Transformers on it, LOL!

I am so glad, Devon Carter, Flaxen, and Gregory that you think it is a good idea. It was really painting for the collaborative decks that got me interested in tarot in the first place, and also made such a sense of community over there in our former world ...

I took a look at some of the paintings I did for those decks, it was such an extraordinary experience, and made the experience of living feel suddenly so rich and full of colour. It also seemed that whatever I drew ended up materialising in someway. (That could be scary for the super horrible cards, unless we draw them upside down, or ... unless we find a super positive meaning for them. No ? )

I'm thinking about the Fool now. My first deck, the Crowley, had a German language companion book which explored the fool as Parzival. I have studied so much medieval literature perhaps it would be something to do with Perceval - the person who is so excited about learning and living but knows absolutely nothing, has artificially been kept in the dark. Should I start a post for brainstorming the Fool ? Should I interview a moderator ? Perhaps hang out quietly and count my toes while some momentum gathers ? What am I, a fool ?

Is there an opera deck (yet)?

It was the idea of doing an opera deck back in 2002 or so that got me interested in tarot in the first place, I joined AT then to learn about tarot to do an opera deck. But of course I am not an artist, and got more drawn into tarot as a weird thing to learn about than a thing to draw. There are a couple of sort-of opera decks, but I am sure there would be room for more. At some point also Baba - Karen Mahoney wanted to put together an opera deck with me but that didn't happen. There are so many possibilities. At the time I thought of dividing the suits up into languages - Italian repertoire (coins), French repertoire (cups), German repertoire (swords), Russian repertoire (wands). I even began a deck of 78 note cards, each  one suggesting an opera scene or several for a card. There is far too much material ! And each opera is a whole deck into itself ! Someone has done a deck of the Ring Cycle (Niebelungen) using drawings by Arthur Rackham. There is also a of course the Rackham tarot just out by Lo Scarabeo, a good deal of his art was for the Ring Cycle.

Another great one would be a ballet deck. Ohhhhh that would be fantastic.

Someone has done some cards for a ballet tarot - Julie Tyler, found on "redbubble" dot com available as posters I think  - different positions, and poses. I could imagine a very beautiful deck done from paintings of old photographs, or paintings of full length ballets. Damn ! I want to do this !

I've drawn my own (Majors only) deck, but it would be fun to do another one in the company of others.
