Victorian Romantic by Baba Studios- new edition pre-order

I am tired of their pricier and pricier reissues, myself. I have two versions of the VR - three if you count the Russian one -and that's  quite enough.

This one has that gorgeous colorful metallic overlay, though!!! Like on Alice and the 3rd edition of

Tarot of Prague! And a couple of new cards...

Considering the prices of todays self published decks, i don't think $66 is unreasonable for the early bird pre order price of Baba's quality of deck, booklet and box. Especially considering the multi color metallic overlay which is soooo amazing, and must be quite pricey to reproduce. They have also offered a payment plan.

I've heard so much about this deck that a reissue with metallic overlay seems worth the earlybird cost, so I got one. I'd look for someone selling an older edition before paying full price, though. If one doesn't have the deck, it seems like a good time to snatch one up, but I'm not sure I'd get another just for the overlay if I already had one.

An older edition would most likely be quite a bit more expensive, as the other editions are OOP.

So this is a GREAT deal, i have 2 other editions and have had them all at one time or another over the past 10  or 11 years...

i expect this one will be the cream of the crop.

.... until the next one - with silver, maybe?

I will be buying the VR 3rd edition and new companion book. The MRP decks/books are the treasures of my tarot collection... over the past year I sold about 50% of the decks I had, but kept every MRP deck/book. The quality is superb, printing unexcelled and each edition brings something new to the table. Just had a quick look at the new devil and lovers cards on the MRP site. Can't wait to have them in hand and see how the metallic ink enhances this lovely deck.

Couldn't agree with you more, my friend! xoxox[move]MRP=quality!!!!![/move]

AMEN to that.

That said, though, the early bird price is not too bad. The fact is, independent tarot decks have been becoming pricier and pricier during the past couple of years. A sad trend, if you ask me.

It makes me grateful to find people like the talented Uusi bunch, who keep producing amazing decks at extremely reasonable prices.

Yeah. I MIGHT buy it, in the end. But I would so much rather they reprint some of the ones that people want so much in normal and affordable ways - like the first BBC for instance - great quality but not OTT extra-super quality with the extra price thing.

Looks like the $66 pre-order price for VR-3 is very close to the pre-order price for Ciro's new deck.  $10 difference?

I agree that the early bird price makes it very tempting.. and I haven't any of the other VR editions,  (I wanted the gold, which has now gone off the scale) so I'm going for this one.

Likewise, I do have the unembellished BG,  and then couldn't get the silver edition at the time, so I wonder if they will do a similar metallic BG edition in future?

I'm annoyed with myself for wanting it (or the silver edition) but I can't help myself, when they bring out these beauteous decks.

I was reading with interest about the Ireland through Bohemian eyes project, too.....I suppose I'm just yer typical rabid collector :)

I've also got numerous other decks on my wish list and yes, they do seem to be pricey lately, FLizzaraga.

I've been asking, er, bothering them for a while about re-releasing the BBC since I never got that deck. They told me the artist wants to create all new artwork for it. I'm kind of expecting a release like this one in a few years time. :o

Oh, and if peeps need to, there is a payment plan...The first Payment is [i believe] $35. That might help some

budgets. And also, the pre-order price is valid until November. Then i think it goes up $10. So the nice thing is, you have time to save...xox i haven't purchased it yet...i need to wait a bit myself.

Thanks, Moongypsy, for the heads up on the Baba pre-order VR-3 pricing... $66 until 11/30/17, then $76 from 12/1/17 until pre-order ends (reg price $86)

I've gone for the layaway option. This is too nice to miss. It helped that I had some pp in my account too. Really grateful they've given this option, it softens the blow!

I love this deck and have every iteration, save the Russian; I'm thrilled that they are re-issuing the deck with the cold stamping and am one of the people who wrote to them frequently over the past year to find out when they would re-issue.

I think that for the quality of their work and the card stock, etc. all their decks are well worth the price. IMO, they're artistic masterpieces.

I guess that really it's just about whether you like the deck enough to want 1 or even multiple copies of it?

I have the mini version, and that's it for me; I don't like it so very much!

I have other decks I love, and I have various versions of those.

Its not about price in the end - if you want something enough you save up for it, or go without other decks to have it. If you don't like it enough that's fine too - each person is different. And I for one just accept that some peeps LOVE IT! :)  and that it doesn't speak to me like that. So I won't be getting another copy off this one, but I honestly hope that everyone who does loves it and is not a jot disappointed by any of it.

I like it very much. But I still wish that MRP would reissue the decks that they ALREADY REISSUED in "normal" formats, so that more people could enjoy them. Sure, fancy versions will cost more. But don't lock out all he people who can't afford them. And do NOT - that person ! you know who you are if you're here ! - start posting about how it's only a cup of of coffee in Starbucks a day for x months. A lot of people can't afford that either - to save all those pennies would take them YEARS. I COULD just afford it, but if I were to go the forgo the fancy coffee route to so so - I go out to coffee maybe twice a month.... that line is just silly.

No-one is suggesting they should reissue limited editions cheaply - LE is LE and should stay that way, in fairness to those who bought them expecting them to stay LE. But this deck - and the BBC and others - were put out in "mass market" format - and I cannot see why reissues of those can' happen, as well as fancier and fancier ones.

THANK YOU. *applause*

I recently broke down and (finally) bought their black and white Mythical Creatures Tarot --which, as LE goes, is actually not too badly priced, considering the magnificent package that you get. But, again, I would have liked to have a deck-only option, maybe in a thinner, lighter cardstock.

Again, of course, this deck started its life as a LE, so there's room for debate. But, like gregs said, all the older MRP classics had regular editions and limited editions side by side.

P.S. I, too, remember the infamous Starbucks comment.

Yes, it's a good price for this quality of deck and we also have a time-limited special offer on the tarot bags, which, as they are handmade by our wonderful Romana and in antique and vintage kimono silks are, excuse my enthusiasm, a steal!

Please understand that we decided many years ago not to do mass-market decks and we won't be doing them again - there were far too many compromises required to actually make any profit whatsoever on mass market runs. We felt if we began making artistic/design compromises it would be the beginning of a slippery slope downwards in terms of creativity and quality. So - we parted company with our distributors in London and Los Angeles (with many regrets, as they were lovely) and embarked on a different way of doing things.

We talked to Lo Scarabeo at the time (over a great meal where much wine flowed) and decided that while a mass market model works for them, it would not work for us - we just have a whole different approach, though we respect LS. So now we do short runs from time to time and put work into making each one different in a worthwhile way - something that a mass-market publisher would not do |(their whole business model is based on doing reprints with no extra work - valid, but not, I think, an artist's preferred way of doing things).

We actually want to produce something lasting, and that directs how we do things. We're a studio first and foremost.

Hmm, I may repost this also on our Facebook pages, as it's a good conversation to be having.

Thanks MoonGypsy. We've decided, as a studio, to take part in a few forums again to see how it goes. As we're also very focused on our own Facebook/Instagram etc, we may not post all that often (and it will sometimes not be me but others from the studio). But we'll do our best! :)

We would love it to happen, but we are very tied up in the current, huge project - Ireland Through Bohemian Eyes (a five year project) - and so it's hard to predict if there will be time for a whole new design of Baroque Bohemian Cats. Alex would like to completely redo it, and has ideas, but that means at least a year of his time, and where to find it?

Our cats are keen to see it happen though!

Karen, i would love to see the BBCats done with the same method you have used for the 3rd edition Prague and Alice and now the up and coming 3rd Edition Victorian Romantic! That metallic enhancement is unlike

anything i have ever seen. It is unique to Baba Studios/MRP.  i can't even imagine how gorgeous the VR is going to be with it!!
