VGimlet Posted August 25, 2017 Author Posted August 25, 2017 I'm in for my final week with the Hermetic tarot. I've enjoyed working with it, and hopefully it will someday go into the rotation again. Starting in September I'm going to work with the 4 decks I've received the last couple of months (pre-orders all ) which will be a nice change.
GreenFaerie Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 Hi VG - Thank you for the new thread! :) I am in again with the Victorian Fairy Tarot. RL is madness, and I just haven't had time to sit down with my cards. Hoping for some space to do so this weekend.
Page of Ghosts Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 Ostara and Joie de Vivre for me! I seriously cried when I looked through my new Ostara and came to the 2 of Cups, which may also have had something to do with the Final Fantasy IX ost in the background, it always makes me very emotional :-[ I felt like it was made for me sort of? And I think it can vibe well with my Joie, I've mostly been throwing random stuff together for these threads ;D Page of Ghosts - Ostara Tarot and Joie de Vivre
VGimlet Posted August 25, 2017 Author Posted August 25, 2017 RL is madness, and I just haven't had time to sit down with my cards. I'm with you there GreenFaerie....every time I think it's going to get a little calmer, "boom goes the dynamite", haha.
Mi-Shell Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 I will do a second week with my new to me Crystal Tarot. ThanXXX VG!
Bodhiseed Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 I'm in with the Deirdre of Sorrow Tarot and the Victorian Flower Oracle - thank you VGimlet!
Trogon Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Thank you again for hosting us VG! (I think between when we were still doing the DotW on AT and now here, this may be the longest run I've had with it.) I've gotten to use my Sakki-Sakki Tarot for several readings now and feel that it's time to move to another deck. I have a few that are asking to be put in the game. So, using my pendulum again to help with the choice; It is the Steampunk Tarot by Barbara Moore and Aly Fell. I'd used my other Steampunk Tarot a while back (may have been back on AT), so it's this one's turn. And, since I find myself still using the A'HA Oracle, may as well keep that one on the list. Trogon - Steampunk Tarot (Moore & Fell) and A'HA Oracle
jema Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Used that random number thing and got Shining Tribe (which I love) and then for a back-up one I don't know so well the Xultun deck. Looks like a fun week!
Bookworm Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Again with the Rosetta Papyrus for me. I used it last week in my ISG exchange, and it went pretty well. Thanks for the thread, VG.
Bodhiseed Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Wow, week 7 at our new home. :o Time surely does fly.:)
jema Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 indeed and weirdly enough... i don't even miss the purple place. I have the rosetta but not the papyrus version. I did solemnly swear to not buy any new decks until 2018 though.
Bookworm Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 I don't think you need the Papyrus, jema, not if you have the original, and especially not if you've solemnly sworn. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 I loved working with my Victorian Fairy Tarot, never know what will ring our chimes do we? Native American LoS this week thank you VG
CharlotteK Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 Sorry I've been gone so long. Things and places getting in the way. I've really missed this thread though. I'm in with Barbara Moore's Steampunk this week. I dunno why, there's something in the air maybe? Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
GreenFaerie Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 RL is madness, and I just haven't had time to sit down with my cards. I'm with you there GreenFaerie....every time I think it's going to get a little calmer, "boom goes the dynamite", haha. Yes, that has been my life the last few weeks, lol. :D I understand completely!
GreenFaerie Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 I loved working with my Victorian Fairy Tarot, never know what will ring our chimes do we? Native American LoS this week thank you VG I'm so glad you loved the VFT, AJ-ish. It always makes me so happy when someone finds the deck and loves it; I feel like it is underappreciated, and it's so lovely and insightful. :)
Bodhiseed Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 This week I'll be using the Deirdre of the Sorrows Tarot, a self-published set created by Deirdre O'Donoghue and illustrated by Wayne McGuire. Along with it, I'll be drawing from the Victorian Flower Oracle, created by Alex Ukolov, Karen Mahony and Sheila Hamilton; it was published by Magic Realist Press. Today's draws are the King of Coins and Daisy: Obviously, you would give your life for your children, or give them the last biscuit on the plate. But to me, the trick in life is to take that sense of generosity between kin, make it apply to the extended family and to your neighbour, your village and beyond. ~ Tom Stoppard I find it interesting that the people who don't spend a whole lot of money on themselves (other than occasional indulgences) often have no problem with generosity. Not that they are foolish enough to indiscriminately give away their wealth, but like this king, they tend to be benevolent and kind. He seems to be dropping gold coins from his pocket, while holding on to a larger one. Whoever shares his picnic will be going home with a full belly and heavier pockets. Daisy represents hearth, home and family. Seeing these two cards remind me how often my time and energy is spent on other people, leaving little for my loved ones. Even when I am home, I can be unavailable if I am staring at my phone, the computer or the television. Today I will attempt to practice generosity backward - beginning with my family and working outward. The muted colors of these decks remind me that autumn isn't far away!
Trogon Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 Sorry I've been gone so long. Things and places getting in the way. I've really missed this thread though. I'm in with Barbara Moore's Steampunk this week. I dunno why, there's something in the air maybe? You might be right about something in the air. I picked Moore's Steampunk Tarot for this week also! ;D
Trogon Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Because I've been training a new dispatcher, I haven't really been able to do my daily reading about my eating issues for a couple of weeks. Things were beginning to be difficult again. However, I am now back to being by myself and I was able to do my reading! As previously mentioned, I'm using Moore & Fell's Steampunk Tarot this week. One thing I really like about it is the very strong RWS influence in the images. If you're familiar with the RWS, you can immediately read with the Steampunk Tarot. That being said, Moore and Fell have definitely added their own flair to this deck. For one thing, 3 of the Knights are women - only the Knight of Pentacles is a man - and this gives a slightly different outlook on these cards. But even though the RWS influence is so strong, so is the steampunk feel. It's as if there was a smell of coal, steam and ozone along with the whir of the machinery and the crackle of energy in most of the images. I can't say for certain just how much influence the steampunk theme will have on interpreting the cards in the long-run, but I did feel it a bit in tonight's reading. Here are my notes (and see attached image); ~~~~~ 1) Issue - Knight of Cups; Emotions. Emotional eating is a problem for me. I often eat more when feeling "down" - which I have always had an issue with doing. here that Knight stands on a path leading to a lake. She appears somewhat stern, and is blocking the path - though not actively. My first thought/impression on seeing her was "emo". Depression & frustration are deep-seated issues for me on this topic. My eating habits are driven by emotion. 2) Blockage - 10 of Swords-rx; Continuing to struggle with the same issues. It often feels as though the same things come up in these readings - that I'm still struggling ... because I always am. I have been keeping away from sugar for some months, but I have to continue to work at this. It is like any addiction and I must continue the work. If I falter (as I have for a few days) my health will suffer and that sunset may come too soon. 3) To Contemplate - 7 of Pentacles; I have gotten a good start on eating better and getting healthier. Now comes the tending, the continuation and improving of the good habits that I have begun. If I want to reap the benefits of better health, I can not ignore the garden. This also may indicate a need to actually start keeping more of a record and actually planning what I eat, instead of just "winging it". ~~~~~ The Knight of Cups definitely had a different feel in this deck. Particularly with the initial thought of her being "emo" (that was the actual word that popped into my head). Though there is a determination in her face that I found interesting ... as though the depression I sensed was fairly well hidden from those who don't know her very well. Then there's the idea of her blocking the path to the lake - as if you will have to learn to deal with her before you can get to those waters. The other card I felt was altered by the theme of the deck was the 7 of Pentacles. In the RWS, the person tending the garden is simply standing there, leaning on the rake and passively watching. However, in this card, we have a man who is watching, yes, but he is also taking notes, analyzing the growth and fruiting of what he has planted. There is a more active watching, rather than just waiting. As for the 10 of Swords ... I felt there was an influence of the gloom in the air which brought it back to the Knight of Cups. And, without the finality of the upright card, it is a good reminder, along with that 7 of Pentacles, that this will be a long-term "project". All in all, a great deck and one I am going to really enjoy using this week.
Scarlet Woodland Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 My brain's all a scatter this week and keep forgetting what I have and haven't done ::). I've been working with the Lunatic Tarot and the Raven's Prophecy Tarot this week.
Page of Ghosts Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 The more I work with Joie de Vivre I see that it's the kind of deck I could recommend to someone who thinks tarot is scary or would like a gentle deck a la the ones DV made but isn't a fan of hers. The focus of the deck is JOY and happiness after all, so all of the upright meanings have some more or less positive aspect or spin on it. This could be obnoxious for some people but I think it works both in this deck and in my collection, since I already own more than 1 deck that is all about the doom and gloom in the appropriate cards ;D
Mi-Shell Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I am finding out, that whatever spread I use, the Death card is coming up as the "outcome/ advice/ card of the day" and so on..... On top of that there was DEATH in the week: My Shaman teacher Ed McGaa, an Oglala Lakota Medicine man died... :( Maybe this deck is not the right tool for me right now.....?
CharlotteK Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I asked the Steampunk for an encouraging message from the Universe as it has been a very tough week so car. The Ten of Cups shows a couple relaxing in a garden, under a bower of cups. It's a reminder that I have people here at home who are my light and my support and that will see me through. Bodhiseed Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 On top of that there was DEATH in the week: My Shaman teacher Ed McGaa, an Oglala Lakota Medicine man died... :( I am so sorry to hear this news. His books made a big impression on me during a period when I needed some positive direction. (((Mi-shell)))
