Fun birthday spreads

It's my birthday in about a week so I wondered if any of you have any fun spreads I could try out? My Wild Unknown has a suggestion for a year ahead-spread with 13 cards so that's a candidate, but maybe you know of anything else  :)

I am now looking for the same thing PoG! Did you end up using the year ahead 13-card spread? I'm searching around, have found one I'm considering using.

Yeah I was too lazy to look through all the google result so I just used my new year card in the middle, Death, and did 12 cards around it for the 12 months of the next year, starting with September and ending with August. Snuck a peek at the bottom card, something I do for large readings only (including it in my daily 3 card spread was a bit tedious) and threw that one into the reading to. So this year might be about Death overall, but the reading is not about The Tower at the bottom of the deck.

Well, my birthday was last month, but that gave me a good idea for a birthday spread, Page of Ghosts.

1. Take note of your Year Card.

2. Shuffle, cut, and put the deck in one pile.

3. Find your Year Card in the deck. The 12 cards that come after it will represent the 12 months succeeding your birthday.

This is sorta like the Opening Of The Key spread, but you make do with one pile instead of four, and you hunt for your Year card instead of your Significator.

So I'm curious since both of you mention this...do you draw your year card at the beginning of each year? Is it something you both do every year? Do you choose it from majors only? How do you work with your year card throughout the year?

That sounds like a fun spread EmpyrianKnight, and much simpler than the Opening of the Key, which sounds a bit tedious to me. I prefer simpler spreads and I'm a bit lazy about it.

RavenOfSummer, there's different ways to work with the year card and from which date you think it goes into action. Personally I think it makes more sense for me to think of a year as birthday to birthday, but you can do it per calendar year too. Some people think the new card starts to work as soon as the new year begins, and the old one is still in action untill your birthday.

The year card is calculated from the Majors only the way I do it. It's the way Mary K Greer suggested in her Tarot For Your Self book, so I add my birthday to the year I'm calculating for, and then add the digits together untill I have a number smaller than 22. 22 would be The Fool. So say your birthday is 10th of June, it's 10 + 6 + 2017 = 2033 and then 2 + 0 + 3 + 3 = 8. That would be Justice or Strength, depending on which card you prefer as #8 ;D

So what to do with your year card? Some think it signals the theme for your upcoming year, some what you should focs to work on. Personally I try to look out for things I associate with my year card and keep it in the back of my head. If it shows up in a reading I take notice and consider it an extra important reading. In retrospect I can see if it was a theme. I didn't really work much with my year card up untill last year which was the year of The Hanged Man. It fit really well with the year!

Oh no, I was just admiring Page of Ghosts's inspired idea, and thought of putting an OOTK spin on it. It's definitely a spread I would use in the future tho.

Here is one which had been posted to A.T. a number of years ago. It was originally from a site called "Tarotmoon", now called "Tarotmoonpress" on Wordpress.com. The listing of their Tarot spreads is here; https://tarotmoonpress.wordpress.com/original-tarot-spreads/ ... each one downloads as a document.

I actually haven't used the spread yet, but always thought it seemed like a really good one.

Birthday Reading

The birthday spread is in the shape of a cake with a candle on top, and is designed to help you evaluate the year that is passing, look at where you are right now, and see what new energies, challenges, and gifts the new year is bringing you.  The card meanings are shown below.

      9
