I'm in starting Saturday with the  Shakespeare Tarot by Michael Kukarski.  I have the old one somewhere too. :P

Since it's September, it's time for change, so I'm using my new decks this month.

Not only is the season starting to change, my work is changing in very big ways.

The woman I've worked with since I was a teenager (36 years) through 3 different job changes is retiring on the 5th, and even though we don't always get along it's going to be very strange. Imagine working with your sister.  Yeah, just imagine...lol.

My other co-worker is also retiring on the same day, I've worked with her for 15 years.

We now have a new boss, our previous boss retired in January and they just hired a new one in August.  My other co-worker just started last April, started working on a big project for the library and, split her job with someone else.  So 4 new co-workers for me soon.  Luckily I like change, but this is going to be interesting.    8)

Plus we are getting a makerspace at the library, and my desk is going to be more involved in that.  Which will be fun...

My readings might be interesting this month.  Heh.

Wow, VGimlet, that is a lot of changes at work!  :o Hope you sail smoothly through them all. What is a makerspace? Thanks for the new thread.  :D

I'm in this week with the Buckland Romani Tarot paired with the Lakota Sweat Lodge Cards.

I hardly touched my decks last week so will keep trying with just 1 deck for now.

So lately every time I walk past my new shelf there is this one deck that sort of shouts at me...

Hi VG - Thank you for the new thread! Wow, that is a LOT of change happening for you at work. I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible.

Still sticking with my Victorian Fairy Tarot. I didn't have time to touch my cards last week. :'(

Another week already?

I've been having a great time with my Ostara and Joie de Vivre. I think I'd like to do one more week with Ostara since it's my birthday this week and I have planned a spread I'd like to maybe use that one for, and throw in the Wild Unknown in case I get to begin using it. The spread is from its book and I got it the same week as my Ostara but I've been really in the mood for Joie lately. Maybe the week after this can be the one I have thought about for a while, the full 70's week featuring the Aquarian the Morgan-Greer together!

What is a makerspace?

It's actually pretty cool, and can involve stuff like...3-D printers and software, Abelton music software and recording spaces, places for people to do coding, or robotics or make movies...  We aren't sure what ours is exactly going to be like, but it's going to be interesting.

I'm in :)

I'm really enjoying the Steampunk Tarot right now, and since it had been a few years since I'd used it, I'm going to go another week. And ... still using the A'HA Oracle. Thanks so much for keeping this going for us VG, it's a real pleasure for me to be working with these decks of mine.

That IS pretty cool! I'd never heard of a makerspace, either, but now I wish we had one at my work! :) You'll have to let us know what it's like.

This week I'll be using the Buckland Romani Tarot, created by Lissanne Lake and Raymond Buckland; this book and deck set was published by Galde Press. Along with it, I'll be using the Lakota Sweat Lodge Cards, created by Chief Archie Fire Lame Deer and Helene Sarkis; this deck and book set was published by Inner Traditions. Today's draws are Strength and Hanwi (Moon):

Strength.jpghanwi_0002.jpg

Facing the monster. And recognizing it. Knowing that it was not a vile few.

It wasn't "them." It was us. ~ Louise Penny, Glass Houses

Rage, greed, jealousy, grief, fear - the beast within wears many faces. It's easy for me to see this face on others, to point it out with self-righteous satisfaction and pretend it doesn't live within me. But it does (and it has large teeth and massive claws). If I pretend long enough that it isn't there, it's easy for it to escape and do irreparable harm. Everyone has a tipping point, when the iron door to the beast's cage opens. I may try to deny that these instincts are alive and well in me, but what happens when I reach that point? I have no way to calm the beast and no way to close the door. Hanwi, or "night sun," represents cycles. The companion book states that "We cannot sustain one mood, one way of perceiving, one action only, throughout our lives or even throughout our day." For better of for worse, humans are emotional beings. I must befriend the beast inside me, and learn how to ground and center myself when it roars and wants unlimited independence.

I'm working with the Thoth this week, thank you VG

I had a love/hate relationship with my LoS Native American Tarot this past week.

With the exception of one or two weird cards I absolutely love the art.

Trying to read with it though? No go.

Most cards have been renamed, and has a  new meaning.

It was ok on  my blog but still flustering to make sense of. One day I skipped the blog and put the deck away it made me so cross,  then I made myself get it back out and do some character building by using it anyway ;)

Since I've been using the Ostara Tarot the most I thought I should post some thoughts on it! I'm starting to gain some insight into the Wild Unknown as well so I hope I can type up something on it by the end of this week. I've thought the illustrations were a bit sparse but what little I have used it for has actually given me some of that coveted intuitive insight so that's something I'm very happy about as I don't consider myself the most intuitive reader yet. It's something I'd love to work on so if the WU proves to be good for this I'll be using it a lot.

Ostara is the one I've used the most since I got it. The gilding was a bit stuck together but I easily managed to get the deck separated into sections and then just wiggle the section a bit both along the short side and the long side. That managed to get in un-stuck very well and none of the gilding was lost, only a bit of glitter everywhere.

The deck is coherent as 1 deck which I'm very pleased about! The artists did a good job with the deck and I really like how they decided on 1 animal to be in every minor arcana card of a certain number except the Queens, there they all had free reign. So all the 4's have a rabbit in them, Knights a bear, the 10's either a giant whale or octopus, 7's are raccoons I think.. I think that's a nice touch.

The world in the deck is magical, set in that sweet spot between snowy winter and warm spring (Ostara is this season and it's aptly named) so it portrays both. It's a bit whimsical but doesn't shy away from violence as well, there's is a little bit of blood and bones in a few cards but it doesn't overpower the deck and make it like a dark deck suitable for when you wanna connect with your inner emo prince, as at least I sometimes wanna do ;D I think the Knight of Swords has some blood on his sword for example. The Hierophant which is my birth card is very nice in this deck, he has books!

I will say that there is 1 of the 4 artists whose artwork I like better than the rest and 1 I like less and maybe think is a bit weaker paired with the others. Who they are shall not be named though :) I still think it works great as a full, coherent deck by these artists and it has given me some lovely readings. The book is alright. I don't always see what the text is referring to in the card but it lends itself well both to traditional and non-traditional interpretations as the illustrations for the most part can be read as they are. I usually try to get an impression on my own before looking in the book as I'm by now too lazy to read the whole thing in one setting, heh. In conclusion I'm glad I decided to give this deck a chance and I hope to work some more with it.

I agree about WU. For whatever reason, reading with it feels effortless and intuitive. Sparse doesn't usually do it for me, and I tend to reach for Thothy decks, but WU has been surprisingly dependable. I was glad to see Sulis give it study group attention on AT as a favorite deck.

I did this regular 3 card reading about my day yesterday (thanks for the spread Trogon by the way, I changed the centre card to challenge instead of blockage!) and I got

(1) Situation: 10 of wands      (2) Challenge: 4 of wands        (3) Advice: XVII - The Star

And just looking at the cards I thought (1) looked heavy, oppressive, overwhelming, but if I zoomed in on the part where it's a tiny bit brighter I would see (2) which is less wands and has kind of a portal in the middle. If I went through the portal I would arrive at (3), the beautiful star. It was really cool since that doesn't usually happen so easy for me!

It's my birthday so I've been getting a lot of 10's for the last few days, apt as my year card is changing from The Hanged Man to Death. The WU Death looks like all the flesh and innards have rotted away and I'm left with the bare bones... what will I do with them?

I wanted to put down a couple of quick notes about the decks I'm using this week.

The Steampunk Tarot; This deck seems to "color outside the lines" on a frequent basis. I have now done a couple of readings where the positional meanings were somewhat pushed aside and the card needed to be interpreted somewhat differently for that position. For example, in the reading I did today on a recurring issue, the "Blockage" position was more of an "Advice" card. I have also noticed that the deck seems to be rather more blunt than some others. This is not a gentle, rose-colored glasses type of deck. In fact, it tends more towards the smack in the head type of reading.

The A'HA Oracle; I have, on a number of occasions, drawn a single card before going to bed. Asking for something to keep in mind as I prepare for the end of the day and to carry over into sleep and into the next day. I am finding that, with this as well as full readings, that the A'HA Oracle is quite patient with me. It frequently will give me the same card. There are three that seem to keep coming up for me; Dragonfly, Serpent with Eggs, and Like Moths Attracted to the Light Are We. I get other cards as well, but these 3 come up pretty often. They don't always bring the same message, but often very similar meanings do occur to me. As though the deck is gently reminding me of things.

First; Happy Birthday Page of Ghosts!!!

You are very welcome for the spread. And I like the center card as "Challenge" instead of "Blockage". I may start using that too. It still carries a similar connotation but doesn't seem quite so difficult.

I love how your reading flowed for you. An excellent reading.

Whoops I am late again this week. So much going on at the moment my cards are being neglected badly! I feel drawn to Dark Angels Tarot this week.

I'm very happy with that spread indeed ;D It helps me get better at both looking at the cards and jotting down my thoughts. With larger readings I'm prone to being sluggish with my notes so writing a little bit about 3 cards and how they connect each day is really good for me in regards to both skills and efficiency.
