fire cat pickles Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 I can't take credit for this idea. It was Helvetica/Fudugazi/Sophie from AT who first brought this idea to my attention years ago on AT. She was originally talking about RWS Majors, of course, but it works beautifully for the Minchiate, as well. I have searched and searched the archives at AT, but I couldn't find it. (If anyone can find it, please link it here for me!) She connected Majors via Roman Numeral. I can't remember if she did this for all of them, or whether it was just for a few of them. At any rate, the seed was planted. Since the goal for the other Minchiate Majors threads is to have more detailed study for each card in them, I decided to have a separate thread with a chart explaining how these cards are numerically related so that I can easily refer back to it. This way I can simply provide a link to this thread instead of continually having to explain in those threads any systematic relationship between cards we may discuss. With a little practice and memorization; and thinking in terms of Roman Numerals; it becomes second hand to group the Five Popes further into subgroups of five: Consider the ending numerals I, II, III, IIII, and V (or X) only 1st sequence (Papa uno): I. Bagatto, VI. Temperanza, XI. Tiempo, XVI. Speranza, XXI. Acqua, XXXVI. Stella 2nd sequence (Papa due): II. Granduca, VII. Forza, XII. Appeso, XVII. Prudenza, XXII. Terra, XXXVII. Luna 3rd sequence (Papa (tre): III. Imperatore, VIII. Giustizia, XIII. Morte, XVIII. Fede, XXIII. Aria, XXXVIII. Sole 4th sequence (Papa quattro): IIII. Imperatrice, VIIII. Ruota, XIIII. Diavolo, XVIIII. Carita, XXXVIIII. Mondo 5th sequence (Papa cinque): V. Amore, X. Carro, XV. Casa, XX. Fuego, XXXX. Fama The astrological cards are left out of this chart. However, they will be discussed elsewhere in the subforum as we go along.
Flaxen Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 That’s a really interesting approach. Would you see cards with the shared numeral as having properties in common or would there be a sequence of development?
fire cat pickles Posted May 12, 2019 Author Posted May 12, 2019 I'm not sure we should separate these two ideas completely. There should be some crossover, a dovetailing effect of sorts, in order to make the system work. I'm hashing out this idea as we speak right now with the progression from Magician to Temperance, in fact! It is taking some time 🙂 Stay tuned.

Flaxen Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Thank you! I like the way you have brought both elements into play and I love the comparison with alchemy and higher spiritual concerns.
legendaryelement Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 (edited) Not sure, but I think this is the most appropriate thread to drop this ... I am prepping for what I want to do for May 25 ~ World Tarot (& Towel) Day *aka Geek Pride Day* and found the (standard) Major Arcana exercise suggested here https://www.tarotassociation.net/world-tarot-day/ I'm considering using the Minchiate! Anyone else up for it? I'm browsing info on the virtues and the zodiac signs (alchemy processes) for hints to make prompts for the extra cards. Edited May 23, 2021 by legendaryelement fixing link
fire cat pickles Posted June 5, 2021 Author Posted June 5, 2021 @legendaryelement I don't how I missed your post! How did your exercise go?
legendaryelement Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 (edited) Hi, FCP! I decided to save the exercise for sometime during the week of June 14-20. - - - - edit Mental percolation with the Minchiate depictions and possible associations convinced me that the prompts need to be reworked on their own merit. So, I shuffled the Majors ten times to get “my” study project order.
