Roots of Asia Tarot for me this week (in prep for 78 weeks of tarot starting this week).

Thanks, VG!

Hi VG! I want to say that I am really enjoying the DotW! It's great to work through decks I haven't used much, to get a better feel for how they work for me. It's also been great to revisit some old favorites ... kind like reconnecting with an old friend. ;D

Anyway, this week, as Rose Lalonde mentioned, the 78 Weeks study group is starting. I will be using a Thoth-based deck for that study, so I thought it would be a good idea for me to reconnect with my actual Thoth Tarot this week. And, since it is still my only Oracle, I will continue to use the A'HA Oracle.

I think it's time for my planned 70's week! I made a little chart in my bullet journal that I'd like to put up a picture of here. Since I know there's a lot of decks I haven't done DotW with I looked through Aeclectic and the past weeks on here so I could track which decks I've used already and how many times ;D It's a great reference sheet and I know I have many decks that still need to come out for a week or two.

LOL! I hadn't noticed that VG is only giving us 4 days this week! :o

Hi all - Not sure what's going on with the short week up there!  ;D Life has been crazy and my cards have been non-existent, so I will join again on Friday and try to be better. In the meantime, I hope everyone who is dealing with Irma is safe and sound, or that your family members are. Good thoughts to all.

Hahaha, I just saw that too.  No, I am not that mean.  Short brain cells I think.

Someday my life will get a little less busy...but apparently not right now.    ;)

Phew! :o Now I don't feel like I have to cram 7 days worth of readings into 4 ... that was going to be a tight fit!  ;D

I just wanted to say a few words about the Alice Tarot by Baba Studio. I have had the deck for, I think, a year and a half. It’s beautifully done, with lovely art and shiny metallic highlights. I didn’t buy the full book to go with the cards, but I did reread the original stories. The deck comes with an LWB.

I used the deck for a while when I first got it, and while I liked it at first I got tired of it pretty quickly. I felt like there were too many cards that looked too much alike: too many with Alice, etc. After the first crush was over, I felt like I wasn’t getting a lot out of the readings.

I put it away and just took it out again over the weekend. I have used it for a couple of two-card readings for myself since then, and, after feeling myself getting stuck again in the second reading, I think I have made some progress in using the deck by digging a little deeper and giving the cards more time to stir themselves around in my brain. It has also helped that I think I’m a (very) little better grounded in Tarot than I was when I got the deck.

In the LWB, Karen Mahony provides both traditional meanings and deck-specific meanings. This time around I am better able to appreciate how clever some of the card choices are. Karen also stresses that with this deck, it’s helpful to try to go with intuitive interpretations. That seemed to finally work for me. I slept on a reading last night (not literally!) and in the morning it all made sense.

So yay :D.

I had to go find images of the cards on this one. It's very pretty! The artwork is beautifully done. Your experience with it so far is quite interesting. Especially the part about it making more sense when you go mostly with intuition. I've found that with a couple of decks myself.

Alice is such a cool deck! Karen was kind enough to barter with me for it and I love the quality of it, the humor and the beauty and that it made me go and re-read the books.

My week with Arthurian is amazing. I seem to pull the same cards a lot which is good, it can take me a few days to really 'get' a card. This is another deck that makes me wanna pull out my copy of "The once and future king"

The minors are rather stark but I like that about them, they are really just a location for my imagination to roam, turn rocks, interpret clouds

I got the Arthurian about a year ago, but I have never used it. I'm not sure how to approach it at all. I guess a good start would be a reread of The Once and Future King. I'm interested to hear how you make out with it, jema.

So, I've been using the Thoth Tarot this week. It has been an interesting deck to work with. It really had been several years since I've worked with the Thoth and I had kind of forgotten the feel of the deck. Of course, there is some variation of meaning from the RWS which I am most familiar with, but not a lot. Rather, I would say that the Thoth Tarot makes me think beyond the RWS quite often. In some cases, I'll look at a card and some fairly "standard" meanings might come to mind. But then, I'll look at a card and have to think, and ponder for a bit. Then something will pop into my head, or I'll open up the book and reading about the card will bring something to mind ... and sometimes those things are related to meanings I'm familiar with, but take me deeper, or on a tangent from what I'm used to.

There are, of course, numerous editions of the Thoth Tarot available. Mine is the older AGMüller deck printed in Belgium. The cards are relatively large and I really love the feel of the deck.

All in all, I'm very glad I brought this deck out from hibernation. It works well for me for readings and is bringing some new ideas into my head for meanings of the cards. It is definitely adding new depths and dimensions to the Tarot for me.

The Thoth is great Trogon, so I'm glad you liked working with it. I had a few weeks with it as my deck of the week this summer and I really enjoyed it. I got the strongest intuitive pull I've ever felt one day when I picked my 1 card of the day. Usually I ask my card if they're my card of the day (or now, the card for each position in my 3-card daily spread) when the deck feels ready and I pull from the top. Typically I feel some sort of energy from the card, sometimes it can be calm, feel like it's in the head, in the heart etc. but from this card I got a super intense feeling in my chest! The card was the Prince of Wands! I've recently discovered that my natal chart is Leo-dominant so maybe I'm reconnecting with that fire energy?

The only thing I don't like about my version of the Thoth is that it's kinda small and has flimsy cardstock. I don't think there are any editions with really good cardstock printed these days so I'm thinking about getting the extra large size cards so that problem is fixed at least!
