I set myself a challenge: create a small-ish spread (I'm not a fan of anything less than five cards) that takes advantage of Elemental Dignities and the quintessence to provide additional detail. I've found that it reads well. Here are a couple of links.

Hi @Barleywine.  This thread here also discusses the elemental dignities.  You might find it interesting.  I read for others and I like the shorter spreads.  I can use them to pinpoint certain areas that larger spreads just take too long to get to the message!

When I was doing public readings at a shop, I was only allowed 15-20 minutes per sitter, so I created a stripped-down version of the Celtic Cross that would fit. Normally I prefer the full version and take around 45-60 minutes to do justice to one. My method with most spreads is to lay out all of the cards face-up at once except the outcome card (it leaves a bit of remaining drama in the reading; I tell my sitters it's part of the "theater of tarot"), so I get a quick gestalt feel for the message. That allows me to jump right on the key points and let the rest go until later, if time permits.

I have experimented with the Celtic Cross for a year and I've finally come up with the way I read it now.  I do read professionally and I have to use spreads for some things, it's easier to sell as a package.  But if I get a choice, I'll do a 3 tarot + one oracle card reading, no positions.

Did this version use the elementary dignities?

I have a 3 card with 2 hidden 2 advise from the cards and a nondescript Oracle that is my go too!

I use hidden cards in some spreads, usually with a method for deciding which of them to turn up as the outcome card, kind of like the old "Lady or the Tiger" story..
