Angelarium Oracle

So my copy of this deck arrived today, at last! I've followed the artist's angelarium project for a while, so I knew the art was going to be beautiful - and it absolutely is; the cards themselves are gorgeous.

But...I have absolutely no clue how to actually use this deck. It's Lo Scarabeo, which means an utterly useless 'guidebook' by default...but this one seems especially useless. Even the description of each card doesn't really convey what meaning it would have if it was drawn in a reading. I also have to confess to being a little disappointed that there's so few cards - just 33 - but the main issue is definitely that I can't figure out how I'm supposed to use it.

Does anyone else have this deck? How are you finding it? Have you been able to do readings with it? (And if yes, how???)

I puzzled over this for awhile too! In the end, I think that this is a 'card a day' oracle, or one that gets used in conjunction with a tarot reading as a lens for one's overall spiritual position in the moment, to put the reading into an extra sort of context. Unless you're well versed in the Kabbalah (I'm not), using this as an independent reading deck seems difficult.

This deck also incorporates the Kabbalah? That's just very interesting. I shall put this in my wishlist.

I love the deck.  I read it intuitively along with my tarot readings.  I also have some angel books and often look up the angels and get some keywords from the books that apply to the cards.

I know I'm probably a little late to this particular party, but I just came across these incredible cards that can be seen here.

Does anyone know of them, own them and understand how they work? Published by Lo Scarabeo, the LWB is very slim and doesn't really offer enough. The artwork is absolutely stunning and I can't help but be sorely tempted. I know they are based on the Kabbalah and the Tree of Life, but little else.

Insights into this deck would be much appreciated. Thank you. [emoji4]

I have them- and really do like them.

First caveat- these are not "reading" cards for me. And I don't really know how they would work to try to do a reading on a particular question.

Second- they are stunning- the imagery is simply amazing.

Third- they have a distinct depth that you don't often see in oracle cards.

How I use them is to pull one out on days where I want to see the guidance for the following week, year, etc.

They are very well done- probably one of the best oracle decks I have worked with and that is why it is one of the few I have kept.

Definitely worth the time and purchase.

Shivani they are on Amazon for $17.96

I love the cards but they might seem disturbing at first.  These are not your Doreen Virtue angels.  There isn't a book ( there is a used one for $700 on Amazon ) but I use a few angel dictionaries and a couple books on the Enochian angels.

Thank you, my dear Saturn Celeste[/member] .  <3 <3 <3 I will order them from Amazon.ca. I have to laugh because they are definitely not Doreen Virtue's angels. LOL I would love to know more about insights into the Enochian angels and others and how they pertain to these cards.

So grateful to you, my dear.  <3I just ordered the Angelarium. Curious to see how it will pair with the True Black Tarot that I pre-ordered and hope to receive in December or January.

Hi Shivani!  Great to see you!  That True Black Tarot is awesome.  If I come into some money soon I'd like to get it myself.  I feel awful about saying these decks aren't like Doreen Virtue, I'm not knocking her decks, I'm just trying to bring home these angels aren't sweet or really comforting.  I feel they bring truth and reality.

Thank you, my dear Saturn.  <3 <3 <3 It's good to see you, too. I understand what you say about Doreen Virtues angels, and I like them, too (I have an Angel tarot deck by her that I like and use), but these of the Angelarium are something else. The Enochian revelations (as part of the so-called lost books) are a completely new discovery for me. Now, I'm curious, so I'm actually very interested in seeing how these cards "talk" to me. I really appreciate all your recommendations and have put one or two of your book suggestions on my list. I took a quick peek at the Angel Watcher Tarot, but will have to take a closer look.

Thanks for mentioning these in my journal, Shivani[/member]  :)  Also it was great to hear from you!  <3

The 12 Emanations in the deck seem straight forward for how I read, because they correspond to the minors, at least in the way the Golden Dawn / RWS / Thoth assigned them:

Keter  Aces

Chokhmah, 2s

Binah 3s

Chesed 4s

Gevurah 5s

Tifiret 6s

Netzah 7s

Hod 8s

Yesod 9s

Malkuth 10s.

(Ein Sof - above the Tree - and Da'at - the false sephirah or Abyss -- neither of those have tarot cards specifically assigned to them.)

The 22 Seraphim are not quite so obvious, and I'd either read them intuitively or assign them to the 22 majors, but though some are great fits, a couple of them seem less of a match to me at first glance. (The number 22 seems like no accident, but maybe they weren't meant to be counterparts. I haven't read anything other than the little on the site.)

I'm going to have to get it now.

My dear Rose, this all sounds like a different language to me. Would you have the patience to point me in the right direction (books, websites, your own explorations, etc.) so that I may understand about the emanations, how these correspond to the minors and also keep me in the loop about the seraphim? I would really appreciate that.

Posted

My dear Rose, this all sounds like a different language to me.

LOL. So is tarot and you can read that. You only have to pick up 15 words or so, so there's really no need to worry!

"Ein Sof" means Infinite (without end), and is the name for God that exists outside space time and creation. The Ein Sof used ten emanations (Sefirot) to create the universe.

[*]Keter means Crown. It is the first emanation and can be considered a point or seed of the universe. It's associated with Aces as Rose said.

[*]Chochma is Wisdom. It's the second emanation that flows from Keter. It's associated with intuitive knowledge or inspiration in Jewish Kabbalah. The twos.

[*]Binah is Understanding. Considered and thought-through knowledge. It flows from Chochma. The threes.

[*]Chesed is Loving Kindness. Unswerving generosity. The fours.

[*]Gevurah is Severity or Judgement. This is a limitation, seen as a balance to Chesed. The fives.

[*]Tiferet is Beauty. Internal emotional balance. The sixes.

[*]Netzach is Victory. Dominance. The sevens.

[*]Hod is Glory. Submission as a balance to Netzach. The eights.

[*]Yesod is Foundation. The nines. Not only does it support the tree, it's also what gives birth to our world.

[*]Malkut is Kingdom. Our world/universe. The physical realm where the laws of nature hold. The tens.

Each of the ten Sefirot flows from the previous during creation, and they are linked together by 22 channels or paths, which in some decks are associated with 22 Hebrew letters. The structure formed is called the Tree of Life.

684px-Tree_of_life_wk_02.svg.png

Da'at is Knowledge. It's not really a Sefirah (the singular of Sefirot), but can stand in for one, typically Binah or Keter. In Hermetic tradition it sits in an abyss that requires ones identity to be sacrificed in the crossing.

I don't know which version of Kaballah the Angelarium is based on. I've only heard of a handful of the Seraphim (and those aren't technically Seraphim). If you can't find their historic basis, my suggestion is you just take the deck on its own merits and enjoy the stunning art.

When I was deciding whether to buy the Angelarium or not, I came across a YouTube video (unboxing or something) the author of which said that in his opinion the Da'at card could relate much better to 0 - the Fool... .

Also, that the angels correspond to the paths... . Which path each corresponds to is a mystery, though.

Anyway, it seems that both you understand the relationship between the Tree of Life and Tarot, so I am very curious to see, my dear Rose, how you will marry the different entities in these cards with potential correspondences in the Tarot.

On the Seraphim page, Azrael of Death is 13 and Uriel, who's said to hold the key to Hell, is 15, etc. so I was thinking of tarot major correlations (since Qabalah has been applied to tarot by many, including Waite). Plus he has the zodiac.  BUT there's no reason why the artist would have to make the oracle have anything to do with tarot majors, and looking at all the Seraphim, I don't think it does.

For now, I'm going to assume this deck is one person's own artistic rendering of the Tree of Life with no other correspondences.

(I probably won't be able to help thinking of the Emanations in terms of the minor cards, personally, but only because almost everything I know about the Tree of Life is from the hermetic Qabalah I learned via the Golden Dawn / RWS / Thoth.)
