Pardon me for my newbie question, but what is the differences between tarot AND oracles?

I am new to the world of oracles.

How do one read an oracle?

It's mostly in structure and interpretation. Tarot generally has 78 cards, oracles have as many as their creators see fit. Tarot has a well-defined internal architecture, which is not necessarily so with oracles. Tarot has a long tradition of established core meanings for the cards, while oracle creators usually develop their own set, often based on mystical and psychological principles. Where they're alike is in the ability to read them intuitively based on free-association from the images.

ETA: This explanation doesn't include Lenormand, Kipper and a couple of other historical decks, which are unique types of oracle with their own structure.
