Typically I don't get intimidated or scared by Devil cards but the Cat People Devil is something else! He looks really omnious and mean, I imagine him influencing the fighting cats with his evil powers  :o :'(

My vote goes to the Book of Kaos Tarot (http://www.crossroads.wild.net.au/tarot.htm; Solandia's review of it is here: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/book-of-kaos/review.shtml). Beautiful, intense, and more than a little disturbing.

Oh. Oh wow. I don't know how I missed this. Is this what they call a Left-Hand Path Tarot? I'm quite wary of things like that but this one is just too fascinating.

This goes straight to my Def-Buy list for next year since my dance card's full until Christmas. A world of thanks FLiz.

BTW here is a List of Some Dark and Gothic Decks, just in case you're in doubt about your deck. I don't think it's an exhaustive list tho as I think it should have included the Wild Unknown, which is certainly a dark one.

Hello,

My favourite dark deck is the Bohemian Gothic, no question. I just think it is brilliant and beautiful, and I have never enough of it.

I also like Vargo's Gothic tarot, and Place's Vampire tarot.

I have the Deviant Moon but it is not as dark, for me. To me it has the vibe of a "normal" deck disguised in a "dark deck's" costume, but its voice is not dark really, it is more cheeky IMO.

And the Wild Unknown, to me, is not a dark deck either. Even if the Ten of Swords is nightmarish (but it is the duty of the ten of Swords to be nightmarish and over the top, isn't it ?), only traditionally "dark" cards are represented in this manner, all other cards are not dark at all, many are in fact quite light ! (look at the Aces for example)

For me, a "dark" deck ought to have a special voice, in order to be classified in the "dark" department. It should give all cards the posssibility of a sinister twist, cards should be able to read on several layers... the Bohemian Gothic is a master at this game !

I'll definitely check out Deviant Moon. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm so excited... I have Dark Grimoire coming to my apartment on Thursday. Yay!

I've only got two decks that I would consider "dark". One is The Necronomicon Tarot, which is quite dark indeed, but is wonderful to work with. I have gotten quite a few very good readings with it. The other deck, which I think is more odd than "dark" is the previously mentioned Deviant Moon Tarot. The DM is also an excellent deck to work with.

One of my best friends likes me to bring Tarot decks when he throws parties, but he won't let me bring the DM, says it creeps him out. I wonder what he'd think of the Necronomicon? ;D

I just found out about Lucifer's Tarot and I think I've just fallen in love.

To the Lucifer, I've added the Tarot of Shadows by Sklyarova. This is shaping up to be an interesting winter.

I wonder what dark decks you guys have chosen to keep you company during these long, black, and chilly winter nights. I don't know about you, but the season seems to lend itself perfectly for shadow readings.

Darn it!  - just closed the window by mistake, and had to start again!

...

Dark decks in my possession in order of popularity:

Tarot of the Night  LOVE it!

Barbieri Tarot  LOVE it!  (used for self-analysis and if you like "shadow work")

The Daemon Tarot (an oracle deck)

Fallen Angels Oracle

Dark Angel Tarot

Dark Fairytale Tarot

(Dark Angel and Dark Fairytale - I've mixed them together - the best of both into one deck of 78)

Vampire Tarot of the Eternal Night

Bohemian Gothic Tarot

Wormwierd Tarot

May be considered dark:

Barbara G Walker  (My go-to "kickass" spellwork deck)

Halloween Tarot

Night Sun Tarot

Secret Tarot  (used for spellwork)

I fancy the Shadow Tarot (Fowler and Falorio.)

And I'm tempted by Animalis Os Fortuna (Megan Weber) and The Tarot of Bones (Lupa)

but have never yet got there...

I don't consider the Wild Unknown or The Cat People decks dark.

The Cat People - is my go-to "flowery-floaty" deck for spellwork. Lol.

And Ahh yes - The Book of Kaos by Orryelle Defenestrate... attended a workshop by him once, (on meditation techniques. Pretty good one too.) and I have a piece of his artwork (Treadwells Bookshop, Bloomsbury, London). He's a celebrity Chaos Magician.

Wasn't quite caught by his deck when it came out in Treadwells (launch night with signed copies and all that).

Vampire Tarot of the Eternal Night

I was sad when I learned that the kit edition of this deck (the one with the companion book) has gone OOP.

I don't see the Ian Daniels Vampyre Tarot mentioned but that's by far my favorite dark deck. I'm not especially a dark deck fan but I love the art work in this particular one.

Yeah. :-\ The available remaining copies have tear-inducing prices. I dislike digital art inTarot decks, but this is one of the very few that I'm willing to make an exception for. However, I shan't be buying it without the companion book.

I always thought I wouldn't enjoy dark decks but guess what?  I like them.  I don't have many but I'm really liking the Night Sun tarot.  I never bought it because I just knew it wasn't my kind of deck.  But I love it.  It really comes alive when I study the cards with a magnifying glass.  And lets not forget the Ludy Lescot!  Another deck I assumed would be ridiculous and I love that one too.

Hi Magicjack :)  I remember us comparing notes about Night Sun on AT. I had it but nearly traded it on as it kind of repelled me. Well, after working with it a bit, I now think it's a fantastic deck. I've had great readings from it.

I too am sorry I waited too long to buy the Vampire Tarot of the Eternal Night kit.  I have looked all over the world - online - to try and find one.  I did order one from Ebay but it never came and I just got my money back.  I don't want to buy the deck alone as I really do want the companion book.

So for now my favorite dark decks are Bohemian Gothic tarot and the Oracle of Shadows.

I too love the art in the Tarot of Vampyres - I mean look at all those roses! - and its Phantasmagoria tome is one of the best Tarot companion books ever released. It's also great for shadow work.
