Youtube does offer an autotranslate option for the subs. It''s not perfect but it's better than missing ALL of it ! Set up to show them and then go for settings and pick autotranslate.

The most fascinating video is the one referenced further up in this thread to which _R_ gives a lot of links. The one from the TV channel Arte. People outside Europe maybe don't know what Arte is. It's a French/German TV channel that produces normally high quality documentaries.  They don't go into junk TV. They do have an English website but I didn't find this documentary on it. I did watch however a nice one about the The Art and Science of Fairy Tales and the Fairy Tale Academy in Bavaria 🙂. The documentaries on their English site are sub-titled : https://www.arte.tv/en/
