RavenOfSummer Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Just came across this deck that's currently on Indiegogo, same creator as the latest Shakespeare Tarot (the horizontal one) that I believe came out late last year or early this year. The Indiegogo is here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-beatles-tarot-music-art#/ And all the cards can be viewed here: https://www.beatlestarot.com/ Pretty neat concept! I'm a huge Beatles fan so I can see how these card ideas fit. I find the Death card rather disturbing though [emoji15] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
gregory Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 His work is SO good. I love the Shakespeare. But the price - I really can't. That is an ODD death card... Not what I'd call disturbing but very weird.
katrinka Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 At a glance, I didn't like it. It has a non-unified, disconnected look, like those group project decks where everybody does one card. But then I really started looking at the cards. This thing actually seems to be very well thought-out. They'll most likely be getting a Benjamin from me. I like the Death card. John's assassination would have been the cheap, obvious, sensationalistic route, and they didn't take it. Nor did they turn a blind eye and totally avoid it. There's an allusion, but it isn't specifically that. John's on the floor, clowning. The skeleton does hold a pistol. I looked up November 9 (printed on the bottom) and it's the day that Paul "died". https://beatlesdaily.com/2016/11/09/november-9-events-today-in-beatles-history/. Is that bottle with the Scorpio glyph liquid LSD? And the Revolver cover ("She said, I know what it's like to be dead...") Very well done. Props!

I think you're right Katrinka...it is a well thought out card, but I still find even the allusion to John's murder disturbing. It's undoubtedly part of the overall story though, so perhaps it would have been stranger and more conspicuous, or even less honest to shy away from it entirely. It's not that I find the idea of death disturbing as such...Death is actually one of my favorite cards (probably my second favorite after The Moon) and often a well-done Death card can draw me to a deck. But I think the reference to a real-life horrific murder just disturbs me. I can also see how that could make the card particularly effective in a reading, but for me this might just be "that one card" in this deck that would make the deck difficult for me to use.
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 I love the Beatles and I love hearing their songs on easy listening Sundays, but I'm not really a fan of photo-realistic decks. It still looks mighty interesting tho.
