DejaVoo Posted January 11, 2020 Posted January 11, 2020 I've recently purchased the Arthur Rackham oracle 2nd edition deck and the cards are too slippery!  I do not like slippery cards and was wondering if there was a way to de-laminate them (if that's a word). 👀  They feel really cheap to me.  I love the deck but can't stand slippery cards that just go all over the place when I try to shuffle and handle them.  I prefer hard/thick card stock with little to no lamination.
Raggydoll Posted January 11, 2020 Posted January 11, 2020 Oh no! How dreadful. I really dislike slippery cards as they fly all over the place when I shuffle. I am not sure if there is any quick way of fixing it. I wonder if fanning powder can neutralize too much glide or if it would make it worse. We will ask @katrinka!Â

Yes, that's true, and it was a disappointment for me too (I was part of the Kickstarter). Otherwise I also found the card stock too thick, the cards don't shuffle well. I regret this purchase to be honest, and the LWB is of no interest, well... 🥴 To answer your question I think (on my part) that there is no solution, but you can re-sell it. Â

Arania Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 Talcum Powder? Â I had my eyes on the deck but I better not buy it. Slippery cards are not usable to me.

Arania Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 How big are they? Could they be put in sleeves?

gregory Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 NOT talcum powder. It collects moisture in the end and adheres...  If you use them a lot they will de-slip, though. Shuffle. Shuffle a very lot.

Yeah, just re-home them. Not everyone is fussy about cardstock so you’ll find someone who wants them I’m sure. It’s not worth spending time or money trying to fix something that you’d rather get rid off.Â
Decan Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 (edited) One time I saw a review on YouTube where the lady was saying that the deck she was showing wasn't like the great quality decks people are making now, and here you have to understand the laminated decks we find on the market. Well, there are some people who love laminated decks, it's something a bit surprising for me (and I don't think that it's the majority of people too), but I have no statistic on that matter, so... The card stock and lamination on these cards is not for me. Â I like how they have combined the deck to be a cross of tarot and oracle, and that's why I mainly purchased them. Â I don't believe I saw a review on the quality of the cards before I purchased them though and had no prior knowledge about that part. Â And, I am aware that some people love heavily laminated decks, I'm just not one of them....

Yes, fanning powder is wonderful stuff. It gives grip to overly slippery cards, and slip to sticky ones. It only takes a pinch- put the cards and the power in a bag and shake them up, then shuffle. Make sure you get pure zinc stearate, and that you use that as your search term. (If you search for "fanning powder", you'll findpeople selling smaller amounts at a higher price.) I got mine here: https://smile.amazon.com/Stearate-Powder-Ounces-99-3-Grade/dp/B00T3PXPTG/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=loudwolf+zinc+stearate&qid=1578962239&sr=8-2 Â

katrinka Posted January 26, 2020 Posted January 26, 2020 You're very welcome. If this deck isn't all it's cracked up to be, I'm sure the zinc stearate will be useful for other decks you DO love. It gave my very sticky University Books RWS a new lease on life, and stopped some very lovely linen decks from being too slippy!
bastetly Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 This item requires special handling and cannot be shipped to your selected location. This is what Amazon is telling me (in California). Rats, it's the only brand they list... Â

That's what is says underneath the price, Not sure why it takes special handling, but is combustible if it gets hot enough. May just be a California regulation? Couldn't find much when I googled. There are some on ebay.
katrinka Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 (edited) A lot of things are combustible if they get hot enough. I'm sure amazon ships paper products, rubbing alcohol, etc. to California. But I can't find any definitive answers, either. California does ban single use plastics (GOOD) but I don't think that would apply to cards, no matter how plastified they are. Mass confusion, lol: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/forums/t/why-amazon-doesnt-ship-my-product-in-california/512021 My money is on "it's a screw up". Amazon is a many headed monster, and one head often doesn't know what the other heads are doing. Â Edited January 27, 2020 by katrinka

gregory Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Won't send to the UK either - they also sell on etsy - same message.

I seem to be running into it more and more. Ya know what? I think you are right @moonglow. I recently changed my delivery address to a pick-up point. So I just changed it again to see, to my home, and NOW I don't get that message. Thanks for coming on to point this out 🙂
