ayuryogini Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Not sure if this is already known, but I just noticed that USGames has the CBD Tarot de Marseille available for pre-order, to ship late November. I’ve been looking forward to adding this one to my collection and am happy to see it available again after the sad and unexpected passing of its creator, Yoav Ben-Dov, in December last year.
Page of Ghosts Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 I was also sad to hear of his passing even though I've yet to get any of his books or deck. This is the TdM I wanted to get to dive into the system. So great it gets a big release! I'm also interested in Yoav Ben-Dovs books on Tarot and TdM, they sound very interesting from what I've read of reviews.
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 I remember that the CBD is priced around $35+. I wonder how they made this one a lot cheaper.
Onaorkal Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Oh yeah I'm happy it's going to be back on the market! :) Yoan Ben-Dov looked like a great man, really generous. I was really saddened to learn he passed away. I hope many people will buy the deck and enjoy it! I have the app on my Android for now and hope I'll be able to buy the deck soon! I remember that the CBD is priced around $35+. I wonder how they made this one a lot cheaper. When Mr. Ben-Dov was selling his deck he was doing it on a small-scale I think, like he first had to pay for the printing of a certain number of decks and then he was selling them by himself. USGames taking care of it certainly means the costs of production will be way lower.
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 I was worried that like the price, the quality might get halved too since it's going to be a mass market release, but to USG's credit, the decks I had from them at the same $20+ price point have usually been nothing less than lovely. I hope their CBD will be a good one too. :)
Morsoth Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 I really love the version of the "Nicolas Cover 1760" by Kevin Meunier (might be hard to find in the US or UK) but I also like the style of Yoan Ben-Dov, so I'll probably buy it. I have way too much TDM!!!
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 I noticed that you have quite a passion for historical decks, Morsoth. :)
Morsoth Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 Indeed! The majority of my collection are about the historical decks (Visconti-Sforza, Sola-Busca, Tarot de Marseilles - Convers and Madenié are probably my favorites - and Etteilla III). I also have the Thoth and the Golden Dawn tarots (I like to collect different Tarot Systems). I think my favorite RWS are the Centennial and the Borderless editions. I also like the Radiant version, I'm using this one at my workplace to do readings for my coworkers! For modern decks, I have only few RWS inspired deck, but the ones I have are attuned with Paganism like the Druidcraft, the Witches Tarot, the Everyday Witches and the Green Witch Tarot or the innovative (like the Wild Unknown, the Raven's Prophecy Tarot or the True Black Tarot). I also have some Lenormand (I think I have 7-8 versions) and some "Oracle" decks. I will soon add the list to my profile, but I don't have so much compared to many of you here, or what I see on YouTube! Sorry in advance for being "out of topic" :)
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I think my favorite RWS are the Centennial and the Borderless editions. That does it, I am ordering the Borderless now. I did try to hold off thinking it's just the Centennial writ large, that the image expansions seem uneven etc but you just had to push my buttons, Morsoth. Yes, I'm blaming you for my relapse. :P ;D
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 Back to the topic tho: I only have three Marseille decks. If Yoav Ben Dov's book is really as good as they say it is, I'd be willing to buy it and this deck too for when I commence my Marseille study.
ayuryogini Posted October 18, 2017 Author Posted October 18, 2017 ........ I have way too much TDM!!! Is that really possible?!?!?
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 ........ I have way too much TDM!!! Is that really possible?!?!? Spotted the Marseille-o-phile!
FLizarraga Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 ........ I have way too much TDM!!! Is that really possible?!?!? Nope, not possible... ;D

I have the Fournier Le Tarot de Marseille (so colorful!), the Convers one by Bounty, and the 2012 edition of the Pierre Madenié 1709. The last one made me re-think my opinions on the Marseille since it is so vivid and gorgeous.
Morsoth Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 I'm a French Canadian, and here, it seems that most Tarot decks are from France, thus the Tarot of Marseille everywhere! I have lots of books in Franch about the Tarot of Marseille. That's why I'm not sure if I'll buy the one from Yoav Ben-Dov (The Marseille Tarot Revealed: A Complete Guide to Symbolism, Meanings & Methods). But, heh, I'll probably end by buying it! lol Here is my collection (to date, but I plan to add that CBD version pretty soon!) Ancien Tarot de Marseille (Paul Marteau) (Mini)Ancien Tarot de Marseille (Paul Marteau)Tarot de Marseille - Edition Millennium (Wilfried Houdouin)Tarot de Marseille (Mary Packard based on Pierre Madenié 1709)Tarot de Marseille (François Chosson 1736)Tarot de Marseille (Kevin Meunier based on Nicolas Conver 1760)

On the contemporary side, perhaps you should look into your compatriot Lynn Narciso's gorgeous Marseille decks... :)
Magickjack Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 I need to mention his book "The Open Reading" is a fine read not only for the deck but good for any tarot reader and just a nice book to have around.
Morsoth Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 All those are GREAT choices. On the contemporary side, perhaps you should look into your compatriot Lynn Narciso's gorgeous Marseille decks... :) I'm trying to find the deck, I've been looking a lot for a modern twist on the Tarot of Marseille (the only one I could find online was the one by Tadahiro Onuma (2010), whish is somehow the "radiant" version of the Tarot of Marseille). Is it "Lynyrd Narciso"? Also, how is called the deck? Thanks!!

It looks pretty cool and will come in one of those metal boxes.

Morsoth Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 For my part, I'm very interested by the Arcanum X Tarot, coming in 2018 or 2019 (?). There is some sneak peak here and here!

Here you can get a taste of his mind-boggling versatility: http://www.alchemywebsite.com/tarot/ly_narciso.html He has created two Marseille decks that I can recall: the soon to be released by USG Tarot de Maria Celia, and the Tarocchi di Marcelo Inciso, which is still available from Game Crafters: https://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/tarocchi-di-marcelo-inciso-a-tarot-deck-. (The Tarot de Maria Celia was also available from GC, but it was soon picked by USG.) I have the Marcelo Inciso, and it is a FANTASTIC deck.
