EmpyreanKnight Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 Does anybody here work with the Vice Versa Tarot? How does it handle, and how did you find it? More importantly, how do you work with it? How do you know which piles to pick for example, if you can see images in the front and back? I think I should fan it and choose the cards from thence instead of cutting the deck and stacking the different piles since you'd see the topmost cards in the latter. Also, when you pick a card, do you still flip it over as you would a deck with normal backs or do you let it stay as it is? I'm inclined to favor the latter tbh. One last thing. I've got the kit and it's scheduled to be delivered this week (yay!). Anyway, I read reversals, and since there are two images per card (front and back) it seems that there are four different ways to interpret a card (front-upright, front-reversed, back-upright, and back-reverse), right? So does the book have interpretations for all four? My apologies that I have so many questions. I'm just so pumped for this. :D
Morsoth Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I don't have it (yet) but it's the next I'll buy for sure. I have the "Tarot of the New Vision" (which has a similar approach, but only with the alternative view from the back) and only used twice for my own readings. I interpreted the cards the same way as any regular RWS, but I also added interpretation or spent more time to think about the new elements from the drawing. So, to answer the question, I would probably don't flip the cards during the shuffling and definitely read the card as any regular RWS with the front, then add a bonus interpretation based on the back image. I love original Tarot decks, but I don't like when the meanings of the cards are too far from the original meanings/keywords. I also plan to get the Tarot Kit, as it comes with a bigger companion book - with probably more detailed descriptions to help us with the many interpretations we can do for either they are upright or inverted, front or back. I can't find any preview of the pages, only an image with the book open: I'll probably order it this week (your post made me want this deck even more... I might label you as an enabler for this one! ;D) Anyway, I'll let you know soon about it when I get it!
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 18, 2017 Author Posted October 18, 2017 Yay Morsoth! Let's compare notes when we both get it. Also, you only used the Tarot of the New Vision twice? Didn't you like it? I plan to do a truly in-depth study of the RWS this 2018. That's why I purchased a slew of RWS-inspired decks that offer a different view of the RWS images - the After Tarot Kit and the Vice Versa Tarot Kit (which are both coming this week) and the Tarot of the New Vision Kit. I already gave my source the go-ahead for the last one. Would you recommend it tho? :( Well you enabled me too on the Borderless so that's just fair lol. ;D
Morsoth Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Hahaha! We are both enablers! :P Yes, I would recommend the Tarot of the New Vision, I really like it! The only reason why I didn't used it more often is because I have my 3 go-to decks for the workplace (when I read for my coworkers), personal readings and for obtaining omens during rituals. The other decks I own are less often used and when I do, it's for other purposes. I include the New Vision/After Tarot/Vice Versa as great decks to explore beyond the classic RWS system. I will certainly use them again, maybe for some Shadow Work spreads that I plan on doing all year long in 2018. 2018 will be my holistic study through Tarot!
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 19, 2017 Author Posted October 19, 2017 Thanks, Morsoth! I really fancy the New Vision, and I'm glad you liked it. :D After exploring a dizzying array of decks and fortifying my collection this year, I plan to hunker down this 2018 too and to focus on studying the ones I find most relevant to my objectives. I'm happy that someone would be taking that journey next year too. :) I'd love to see any interesting spreads you'd use for that trio.
Morsoth Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 I created my own Tarot spread last year, and I'll use it a lot! It is based of the four elements and the 3 Celtic realms (Sky, Land, Sea). I called it the "Druidcraft Spread" (not really related to the Druidcraft Tarot, but based on the same philosophy of merging Druidry with Witchcraft/Wicca developed by Philip Carr-Gomm in his Druidcraft book. You can read about the spread on my blog: https://druidcraftblog.wordpress.com/2016/10/14/i-did-my-own-tarot-spread/ I'll also use the spreads from the book Tarot Shadow Work by Christine Jette.
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 20, 2017 Author Posted October 20, 2017 I've been planning on starting each month with a magnificent spread. I'll perform your Druidcraft Spread on the first of November. It's cohesive, the questions are incisive, and I think that if one truly meditates on the cards one draws for it, it can be really powerful. I recommend that you post it in the Tarot Spread Subforums so that more members here would see it. I like it a lot. You may also want to put one of your not-too-personal readings there as a guide. Once I finish my reading and interp, I'd also post mine there. :)
Morsoth Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 Thanks for the feedback! I'll post it in the sub-forum! Thanks again!
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 23, 2017 Author Posted October 23, 2017 I finally got my Vice Versa Tarot Kit, and it's so beautiful. I did promise myself that I'd only open it once I get the quintet so that I can spend a whole day comparing them. The mailman recently delivered the Pamela Colman Smith Commemorative Set (which is also very beautifully presented) and the After Tarot Kit, so I'll just be waiting for the Tarot of the New Vision Kit and the Smith-Waite Borderless to arrive. I'm so excited! ;D
