I just accidentally deleted a couple of paragraphs of reply to a topic.  Y'know, highlighted almost whole thing, didn't notice, pressed something and poof! gone.  I am holding that window open and not doing anything else, but can't find an "undo" button anywhere.  There MUST be one riiiiiiight?

I googled it.  Ctrl Z seems to be one solution....

I use Ctrl + Z when that happens to me!

Oh, a very helpful tip!

Now a question:

Is is a "large" = upper case Z or the regular z?

Thank you! 🙂

Good to know you use this as well, and it works.  I remember a distinct UNDO selection when I had Windows 7, but I can't find it on 10.  Seems weird to have done away w it, since people really need to UNDO all the time!

If anyone can tell me if there is an UNDO w W10, please tell me where to look.  There must be one.  There HAS to be!?

Yes, you're right, the lower-case z is the one that works.  I tried upper-case but got nuthin....

Ctrl Z for undo is true across all WIndows machines, much like Ctrl C for copy and ctrl V for paste.  Uppercase is not a thing unless the instructions call for ctrl + shift + letter.

I'm pretty sure that's a browser thing, not a Windows thing. You should have a little browser menu doohickey, usually on the upper left. Mine looks like this, the blue thing that says "Pale Moon" (YMMV):

Capture.JPG.9ace7ecbc267b6b10b044b090e881dcd.JPG

It gives me the little dropdown menu with the Bookmarks, History, etc. Clicking Edit will take me to a clickable Undo.
But, that said, it's better to just get in the habit of using Ctrl z. That way it doesn't matter what browser you're using or where the damn button might be hiding. 😉

You see that's the thing.  My browser menu doesn't have an undo anywhere.  It used to!  I just switched to W10 in January.  It's gone.   Thanks for the input, ctrl z is certainly easier than going to the drop menu.  I really should have updated my 1980s computer classes.  Remember Lotus 1-2-3?  😄

OK then thanks!  I hope you're feeling better LF.  🙂

I remember when it was new, lol. I didn't do spreadsheets, though. I did word processing and data entry using something called Quad. There was another, simpler program called Slate that some people used, but Quad let you do more once you learned it. Everything ran off of a big HP 3000 mainframe in a cold room. The guys used to put on coats to go mess with it. With Quad, you typed commands at a prompt. You could write jobs and programs in it too, or set your soft keys to whatever you wanted them to do. (There were no shortcuts then, we had to make them.) It was fun and we were always messing with each other, sending fake error messages and continuous beeps and ASCII pictures. Or sometimes we'd just message each other and talk. Nobody cared as long as your work wasn't getting backed up. Then Compaq PCs came in with the green screens and the floppies. I had to use WordStar then and it was boring. I remember Compac didn't let us do anything but our regular work, and we weren't even connected to each other anymore. We all hated Compaq, lol.

I'd seriously look into another browser if yours is taking features away. They probably did it so they could substitute something "better" that nobody likes.
Twas ever thus. 😉

Most browsers have a settings function which you can use to have certain buttons show or not.  See if you can find yours - what browser are you using?

Hi @geoxena!  I'm getting Windows confused w my Google Chrome.  It's Chrome and the Chrome menu.  It was showing in the menu the last time I posted.  Now it's not showing.

I'm looking through my settings in the drop-down menu... aaand I can't find anything likely there.  Hm.

@katrinka, yes it's the G Chrome menu, not Windows that I'm searching....I got them mixed up in my head.

Chrome is the spawn of Satan and should only be used for watching movies on Amazon Prime, lol.

Why?  bc it's a Google product?

This is not the time or place for browser wars, just technical support.

OK LF, back to me having a Chrome menu and not finding anything regarding a pre-set "undo" selection.  Just seems odd...

I don't know what that is, I've only ever used keyboard shortcuts. 😞

I can't see a shortcut menu at all in Chrome. Or in Opera - my preferred browser. Opera does have a shortcut section - showing - a list of keyboard shortcuts

I have always used keyboard shortcuts. I have never seen a "pre-set" undo button - and lord knows I have even now (one moment) 7 browsers that I use from time to time.

ALL of them say to undo you hit ctrl + z.

ETA I googled:

I changed the title of this thread fm Windows 10 to google Chrome 😛

So I guess it's not a Windows button but a browser thing.  Except, before I had W10 installed (finally) this January, I remember an UNDO selection in my browser menu.   s***  confusing

So I get it, use the shortcut.

I need grandkids or just kids for these days--but only for computers.   🙈

I have had Chrome as one of mine for years. I have NEVER seen one. I am still on Windows 7.

Y'know I just found a place where it does come up.  When I R-click on the searchbar!

They're not supporting W7 since Jan 20th so that's why I upgraded.  I applaud your tenacity lol

And with that I close this thread.  I have enough answers and don't wish to suck up any more air on this.  Thank you all very kindly for your help. :animated-smileys-waving-065:

So it does - and it also says "ctrl + z" ! It does't actually DO it.

I will NEVER upgrade to 10. I know it is unsupported. I have another machine on XP which is also perfectly fine. I did also have one on Win2000 Pro till 2 years ago - but the processor wasn't up to the ever heavier internet, in the end - it was just too slow.

It is easy enough to stay safe - and the day it isn't,' I'm off to Linux (I have a lappie loaded and ready to go !)
