Guest Night Shade Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Hi everyone. Just wanted to know if anyone has ever had an experience like this. A couple years ago, I came across the Dark Grimoire Tarot. I liked the artwork on the box, so I said "ok, I'll give it a try". When I got it home and went through the deck, it made me so uneasy that I had to put it away for a couple of days before I could even look at it again, Around that time, I started having a bit of bad luck (nothing life changing, just minor annoyances). While I can't attribute it to the deck itself, I wonder if my negative feelings toward it ( and my anger at myself for wasting 25 bucks) caused more negativity to gather around me. Ultimately, I ended up throwing the deck away. Have any of you ever had this kind of reaction to a deck, and do you think there was a better way I could have handled it, as opposed to throwing the deck away? Oh, and by the way, if any of you love the Dark Grimoire Tarot, I apologize if I've offended you! :-[
Jewel Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Hi Night Shade, I have not had an experience like that, but as to how to handle it ... maybe next time you can consider selling or trading the deck - worst case scenario if you sell books to places like Half-Priced Books or somewhere like that you could put it with those things to maybe at least get a little of your money back. I have purchased decks that I was disappointed with and knew I did not want to keep and that is what I typically do with them.
odd_soul Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 I recently bought the Marigold Tarot, and though the art is gorgeous, I can't bear the thought of actually reading with it! I'm not sure if it's uneasiness or what, and it hasn't brought any bad luck, but after going through it a couple times to look at the art, I put it in my closet and I'm almost sorry I bought it. I mean, it'd be perfect for Halloween! This would be the perfect time of year to use it. Yet I'm having a very strong aversion to it and don't even want to handle it. Hopefully I'll connect with it sometime in the future. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Flaxen Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 The only deck I have this reaction with is the Enochian Tarot. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/enochian/ It is still sitting in a drawer but I can’t quite bring myself to get rid of it either!
DownUnderNZer Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 John Holland's Psychic Tarot Oracle Deck. No heebee jeebies, but for me it is the worst deck by far even more so than the Thoth. At least with the Thoth it is visually astounding. Just far too dark for me. This Psychic Tarot Oracle deck is not too different to when someone pulls things out of thin air. No meaning in it at all and nothing but fluff. Perhaps it is different for others, but I find it is not accurate and just does not sit right with me. If I do not give it away I most definitely will burn it. Mind you, I have to find it first as it is packed away somewhere. DND <3
Aldor44 Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 HAHA And here I thought I was the only one. A few years ago when I started learning Tarot- I got really excited about the Anna.K deck thanks to the Tarot Oracle- A youtuber who has done several Tarot lessons on how to read Tarot intuitively and in his clips he used that deck, I went ahead and bought it.. It has arrived and I played with it for a few days. At the time I was still leaning Tarot with a teacher so I decided to show my new deck on our next lesson. It was me , my teacher and another lady studying with me. I brought, showed them the deck and put it aside... After about half an hour all 3 of us independently started feeling a heaviness in the room... We tried to locate the source and finally came to the conclusion it came from the deck.. So I put it in my bag and the bag I places next to the entrance door... The heaviness and a feeling of oppression still wouldn't go away, so I ended up putting the bag outside and once I did within a few moments the heaviness lifted.. So I brought the deck home, and was like.. OH man! I should get rid of it ( at the time I didn't know you can cleanse a deck or anything).. So I was literally sitting for an hour in my room trying to muster the energy to throw it away- it felt like the ring from Lord of the rings that you know is bad but you can't make yourself get rid of it... It felt powerful in a way.. but not a good kind of power ( that is how I interpreted it at the time at least).. Eventually I mustered my will went to the big garbage bin and emptied the cards into it... Then, I went home to light a candle to clear the room.. for about an hour the candle was dancing like crazy..( the door and windows were closed) This was the first and the only time ( for now) that something like this has happened to me.. I am still a bit baffled as to how mass produced printed pieces of cardboard whom no one touched could hold such intensive energy.....
Guest Night Shade Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Thanks, guys. Glad to know that this happens to other people, and I wasn't just imagining things!
ilweran Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 The only deck I have this reaction with is the Enochian Tarot. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/enochian/ It is still sitting in a drawer but I can’t quite bring myself to get rid of it either! What about the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot by the same artist? That one freaked me out.

I don't have a deck that freaks me out but I do have a particular card that is so damn ugly!! It's the sun card from the World Spirit deck. That is one UGLY baby!!

EmpyreanKnight Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I haven't been put off by a deck before, but thanks for calling my attention to the Dark Grimoire, Night. Looks delish!

FLizarraga Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Hmm. Interesting topic. Let's see... That I remember right now: 1) The H.R. Giger Tarot, aka Baphomet Tarot. I went through the cards exactly twice, and got rid of it. No, no, no, no, NO, NO, NOOOOOOO! 2) The Tyldwick Tarot. Stunning. Hard to read with for me --no faces, no human figures, nothing I could get a handle on, intuitively speaking (though the core meanings are very well done). Put it under my pillow, and gave me the worst nightmares. EVER. Away it went. 3) The Nicoletta Ceccoli Tarot. So beautiful, deliciously surreal, yet it gives me a distinct feeling of unease. Can't put my finger on it. So I have never read with it. So far. 4) The Enchanted Forest Tarot. I find those exophthalmic beasts more than a little disturbing. Like a deck of possessed teddy bears...

DownUnderNZer Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Obviously, you have not seen Janus the vampire baby that came out in the 80s (possibly older). Angelic and stunning child though. Not sure if it was titled JANUS . To this day I do not know if my brother was telling me the truth about that film because I have never ever found it. And I have tried! There is a possibility that the title was changed as well like BIOHAZARD is changed in different countries. Seen it with a few other films as well. But what I do know is he snuck into our hometown movie theatre when he was under 13 to see this particular movie which was like R15 or R18 and loved the fact that the whole family were vampires including, Janus, the baby. Never forgotten it and have always wanted to see it....still do! DND <3 I don't have a deck that freaks me out but I do have a particular card that is so damn ugly!! Star83 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I wish I knew the deck but I was watching runescopes tarot on YouTube and she showed the tower card and it showed 5 naked ppl having an orgie. For me, that was way off for the tower card. I've never seen the tower as anything sexual, ever.

For me, that was way off for the tower card. I've never seen the tower as anything sexual, ever. A bit off topic, but.. this is a quote from The new tarot handbook by Rachel Pollack: "An interesting Contemporary interpretation sees the Tower as orgasm (especially male, from the imagery), and thus the Power of sex in general to change our lives". I have seen other authors make this connection as well. She (Rachel) also goes on to saying that sometimes the Tower can signify the discovery of an illicit affair. So, clearly some people view it as sexual. But the particular image that you are referring to (have not seen it myself, just going by your description), that sure baffles me too.

Oh I am aware the LOTS of tarot readers see the tower as sexual and an affair. But its never been the case in my readings. I've always seen it as chaos, break ups, destructive shocking news.
FLizarraga Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 If you guys don't like the Sun baby from the World Spirit, keep in mind that this is the "new and improved" baby from the second edition. The original was (rightly) called "the Nixon baby." Trust me, this one is prettier... ;D ;D ;D
sandrang123 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Deviant Moon always freaks me out. But there are many who love it!

Star83 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Saturn Celeste lol that is one ugly baby and definitely does not bring me child-like joy.

Guest Night Shade Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 3) The Nicoletta Ceccoli Tarot. So beautiful, deliciously surreal, yet it gives me a distinct feeling of unease. Can't put my finger on it. So I have never read with it. So far. I really like the Nicoletta Ceccoli Tarot, but I can't figure out if the figure on the Devil card is a giant worm or a giant demon carrot. :))
