Comments and questions are welcome.

The Dark Goddess Tarot by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince has already been serving a useful function.  A popular service that clients request is to meet their Spiritual Guides.  When someone has one or more Goddesses as a Guide I am often directed to use this deck, or The Goddess Deck by Kris Waldherr or the Tulku Oracle by karla refoxo.

In my study of each card, I am struck by how each Goddess inhabits her own queendom.  Each world is so fleshed out that it feels like a one card reading would often suffice for answering a question.  Each Goddess has such a large personality — can you imagine six of them inhabiting the same room, or the same reading?  Well we are about to find out!

First Impressions:  All cards are Minor Arcana cards.  Included are two court cards.  Suits are evenly distributed between the four suits in the numbered Minor Arcana.  Court cards are the Maiden of Swords and the Siren of Wands.  This tells me that this will be a practical deck for dealing with day to day situations and relationships as opposed to large overarching life issues.  The Dark Goddess may appeal most to younger (or younger oriented) women who are intellectual and spiritually minded.

Today’s interview questions:

1. Welcome to my temple, to my home, and to my mission work.  How do you describe yourself?

2. What are your strengths?

3. What are your challenges or limitations as a deck?

4. What is your favorite type of reading?

5. Advice for strengthening and enjoying our relationship together.

6. What lesson are you here to share with me right now?

Like Skadi, the Norse Goddess of Winter and Hunting, I am strong and independent.  I am resourceful and highly capable.  Clarity of vision allows me to use my tools to unerringly find my mark.  My skis allow me to glide over the surface of issues — not getting bogged down in confusing emotionalism.  I am a ‘player’.  I like to have fun and recognize the value of levity in delivering my information.

2. What are your strengths?  Seven of Swords ‘Laverna’7Swords.jpeg.18df0e61d5ddf458d3f5375d03bb5ed9.jpeg

I can provide answers and solutions to gnarly situations — where more conventional decks cannot.  My strengths are innovative thinking and creative problem solving.  I am not bound by convention.  I don’t particularly care what others may think of me.  The important thing is that you move through the tight and dark place where you may find yourself.  I can detect subterfuge; I can dish it out as well.

Unlike the forever grieving and remorseful Llorona, I am not bound by sentiment.  Some may think me cold-hearted and overly analytical.  Really I just cannot be bothered with crippling grief and excessive sadness.  I may not be the best deck to consult if you are processing a breakup or some terrible loss.  I have little sympathy for your pain.

4. What is your favorite type of reading?  Two of Wands ‘Hekate’2Wands.jpg.a4b0dada1e60bdef4d757faf7f223769.jpg

My favorite type of reading is the evaluation of options.  Because my mind is sharp and clear and devoid of attachment to sentiment and to the past, I can shine a clear light forward.  If you need to make a decision, if you are standing at a crossroads in your life, then call upon me.  The great Goddess Hekate is here to bring clear direction.  Only call upon me if you are prepared to take decisive action.  My guidance will be unerring and true.

Pleasure is the open sesame to entering my world.  Revel in the release of sensual giving and receiving.  Approach me with an openness to experience the full depths of sensations that life has to offer.  Prepare for our communion together by loading up your altar with offerings that celebrate all of the senses.  When you indulge yourself, you indulge me.  Together we can open and explore a pleasure gateway that will enrich your world and expand your consciousness.

6. What lesson are you here to share with me right now?  Four of Pentacles ‘Sphinx’4Pentacles.jpeg.a43d3ea37475cf117c2d74d54a3a0128.jpeg

I am encouraging you to accept your fate.  Realistically evaluate who you are, where you are, and what gifts you have come into this lifetime to share with others.  I am giving you permission — and I granting you an opportunity to redefine yourself.  Rather than feeling bound by certain perceived limitations, you can find the way to turn your situation around.  Within the parameters of what is, you can find a structure that with the application of a fresh mind and creativity can allow you to triumph and succeed in new ways.  Treasure your talents and your resources.  Use them to the fullest while you are here in this body in this lifetime.
