Tarot Netivot and Astrology Entering Tammuz 5784
Comments and Questions are welcome.
The Wheel of the Jewish Calendar makes a major shift as we leave the month of Sivan and enter the month of Tammuz represented by Major Arcana card IIII Eim ‘Mother’ on July 7, 2024. The second decan of Cancer began on July 1.
The bottom row, representing the Jewish calendar according to the Tarot Netivot system now features Major Arcana card III for the new month; and the 8 of Cups Shmitah ‘Retreat/Sabbatical’ for the beginning of the week of Rosh Chodesh the New Moon July 3.
The middle cards are animal, crystal, and plant correspondences according to T. Susan Chang in the book Tarot Correspondences. These are tied to the Major Arcana cards as they appear in Tarot Netivot representing each Jewish month, Jewish holidays, and major lunar and solar events as well in the Western Hermetic Major Arcana in the top rows. These cards are taken from various decks in my collection. New additions: bee, pigeon, swallow, copper, turquoise, clover, apple, strawberry, and corn.
There are three overlaps of correspondences between the two systems for this period: Rabbit, Emerald, and Cypress.
“ In many myths and legends, Rabbits act as guides between Heaven, the Earth, and The Underworld. They’re a potent emblem of Shamanic journeys and may even be called upon to monitor those rituals. In fact, when viewing the Rabbit’s physical attributes, the creature comes to represent a prayerful life as it puts its paws in prayer position each time it washes its face. … “In the Earth Plane Rabbit is a sound navigator, having perceptions that pilot it through the darkness. Because of this, Rabbit represents Sensitives, Seers, and their psychic powers.” —Excerpt From Wisdom of the Wild Ones - The Complete Book of Animal Spirit Guides by Bernadette King
Benebell Wen references the Emerald Tablet in the Book of Maps. Emerald is the stone traditionally associated with Hermes. The Emerald Tablet is a compact and cryptic Hermetic text that was a highly regarded foundational text for many Islamic and European alchemists. Legend has it that the Emerald Tablet was found in a caved tomb beneath the Statue of Hermes in Tyana, clutched in the hands of the interred body of Hermes Trismegistus. The Egyptian God Thoth is attributed to be the creator of the Emerald Tablet.
Cypress trees carry symbolic meanings from various cultures worldwide. Cypress is associated with immortality, the journey of the soul, transformation and renewal It carries the aura of mourning and melancholy and is the tree of Hades, the God of the Underworld.
The top line features Tarot cards as they relate to today’s Western Hermetic Astrology using primarily the Tabula Mundi Tarot Silver Edition by M.M. Melleen. This works with the Solar Calendar. These are the correspondences that Benebell Wen uses when working with the SKT and astrology.
The bottom line features Tarot cards as they relate to the Hebrew calendar according to Tarot Netivot. I am using the Lurianic Tarot by Basilikon — one of the few truly Jewish Tarot decks out there and certainly one of the most beautiful; and the hand painted Illuminated Tarot Starlight Rainbows edition by Carol Herzer. This works with the Lunar Calendar.
Existing cards will be exchanged with new incoming cards as the wheel of time turns. Lunar phases change every 3 - 4 days; decans change every 10 days. Months change every 28 - 31 days. Note: I am working with 2 different systems to mark the months, one solar and the other lunar. I shall try to post a new board every time there is significant movement.
