I would have loved to have gone but we're travelling to a wedding that weekend! ☹️

I only own and (occasionally) use one deck where one card is missing. It's the Hanged Man. As a substitute I use the cover card that was left (you know those with deck title on it). So the message of the Hanged Man could get through. Of course one can read with an incomplete deck – but why? Because it's hard to declare a thoughtful and beautiful gift as useless? I hope this doesn't sound rude but I think that's the crux. If you fell for the deck's charm (understandably, it's one of my favourite Lenormand decks) drop me a line and I may be able to get you a replacement.

I'm not an experienced Lenormand reader ...although I own several decks and occasionally try a reading. As you say, the previous owner seems to have removed two 'dark' cards ...Coffin and Scythe...for a reason. Maybe afraid of the idea or symbols of death? Fair enough—although they passed the deck along to a new owner, so maybe the altered deck didn't work for them very well. I believe any deck (Tarot, Lenormand, Kipper, Oracle) takes on whatever vibe you, the reader, put into it. So, by all means, give it a try without the two cards, as you still find the deck has lovely energy. See how you get on. If you feel the deck tells you what you need to know without those two cards, then the altered deck works for you. 🙂 If you sense the deck is missing out on vital aspects of a reading, then maybe just retire it? Or see if you can replace the cards in some way? It's your deck now, and you don't need to absorb the fears of the previous owner. As to working with incomplete decks, I have been known to occasionally remove all the court cards from a tarot deck before doing a reading. This removes the references to actual people or personal characteristics, and sometimes simplifies the reading for me. (I don't do this often at all, by the way ...but occasionally.) Cards are a tool; how you use that tool is up to you.

I have been gifted a vintage Lenormand (this: http://spielkartenonline.de/product.php?id_product=3305) with cards 8 and 10 missing. The deck has a lovely energy to it and I’d like to use it. So I’ve been thinking what to do about the missing cards. My first thought was to recreate or otherwise add the two cards, but then I decided it was the ‘fate’ of the deck to be read without Scythe and Coffin. The previous owner took them out for a reason, adding the cards now would disturb the energy of the deck for me. I’m not a confident Lenormand reader and certainly not someone who would do a grand tableau, but, obviously, the deck will speak differently without those two cards. Does anyone else read with incomplete decks?

Ha ha! I enjoy your sense of humour. It just wants to feel things and eat grapes. But yeah. It's hard not to see the Empress and the Emperor as totally divergent energies. They both seem so immersed in their separate roles. I wonder if they can interact with each other at all. Is there any modicum of cooperation or understanding between them? 'Just you wait till your father gets home!' 'I'll let your mother deal with that.'

That is the impression I got too! I think I may give this oracle a chance. What about the book? Is it any good? Uh-oh, why? Due to theme or imagery? If you don't mind sharing, of course!

I was re-reading the classic premise of John Gray’s 1992 book, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, and I had a lightbulb moment. Did Gray secretly steal his whole book concept from a Rider-Waite deck, or was he just channeling major Tarot energy? His whole thesis is that men and women speak such vastly different emotional "languages" that we might as well be from different planets. Sound familiar? Look at our favorite Major Arcana power couple: The Empress (Venus): Living her absolute best life on a cozy velvet couch, surrounded by nature, flowing gowns, and good vibes. She looks like she just got back from a 5-star spa retreat. The Emperor (Mars): Sitting on a rock throne wearing full plate armor in the middle of a desert, looking like he's about to declare war on a parking ticket. Honestly, whenever The Emperor pops up in a love reading, I never know whether to say "congratulations" or "I'm so sorry." Talk about high-maintenance, rigid energy! If we look at them through a psychological lens: The Empress is the Subconscious: She’s pure feeling, creativity, and flow. But let’s be real—the subconscious is a chaotic artist. It doesn't care about your Google Calendar or whether you have bills to pay; it just wants to feel things and eat grapes. The Emperor is the Conscious Defense System: He’s the stubborn security guard of your brain, building rigid walls and boundaries to keep the chaos out. Without the Emperor, life is a boundary-free emotional hot mess. But without the Empress, life is a cold, boring military drill where fun goes to die. Honestly, I now can't unsee them bickering over whose turn it was to load the dishwasher!

Yes @Tanga they all are, but the Major Arcana are the paths on the Tree of Life—meaning the steps you need to take. That’s what makes them stand out. They don't just help you achieve what you want; they also guide you.

@Darrell I will definitely keep you posted for when the deck arrives and I have a chance to 'try' it. I do hope it's easy to shuffle and handle. I have too many decks with imagery that I love, but the card stock and /or size is problematic. I want to just be able to USE this deck straight out of the box. If you think about 'godmother' and how the concept differs from 'mother,' it can throw up a lot of new ideas for the Empress card. A godmother is somebody who has agreed to look after the welfare of a young person, to offer assistance if they get into difficulty, to support them emotionally if they need support, and possibly to give them gifts (both physical gifts on certain occasions and the gift of opportunity and potential, if they can. A godmother is a woman whom the god-child can petition if they need a boost, but who is not legally obligated to raise them. A FAIRY godmother is all I mentioned, plus she has powers beyond the human sort. That is in keeping with The Empress being more a force of nature than a human being who bears children. The concept of magical powers working on behalf of the god-child can certainly add to weight of The Empress card. A reversed Empress can indicate the absence of these qualities, or the reversal of the qualities. The reversed Empress may use her powers (human or supernatural) to deliberately cause trouble for the god-child. Lots to explore. Sometimes The Empress, as traditionally seen, can feel a bit vague to me, if she's not directly connected to fertility or creativity ...or 'mom.' This fairy godmother aspect opens up more ways to interpret the card.

So... @Marina it is indeed quite Susan-Seddon-Bulet ish. And... I like it! There are a couple of cards I don't like (don't know why yet) which I may omit from the deck... or, change my mind, once I've studied them more closely. And the card stock is thin for the pocket version, which is what I have. But I will very happily use this easily an an oracle.

I just got this new oracle deck by Alana Fairchild titled Lightworker Oracle. It’s really beautiful. This deck will be great for light workers, healers, starseeds, etc. The guidebook includes invocations for each card, too. Here are some of my favorites so far:

That’s such a great depiction — the fairy godmother fits her energy really well, and reversed as the Sleeping Beauty fairy is a perfect contrast. I took a moment to look up Lisa Hunt’s deck after reading your reply, and seeing the Empress card in context makes your description even better. It’s a really interesting take on her, and I’m glad you mentioned it. I’d love to hear what you think of the deck once it arrives and you’ve had a chance to work with her version of the Empress.

Up till the moment my brain had its little philosophical fart, I would always say the 10 of Swords is a 'duration' card. Upright: bad times have reached their worst and will start to improve; reversed: there is still more bad stuff to come. However, the ORIGIN of the bad stuff has now come into play. Bad times deliberately caused by other people, versus random events? I'll see how that idea works in an actual reading.

@gregory if you select the text and use the T crossed out. I think that is the remove formatting now. Hopefully it will remove font? or select the default font on the font menu @geoxena You can choose fonts now, go on the .... menu on the text box. Just please make it still readable to the members 🤣 They have really worked on the input box with new better features in this version I think. There are lots of useful new things.

We recently discussed the person cards in Celine's thread in which I also posted a link to a video by Donna Leigh. Her notion of a ”different influence independent of gender” is reverberating anew. The man alone could have reprented AI – the coffin just made it clear to me (that's why I love those descriptor cards!).

I had a thought about the 10 of Swords the other day. I see the suit of Swords as 'action,' (as well as thoughts,) so could it be that the 'ruin' exemplified by the 10 of Swords is deliberately brought about by the actions of another person or people? Not to make folks paranoid or anything, but it seems easy to compare the card to Death. But if you see Death as a natural ending of an event, situation, or person ...maybe the 10 of Swords is an end intentionally caused by the actions of another person or group. (Group might be implied by the number of swords stuck in the person's back.) In other words, the 10 of Swords may not indicate misfortune, so much as betrayal? I do buy into the notion that it indicates things have reached their lowest point, and I also believe the reversed card indicates the pain will still go on for a while and has not ended yet. It's the cause of the pain or ruin that has given me food for thought.

I'd say, in my own experience, if Death appears at the start of a reading (first card, etc) it means it's a starting point. Whatever 'was' will not return. It's also there to inform the reader that the event (whatever it was) IS actually done. The cards that follow in the reading are about what happens next. Death refers, most often, to something the seeker is aware has gone. It's just confirmation that it's gone for good. I use reversals when reading, most of the time. If Death appears reversed as one of the cards in my spread, I would probably read it as something that needs to go (or is on its way out) but is still there. Either the seeker is clinging to something they need to let go of, or something is taking an interminable amount of time to wind down. The remaining cards should give a clue as to what will happen next. In the few times that Death refers to an actual death of a living being, it usually comes as no great surprise ...unless the card is accompanied by other cards indicating shock, etc. However, it can certainly refer to an expected death, or in the case of a reversed card, can mean a death that is expected, but hasn't happened yet. As in all readings, the surrounding cards give you information that will be useful.

Wow, I've never seen that option! And believe me, I looked for it because I prefer choosing my fonts on forums, but I only seen the ability to use bold, italics, etc., but not the ability to choose fonts for my posts. I wonder if that was for paid members only?

I love that combo for AI. What else could represent it except a 'person' card in a box... and a coffin at that since there's no life, as you said. (For me, either because I don't read with it regularly or my brain works better with tarot, I almost always struggle with which of the possible meanings to go with. Even though I only use one method that I learned years ago, and I think it's a great method, there's still the question of whether to take things in their metaphorical sense like a loss, or literal meaning, like a box. When I read with tarot, I just know (or at least feel that I know) which aspect of the card to go with in combination. With Lenormand, these sorts of brilliant pairs don't occur to me, and if I had drawn Man and Coffin myself, I probably would never have made the connection like you did.)

Just a question here. In the posting box there used to be a button for "default font". There's no way now to choose a font, and so if I write up a post in Word and copy-paste, it keeps the font I was using in Word. If I try "posting as plain text" it still keeps the Word font - I have to remember to switch to the forum font in Word before pasting. I know invision HAS the facility to switch to the forum default as it's still there on my other invision forum where this button: is for "remove format". No BIGGIE but we had something like that before the update.....
