This talk is over 2 hours but it is one that I think we all need to listen to. I am currently still listening to it and digesting everything. I really appreciate the opportunity to learn more.

I just read a mention of NWTS on a different thread and wondered about it. I went in 2019 and 2020 ... I wanted to go this year but I had just moved house and things were too topsy turvy to get away. This was the first year with the new owners. How was it? What did you like best or least? Was it similar to past years or different?

Pretty much everyone seems to agree that a Tarot reading isn't going to give you the next winning lottery numbers, or the name of the horse that will win today's race, or the closing price for XYZ stock on Wednesday next week. If that's true, then what, exactly, does the Tarot tell you about the future? I think it works this way: Events seem to flow as a sort of continuum, with the past seen as effecting the present, and the present thought to have some influence on the future. So, by examining the present, and coming to see it from different perspectives, expectations for the future may be focused, and the scope of those expectations may be narrowed. Based on such…

So i was doing a spread related to places and i thought that this would be a good idea for a topic. I've seen people doing cards as people or as music but didn't see this one yet. So how do you see a certain card as a place or types of places? I'll start, so i choose Six of cups: •A place that is familiar to the person and that the person created a lot of memories on. It can be the place they grew up as a child or the place that their family/ loved ones reside. Or places they used to feel safe. •It can also be a place that is good to raise children. •A place that has a supportive net (of neighbous/ people that care for you). •A peaceful …

I was having a conversation with a friend about tarot decks that follow no system, if the images didn't have a number or title, one would never know what the card was supposed to be (I see this often in theme decks). Decks that are more like an oracle to me, but just numbered like tarot. He said he doesn't need a system or titles, he interprets them himself. I found this really interesting as I have yet to find an oracle (honestly haven't looked really hard, but would like to find an oracle I can work with) I can work with and decks that don't follow a system, to me are basically oracles, you use your intuition. I KNOW some oracles have a book and descript…

Do you reshuffle and pull new cards? Flip the reversed cards upright? Do you apply some larger meaning to the spread (for instance, I've heard it said that when all cards are reversed it signifies an internal conflict on the part of the querent, or that it means somebody is moving)? Other?

I don't know if there is already an active thread discussing/studying birth year cards. If there is, could someone please point me to it? If not, I'd like to start one. (This one right here, if here is appropriate, or in another section of the Forum if that makes more sense.) Again, please advise! I was unfamiliar with birth year cards until recently. I just computed mine at https://labyrinthos.co/blogs/learn-tarot-with-labyrinthos-academy/how-to-calculate-your-tarot-birth-card-plus-short-birth-card-meanings-infographic and I couldn't be more blown away!

Tarot & Boxes When it comes to buying or, if say, a person was a collector: A Does a Tarot deck devalue a lot if there isn't any box. B Devalue somewhat if the box has signs of shelf wear or any light wear and tear. Eg Discoloration/Scratches. C Does not lose value if all the cards are there in perfect condition. Box or No box. Been wondering this for a wee while... DND X/

Since the first time I got in touch with the tarot cards, I understood (kinda) the extrapolation between the figures and chapters in life, but also had the tendency of associating the figures with real persons I met in real life, don't know exactly why I did that. For example, I thought of death as someone that killed a friend of mine from the old neighbourhood accidentally in a car accident, the devil as a former boss who tried to scam me etc.. Do you also have a similar way of thinking? Or do you think of something completely different when you see the cards?

So I was doing my daily tarot spread to become better at reading cards. I've bought the meaning booklet that goes with my deck to get a better understanding. So the reading was a simple two card spread about me looking at what I need to work on today kinda like shadow work. I got the Queen of Wands reversed and the King of Wands upright. My booklet defined the Queen as being a symbol of me feeling overwhelmed by burdens and made a note to mention that the card reversed usually symbolizes something triggering long term trauma. I understood that quickly. Right before I sat down to meditate I was flooded of memories of how in high school I was being groomed…

Hi all. This sub has been helpful thus far! I am ill (I keep drawing the Ten of Swords, which means I have reached my limit) so while I rest, I seek to grow always, I personally do believe God (Divine etc) speaks to us in different ways, and Tarot may be one of them for some of us. (first post on this page today was about that...synchronicity? maybe) I have on very rare occasions experienced prophetic visions in prayer, but I think the Tarot may be another valid and more nuanced way of receiving advice. For instance, I asked about help in careers. I drew the Three of Cups. Not understanding it, I asked for clarification and drew the Three of Pentacles. By themse…

Ok, here's a slightly from leftfield and lighthearted question 😊 For those readers who have pets, do you find that they are sensitive to, or react to, when you do readings? I just did my first proper, serious, sit down reading for my partner (he greatly respects the tarot however has been hesitant about getting a proper reading from me until now). One of our cats, who is particularly attached to him, started to behave quite unusually when I was doing the reading. She wouldn't stop staring at me, was meowing at me constantly, and was trying to climb on to the reading cloth and the cards. She wasn't cross at all and was blinking at me (a cat 'love' s…

I haven't gotten one since March, and I'm trying to work out if they've somehow disappeared into my junk folder or if Cathy hasn't written one for a few months.

I'm not talking about throwing down three cards for a quick past-present-future or anything like that, I'm talking about larger spreads we pre-defined positions. Right now I've got three that I'm comfortable with: the celtic cross, which I use if the question is focused on insight or understanding, Rachel Pollack's Work Cycle, which I use if the question is about "how do I get ..." or something like that, and a relationship spread I picked up in this forum. ;D I am working on my improvising around the spread. For example, I did a celtic cross for a friend last night and ended up, after we worked through it, pulling it down except for the outcome and possible outco…

I have tried a few decks along with their little white books. The RWS is nice, but maybe not my thing. I like the clear images on the Swiss deck, but the readings have been .....strange. I have also tried the Scarabeo "Ancient Italian" deck, which I understand is similar to the Soprafino. I liked the deck when I first opened it, but was a bit underwhelmed by all the typos in the English translation in the book at first (e.g. "the fool" as trump 1 is actually the Magician, thankfully I know a thing or two about the other languages in the book too). I also noticed that the book gives reverse interpretations of only the Major Arcana, which I guess is OK in a pip deck. …

Recently I started a small tarot business as I have been practicing on my own for some time and am trying to make some money before moving out. So it’s been about two weeks and I’ve had three readings I’ve done now for three separate people where I start to get a lot of anxiety out of no where. I’m not sure if it’s just me or if I’m picking up on their energy because they’ve all been trauma readings with the exception of one which was for a girl asking if she’d get back with her ex soon. So I’m a little concerned as to why this anxiety is coming out of nowhere and if it’s something that I should or shouldn’t be experiencing during readings. Any insight would be appreciate…

When I read for myself I feel confident that I and the cards both know what and who we are taking about, and the answers come out coherent to my situation. But when I read for others it seems I might just be reading for myself again... I've read for myself countless times but only read a handful of times for friends. I was never able to feel sure that the answers matched their situation, and twice it actually seemed obvious that the cards ended up referring to my situation, not theirs. When I read for others I think about them and their questions. I've tried letting them shuffle and cut, or shuffling myself letting them cut. The querents have all been my frie…

I remember back in the 90s that I spent a lot of time on the alt.tarot usenet group and as I'm trying to piece together my broken history with the cards, I would love to be able to dig up my old posts and comments... However, I can find only 2 under my name on Google's archive. I'm sure I wrote many more and would love to get hold of them, especially a run-in with the infamous J Karlin... Can anyone suggest other ways to dig up my not-so-sordid past?

I only see one post in this forum that refers to the song "Stairway to Heaven". Has anyone else here given much thought to the lyrics and how they may be related to the Tarot? I see it as a journey through the Major Arcana - generally in order, from The Fool to The World.
