Hullo! I am brand new to this space so I hope I am posting in the proper area. If not, my apologies to the mods and I defer to them to move this wherever they see fit.

But on to my dilemma: I was able to purchase a used copy of the Truth Seeker's deck -  yes, the one with the gold foil - for a super reasonable price, but upon arrival, I discovered that the deck was missing the entire 22 cards of the Major Arcana! Sob!

I have since emailed the seller in hopes that she just forgot to put the cards in the box, but in case she hadn't, what do you advise I do? The way I see it, here are my options:

a. Use the deck without the Major Arcana (is this even possible?)

b. Buy a copy of the more available Wisdom Seeker's deck and combine that one's Major Arcana with the Truth Seeker's minors (I was planning on trimming and edging anyway, but I know the backs won't match)

c. Try to find another copy of the Truth Seeker's, effectively making this deck purchase more than I was willing to go for

d. Insist on a refund, return the TS and either purchase a complete copy of the WS or just buy another deck altogether

Thanks for reading and for any help you may offer. I hope to be a less high maintenance part of this community in the future. :)

ebay? share the listing please? I've gotten excited and bought stuff without reading the whole listing. the book only for the Greenwood tarot for instance, twice thinking I was buying the deck, only to have my way-too-eager hopes dashed, 🙂 If you got what was advertised you can use the minors for a playing card deck. If it was advertised as a complete deck, if the seller is non-communicative you can get your money back via paypal if you paid that way.

Give us more info, we'd be better able to give some guidance. but speed is of the essence when dealing with unsatisfactory on-line purchases.

Here's the listing link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/164253694867

I hope that works because it's off my purchase history now since I started a return. Have not yet heard from the seller, but as you can see, it did say "complete set" in the listing.

And thanks for the welcome! Super pumped to be here!

eBay? 'Nuff said. I've made some great purchases off eBay. And I've bought a lot of duds. I have bought many "complete decks" off eBay that were missing cards (but never the whole set of Majors!). And when I reached out to the seller, the answer I invariably got was that they didn't know much about tarot and assumed the set was complete. 😠😲😖🙄 (and not necessarily in that order) Because the seller said complete and it wasn't, you are entitled to a refund. I would think  that a seller with almost 2500 reviews with 100% positive feedback would a) do a little more research and b) admit they made a mistake and accept the item back.

There are a number of spreads that call for separating the Majors from the Minors (and some even further separate out the Courts from the Minors). So, you could use the Majors from another deck or a Majors-only deck along with the Truth Seekers Minors. But the seller should make the purchase right by either sending the missing cards or accepting a return (on their dime since they messed up).

Oooh, I didn't even know about non-Majors spreads! In that case, I think I'll just move on and won't worry about it. If she makes it right, it'll be icing on the cake since I realize now I got a pretty good deal on the deck, box and book and minors and all. I want to put only good vibes out into the Universe after all. 🙂

Yes you can use it without the majors. You shouldn't have to, though. You have recourse, as the sellers said it was complete. Yo can raise it with them as "item is not as advertised." It doesn't matter if they say they didn't know - the book is there and shows the majors, so they don't have a leg to stand on. They should at least give you some of your money back, even if you want to move on.

I do believe the Wisdom Seeker's Tarot (easily available) is exactly the same.... As is his Pathfinder's

eBay can be pretty brutal to sellers once returns are request so hopefully you should get your refund sorted out. But it's always a shame and a bit disappointing when these things happen.

Hope you get it sorted out. K

Just to clarify, the cards in the Truth-Seeker's are 66 mm x 120 mm (roughly Lo Scarabeo size) while the cards in the Pathfinders are 87 mm x 148 mm. I don't have the Wisdom Seeker's, so don't know the size of those cards.

Oh, thank you! Good to know! I was about to go on a hunt for the Pathfinder seeing as how it's got the same back as the Truth Seeker's but I dug up and found that the easier-to-find and more economical Wisdom Seeker's is its same size. I think I'll give the seller till Tuesday to respond then just grab a copy of WS from Amazon to complete the deck.

It sounds like you are feeling better now! I have zero doubt your purchase price will be refunded, although you may be required to return what you have.

Ebay, and Amazon's marketplace sellers, are mostly just thee and me sort of individuals, and as Rodney said, a lot of us are selling stuff we don't know anything about. Non-knowledgeable deck sellers often say 78 cards, without knowing there are 2 of something and none of something else for instance.

When I list decks on Ebay or here I always order them first so I know all the cards that should be there, are.

Something you always want to do when you receive a deck, because even new sealed decks can be missing cards or have damaged or misprinted cards.
