tarotbyalice Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 So, this is a general discussion. The sun, the general interpretation is usually about positivity, success, a "yes" to our life, etc. However, do anyone came across where the sun also indicates short term interest? For example, during a career reading, the sun shows up. I know that it will have good prospective and generally it will bring success to ourselves, but does it also indicate that from the other point of view we will only have passion and goodness for a short period of time? In short, it hints that sustainability is not there?
EmpyreanKnight Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 By its lonesome, short-term happiness is one of the possible meanings of the Sun card when it is reversed. It can also be indicated when it is paired or if it appears in combination with certain other cards. The Sun + 8 of Wands can mean that you will enjoy a burst of great luck soon, but that it would only be fleeting, so that the querent must try to capitalize on it while she can. Easy come, easy go. The Sun + 3 of Wands Reversed can also mean that the querent is free to enjoy himself in the moment, but that sooner or later he has to leave the party, recharge, and then attend to important matters. The Sun in the Present position and The Tower in the Future - well, you already know what that means.
Trogon Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 The sun can be a tricky card in the rare occasions where I've seen it in readings. The thing about the Sun is that yes, it gives life and joy, but if you get too much of it you get burned. It can help plants grow, but if all they get is Sun, they wilt and die. As EmpyreanKnight said, a lot of how to interpret The Sun has to do with which position it's in and what other cards are around it. I would add another "what-if" to EK's; The Sun paired with the 10 of Wands might mean that things are going to start out great, fun, exciting and so on - but that the project, job, relationship will soon seem to become burdensome.
Esk Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Yes, by itself I've often see the sun comes up for short term things. You spend a joyful, beautiful moment, but the sun can't last and has to be replaced by something else. The way I see it, is that it's too nice and too strong to last. Actually it's a card I prefer to see in daily draws or when i ask about special events, like a party or a family meeting. As others have said other cards can also gives clues of interpretation. Once I had tower + sun for a love reading. Shortly after I met someone i completly fell in love with. It was the most beautiful love story of my life. After meeting him my readings often showed me the sun + knight of wands or 8 of wands. And guess what, it doesn't last more than 3 months ;) For me it's still a good card, but it's not a stable one. I prefer to see pentacles for that, no matter the topic. For example the sun + 10 of pentacles for me would be a great combo for a more lasting happiness.
Trogon Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 A few days ago I finished my notebook page on The Sun, primarily the card in the RWS deck. I noticed something that I don't believe I had before. In the RWS image, we see an ecstatically happy child on the back of a pony ... the child is as happy as he can be, but the pony doesn't really look very happy. Just a small thing that seemed appropriate to this discussion.

Yea, perhaps it relates to what Esk has mentioned, the Sun is beautiful and nice, but it can't last. Just like what we have everyday, the sun is comfortable in the morning, as it reaches noon it will become hot and unbearable.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 children are generally featured on the sun card. I see the sun as a positive, but... perhaps childish? Or naive? perhaps not fully formed positive. There is always more work to do to maintain a positive outcome/life
