Cora Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Hello, Lately, I been curious about tarot reading. Okay, more like how do each individuals read the cards? Or more like what is your method? Since no person read the same. Personally, I have to describe the image as well the colors to answer the person question. Hm, does intuitive counts? If not, than sticking to the pretty picture 🤣
ImaginaryFriend Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Hi Cora. Intuition absolutely counts! I read in a similar way - I use the image on the card to find a deeper meaning than the standard textbook interpretation. Like you said, no two people read the same way, so go with whatever works for you.
TheVoid Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 The imagery and intuition usually, although for some readings that are a bit different so to speak I may look up the entire spectrum of meanings. Realitically if the art is detailed enough it helps a lot. The deck i used was bought for me by a family member when I was still basically a kid. The imagery is somewhat bland, but still telling. With the number of different meanings per card and how they work with each other makes me often double check my reading just to make sure I wasn't too blindly following intuition. Usually one look at the cards and one can tell if things will be good, bad, or both, but digging down further and finding out why, to what extent, and how to help it, definitely requires further attention. Intuition is my way, but as stated I check back on complex /mixed signal readings because i fear my intuition may be off sometimes...
E55ence Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 I work with intuition a lot. I usually get the right meaning (well, the one I believe it's the right one...) right away. If I have to think too much about the sense of a reading, it means I'm doing that wrong, perhaps I'm not as focused or as objective as I need to be. And it gets messy.
Buckake Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 One technique I really like is the "so what?" technique. Essentially I pick an aspect in the iconography of the card and ask "so what?" until I get to a point that brings some clarity with it. 6 of wands for example. He's riding with others.. So what? So probably he has people around him right now.. So what? So he feels he is supported.. So what? So he can probably find strength and motivation by working as a part of a group.. So what? So maybe he should seek out people with similar goals to him. If that already is the case then he is right on track. And that feels like a point that makes sense and can tie in to the rest of the reading.
Caenna Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 I assigned a one-to-two word key word for each Card and start with that as my foundation, and since I work with more than one deck the individual art work is also important. But I also work heavily with both the numbers and the suites - are there multiple 5's? Zero or only 1 Cup? Where do the Majors fall in relation to the position within the Spread? Also - for me, Pages represent lessons to learn, and Knights represent actions to take/not take.
TheLoracular Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 For me it is a mix of techniques. Since September, I have been reading and write a lot about the individual cards in the specific decks I plan to use for the next year. Keywords of the Thoth-style decks help a lot, the images and colors and things I've read and written help a lot but there's always some intuition and just a "knowing" when I turn up a certain card in specific position in a spread and sometimes, it just comes seemingly out of nowhere. I always use spreads with distinct positions, each one intended to provide specific type of information. Besides drawing a single card to represent the day or to use for research or meditation, I only do spreads with 3-5 cards these days. This is a personal style thing. I have very bad fibromyalgia with fatigue and brain fog. It hits at random. 3-5 is the perfect amount of cards for me to be able to keep focus on and keeps readings (including journaling about the reading or looking up resources for card to help me process) to a half hour or so.
