Hi there. This is gonna sound a little bit out there, but my name is Thomas Edward Waite. My father's name was Martin Edward Waite. His father was called George Edward Waite, and his father was called John Edward Waite.  We have a tradition of giving the eldest son the middle name Edward. Why this is, no one has been able to tell me, but im sure there must be a reason. The family tree stops at John. There is not a lot of history been passed down orally between generations: my father Martin had an extremely distant relationship with his father George, and the relationship between George and John was even worse. It is my opinion that Arthur Edward Waite is my great great grandfather. If he was in a cult, presumably he would have had offspring. Potentially any love children could have been given his name and sent away to live elsewhere. If you look at photos down the generations, there is a very strong family resemblance. There is also a very strong academic intellect going down the family line. I've no idea what to do about this. I did manage to make contact with an American who was a definite proven descendant of General Benjamin Waite, who was i believe, Arthur Edward's great uncle, so I don't suppose some kind of DNA test is possible. I was interested to know if Arthur's daughter Sybil had any living descendants. But i would have thought the information would be readily available if this was the case. Any advice would be appreciated, because if i could prove my family line to be true, i would have thought there would be many people interested in meeting AEW's living descendants. And myself and my sister Chloe both have a very strong interest in the Tarot. Anyone's thoughts on the matter would be most welcome. I will post some photos when i get some decent ones, they are all at my aunt's at the moment (all the Edward Waites above me in the family tree are now sadly deceased).

You could try contacting this Bickle guy: https://www.geni.com/people/A-E-Waite/6000000045396207874#name=Arthur Edward Waite?

And a DNA test will identify fairly distant relations. I'm always getting mails from 23&me saying they found more "3rd to 5th cousins".

But that said, I think you're building this up in your head too much. I don't think anyone would be very interested unless you had family stories, Waite's personal papers, etc.

welcome to the forum! I've learned over time and from the cards, who I am rather than who I'm from is more key to the way I live my life 🙂

Do poke around the forum, join in, we relish new voices to blend with the old.

Just want to add, if you load your family tree into Geni, they're doing a free trial thing where they tell you how you're connected to people.

The thing is, we're very distantly connected to a LOT of people. Most of the famous people you search for will show a connection, which is tantalizing. But with the free trial, you can see HOW you're connected. And not necessarily really related! I just got "Aleister Crowley is your third cousin 15 times removed's wife's 7th great nephew's wife's great grandson." 🤣

It's pretty thorough, if nothing else, lol. Welcome!

Hey guys, thanks for your kind response. Sorry if my post sounded a little big headed or delusional. When I next see my aunt I'll get some decent quality photos up of my Waite ancestors. I think sadly the American guy I contacted who is a direct descendant of Arthur Edward would have to be my 8th cousin, if he were my great great grandfather- so I'm not sure if a DNA test would work.

But thanks for the lead on Alex Bickle - I think I've tried messaging him before but I'll persevere and try him again

I don't think it came off like that at all. More like heavily invested in a specific outcome. Just didn't want you to set yourself up that way.

It would catch that. I get DNA relatives like this turning up all the time. OK, this one is a 5th cousin - but the common ancestor is likely a great great great great grandparent.
