rursable Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Hi from Seattle, just purchased my first deck last week and curious about tarot! My interest in tarot comes and goes, my mom, when she's still around, really thought I have the talent to be a tarot reader and I don't see it at that time. But she passed away last year, and for some reason my tarot interest came back and now I'm willing to learn more. I'm a generally positive person, I'll take any input and would love to make new friends here! Excited to learn more!
Decan Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 Hello and welcome @rursable, good journey with Tarot!

katrinka Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 Hi rursable! People in Seattle are saying "y'all" now? I thought the wet coast said "you guys" and the east coast said "alla yas" or, in NY, "youse". 😁 Welcome!

Seattleites don't usually say ya'll so you're right, some of us do just cause, such as myself 😁 Looking forward to get familiarize with the forum and tarot!
katrinka Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Ah, you like to be different! So do I - I'm in central Texas and I'm something of an anomaly among Texans. Have a look around, make yourself at home, and holler if you have any questions. (OK, I said "holler" - but I do NOT wear cowboy hats!) What deck did you get?
vulprix Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 (edited) Hi @rursable!! Welcome to the forum 🙂 I adopted “y’all” on purpose, myself. Grew up in a Chicago suburb, but one of my best friends is from Texas. Her “y’all” was so pretty I had to cop it. I think it’s fantastic 😉 I am also curious about your first deck! I wish you many enlightening readings with it! Edited September 23, 2020 by vulprix

Incidentally I do own a cowboy hat, but didn't quite wear it very often 🙃 I got the good old Raider Waite, because I think to learn I must start from the gold standard. Work in progress for sure!

I got the Raider Waite and currently considering on writing key words on each card to help me learn, but also don't want to ruin my pretty colorful cards 😬 dilemma!

The Rider Waite is the gold standard for the spinoff, Waite-hased decks, but it's full of blinds that Waite put in to obscure the s00per seKrit things of his Madjiqueel Order. Crowley came along later and spilled the beans. Those two didn't get along so well. But either one will work!

Wow this is why I'm so glad I joined a forum, soooo many good infos. Does anyone mind to explain to me the difference between oracle cards and tarot? Where do one begin? I haven't memorize all 78 cards so I'm not really looking to tackle on oracle as well, not now at least lol
katrinka Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 The "oracle" in oracle cards is a repurposed word. Most of what gets called "oracle decks" these days aren't oracular at all. They're affirmation decks with reassuring messages like "Your angels are watching over you", or concepts like "creativity", "light" and "healing". Most require no study, but they're very limited in what they can be used for, obviously. Often there are no negative cards. I'm not a fan, lol. And then there are non-Tarot decks that are oracular/predictive and require a good amount of study and practice: Lenormand, Sibilla, Kipperkarten, etc. And the Oracle Belline, which actually does live up to the title. It can be a little confusing. 🙄

And here I thought damn 78 cards is a lotta work 😅 Thank you for taking the time to explain, I'll Google those cards since it seems like I'm home bound for the day with all the rain and wind and folks in Seattle are pretty upset about the verdict this morning in Kentucky. I'm so excited with all these new stuff I gotta learn you guys! Thank you so much @katrinka ❤️
katrinka Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 No problem. And that verdict upsets me, too. I don't even have to hear it. I knew what was coming when the PD declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the outrage.
rursable Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 I'm with you, but I did make the mistake of listening to the whole thing.
katrinka Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I'll make the same mistake in time. I have to work tonight and it's best if I don't go in outraged.
rursable Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 That's a good plan, please stay safe and wear your mask always.
