Kashi Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 I've been looking at the correspondence between tarot and astrology and I have a huge problem. All the majors seem to correspond with thier astrological signs no issue...bit when we get to the minors it becomes a mess. My understanding is that each of the majors represent a either a planet or a zodiac sign. And each zodiac sign has 3 minors it is related to called the deacons. If we look at the emperor card, he is also aries. And that's fine...his deacons are the 2, 3,and 4 of wands. Those 3 correspond to certain planets within aries. Looking at the golden dawn correspondence to those 3 cards and referencing numerous sources on astrology , they all say the same thing in terms of what planets rule those cards/aries deacons. But then we get to the next zodiac sign which is taurus and everything from this point onward makes no sense. The first deacon of taurus in astrology is venus. But the golden dawn which is the five of pentacles is associated with mercury. Second deacon of taurus in astrology is mercury, while the golden dawn (six of pentacles) is the moon in taurus. Does anyone have any idea or any references they can share as to why this is the case. Why didn't they just continue with all the cards according to the actual astrological correspondences instead of changing everything in the minors after aries?? I've been going mad looking for an answer. Please help me!!!
Kashi Posted October 1, 2020 Author Posted October 1, 2020 To add, I'm not referring to a golden dawn tarot themed deck or the actual name of a deck called golden dawn. I'm referring to how the golden dawn decided on what cards would have such and such astrological correspondences.
gregory Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 I think you mean decan ? Just FYI.... Deacons are low ranked ministers in the Christian church.... Just saying. I'd suggest getting hold of Regardie's book, rather than try and look at single card issues. I think you need to understand the whole system. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Golden-Dawn-Teachings-Ceremonies-Llewellyns/dp/0875426638 It is available on line, but as far as I can see, only on questionable sites in terms of copyright. You can borrow the book for an hour from the internet library: https://archive.org/details/goldendawncomple0000rega
fire cat pickles Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 The use of the decans goes far deeper than their astrological meanings. This may be part of the reason they are confusing you. The order of the decans are based on the Chaldean order of the planets, the Planetary Hours and Days: https://www.renaissanceastrology.com/planetaryhoursarticle.html
gregory Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Thanks, pickles - you are far better versed in astrology than I am.
Kashi Posted October 1, 2020 Author Posted October 1, 2020 Thanks. And yes DECANS is what I meant. I just used auto suggestions every time thus the use of the wrong "deacons" Lmao
