I'm going to work my way through Dusty White's The Easiest Way to Learn the Tarot, and study a couple of cards a week.

One deck I'm aiming to add to my collection is Poppy Palin's The Everyday Enchantment Tarot.

(After that, I think my studies will veer towards dowsing and Lenormand.)

No specific plans, other than the usual - pare everything down, be more cartomantic.

I have a bazillion decks with a bazillion methods, but I think if I consolidate some of those, I'll be a more effective reader.

My fondest wish is for Andy Boroveshengra to release his Fortunaes Picturebook this year.

It's what I need. And beyond that, I need nothing.

I'm training myself to go pro. I want to read for others, and I found a Meetup tarot group in my area that has a tarot author in it. They get together to practice at a venue that I may be able to read at.

I brought 365 Tarot Spreads by Sasha Graham, and I'm going to try to work one each day, sort of like a tarot boot camp. I'm going to do readings here and maybe at bookstores as much as I can for practice.

I am gonna do some bullet journaling and will add tarot into that mix.

Also no buying of decks but maybe a few oracles :-D

I am with the Deck of the Week group and will try to steer up my participation there too. Perhaps pick out 4 decks for the next month and not frantically deciding on a whim a day late.

Oh I will clean up my tarot space too. (looks at a pile of laundry and mail on the table and cat toys in the sofa)

At the present time I'm wishing to get some treatment for my 8 yr battle with Depression. As Chris has given me the all clear and encourages me to meanwhile also I wish to become a psychic detective using tarot to help solve crime for both of the living and the dead.

I encourage you to bite-the-bullet and do that asap.  Having suffered myself.

The journey may be long - but worth it to finally get a grip on it for yourself. XXX.

Tanga, is this like a local "club"-type of thing? It sounds like it would be a lot of fun!

Yes - here in the UK - we have "MeetUp" - an online social media thingy where people

who wish to start up groups in their area post advertisements for them.

So - in London presently there are a couple of monthly Tarot MeetUp groups.

I'm aiming specifically for the nights that are for reading practice now...

Hope they fall on my free week nights!  Lol.

On the Lenormand front - I was delighted to discover that the course I'd seen, which I  thought I'd never get to because it was on my Kung Fu club night - has moved to Mondays.

RIGHT - onwards with Lenormand!  ;D ;D  I've booked on it.

It's the penultimate day of 2017. I hope you guys have your Tarot plans for 2018 down pat. :)

Posted

My plans involve convincing my son and grandson to build a Gypsy wagon for me to live in and work out of. I've already drawn up plans for it. I intend to earn my own way like that. Right now I feel somewhat like Anne Frank and although that's okay with my daughter and her beautiful, loving partner, it isn't okay with me.

As for decks, I'm content and feel well-blessed with the ones I have. I haven't let myself yearn for more. It isn't any use. I'm feeling very happy to have gotten a Kindle Fire 7 for Christmas so I can be on the forums again. My laptop died a few months ago.

So far I haven't seen how to tell how current the posts are here so I hope I'm not posting to really old ones.

The only plan I have so far, is to change to another deck. I have used Ciro Marchettis "Divine Tarot" for a year and I have changed deck every New Year for some years now. :)

Usually I feel around midsummer what deck it will be, but this year there's only been some light vibes around "Harmonious  Tarot", so I guess I go with that one! ;)

I bought it in April 2012 and have only looked at it 2-3 times! :o

So I start the New Year with a new friend, I hope! ;D

I know we are almost through the first month of 2018, but my 2018 tarot goals are:

1.  Find a tarot community so I have people to chat tarot with - CHECK  ;D found here at TT&M and signed up.

2.  Finish my Wizard Tarot studies (started in September) by 09/23/18 (a year and a day) ... I am still on track YAY!

3.  Keep up with my Tarot deck of the month and journaling to explore my collection

4.  Add a few tarot decks to my collection (prior to December it had been probably 4 years since I bought a deck), but with moderation.  Not the crazy frenzy of the past.  Just ones that really speak to me.

5.  And my newest goal since I found TT&M, post one deck review a month.

That is a great goal, Jewel!

I look forward to them. :)

I really enjoyed re-reading your review of the Cosmic Tribe; still such a wonderful deck!

Thank you!  You know I still love that deck as much as I did then.  For the last several months I have been working with a different deck for a month, so I am going to start pulling those decks that I have already worked with and journaled with to do reviews on them.  Some I loved .... some not so much.  I am trying to decide which one of those decks I want to review for February.

How are your plans holding, guys?

I did shift my IDS from the RWS to the Thoth last January. So far it's been very productive. :)

Also, I've held firm and I haven't bought any deck at all from the beginning of the year. That was specially hard, but I did it. :D

I noticed that almost all of Lo Scarabeo's pending releases are scheduled for September. Even the release of the Minchiate Etruria in their Anima Antiqua line was delayed until then. I did say that I'm going to end my deck-buying moratorium until my birthday on that month, but is this the Universe's way of telling me something? :P

Seeing that my plan was to actually spend less time on Tarot and more time on my other spiritual practices.... Hrm.

Well, I do think I am spending less time on Tarot, but have not traded that time usefully...  :-[

Here is me checking back in with you EK, here is my status:  ;D

1.  Find a tarot community so I have people to chat tarot with - CHECK  ;D found here at TT&M and signed up.

2.  Finish my Wizard Tarot studies (started in September) by 09/23/18 (a year and a day) - I am still on track to finish by September, but I have gotten a bit distracted.  Will bet getting back in gear this week so that I can finish this early (hopefully???? LOL)

3.  Keep up with my Tarot deck of the month and journaling to explore my collection - I have been doing great with this one, right on target  :)  I extended my work with the Mystic Dreamer through January as December is just not a month I can get much done on a regular basis.  February I explored The Green Witch Tarot  <3 <3 <3, and this month I am working with the Tarot of the Sidhe and actually (aside from my trusty paper journal) started a Tarot Journal here where I have been recording my month with the Tarot of the Sidhe, and will continue to do so with future decks of the month.

4.  Add a few tarot decks to my collection, but with moderation.  Not the crazy frenzy of the past.  Just ones that really speak to me. - So far so good, no regrets with any purchase so far and I have been holding myself back from impulse buys.

5.  Post one deck review a month. - So far so good.  I did bring over the only other review I had written online (Cosmic Tribe), and I have actually exceeded this goal as I have written reviews for Joie de Vivre (January), Mystic Dreamer (January), Tarot of the Sweet Twilight (February), and The Green Witch (March).  I am currently pondering which deck I want to review for April as I have my deck of the month, as well as other decks that I have worked extensively with in the past that I could easily write a review for.  I am kind of leaning towards doing the review for the Wizards Tarot next as I have been working with that deck and book for several months (doing the course from the book) so I have lots to say about it LOL.

So all in all I am right on target with I set myself out to do  ;D

I guess I aimed low, so now I'm feeling pretty good about my Tarot progress. I had said:

My plan is to keep on with the 78 Weeks project, which so far is a great way for me to actually think about what a card means, and to participate in the ISG circle.

I have kept up with my 78 Weeks of study with the Fairytale Tarot and participated several times in the ISG Circle.

In addition, I have participated in the TdM Circle, the Circle of Seasons and the Lunar Group Readings. I have also started a journal in the Daily Draws section.

So yay! :)

I'm happy to have become more ambitious. Tarot-wise, and I hope to keep it up.

Wow Bookworm, you've been very productive on your studies. I've been your partner in two circles this year and I enjoyed our exchanges. Kudos to you!

You're so disciplined, Jewel! Three months on and you're still going strong with your plans. I like your reviews, but I have to be careful when I read them or I might get enabled lol. :)

Thank you EK.  I am not sure if disciplined, but I am certainly "into" my Tarot studies/activities and it just brings me peace.  Thank you for the compliments on the reviews, I see them as an opportunity to share with the community and hopefully give them insight into decks to help them make the right choices for them.  Most of them have been very positive reviews, one somewhat neutral, but I will not shy away from giving my honest opinion when I review decks.  I will mainly review my "deck of the month" after finishing each month with the deck, however there may be times I choose a different deck if I want more time or experience with the deck.

I think everyone is doing a great job with their resolutions  :)

You inspire me to write a few reviews of my own, Jewel. Maybe I will when the old schedule has cleared up some. I just have to be careful not to be too profuse in my praise, especially with the decks that I'm very enamored of. :)

That is wonderful!  I say if a deck merits "profuse praise" to you, then give it that!  ;D  There is nothing wrong with a personal review.  The more people writing reviews the more deck reviews we will have to share with others that might help them choose their new decks or fall in love with others we have had sitting on our bookshelves or in drawers which we never gave the proper time to.  I look forward to reading your reviews.

Next year I wanna get more into indie decks! Over the last year I've really started to understand what I like or don't like in a deck, and I trust my judgement more, so making a bigger investment like an indie deck doesn't seem so scary anymore. The few duds I have in my collection are decks I got when I just started out. All decks I got this year (it ended up being a few :P) are decks I at least like if I don't love them. Littleredtarot has an ok shipping price for Europe and a tempting selection, so I suspect I'll be a faithful customer.

I'd also like to work some more on my intuitive skills and get to know the Thoth better as well as get into the Marseille system, which means more books for me! I love books ;D

I think it's a given for me that if I wanna be serious about the indie decks I won't be buying as many decks as I have this year, and I don't think it's a bad thing for me. I'll be getting less decks but spending a bit more money on each one. There are some decks by larger publishers I'm still very interested in (like the Ben-Dov Marseille deck and the Maria de Celia in a tin), they do make up the bulk of my wishlist after all, but hopefully I can spread it a bit more out and not have an almost barren 1st half of the year and go wild in the 2nd half, like I ended up doing this year :p It really wasn't planned but then it just happened that way.

With the end of March approaching I thought I could look at how I'm doing with these ambitions:

- TdM is not happening yet, still waiting for the Maria de Celia in a tin that is one of my top choices for my first Tdm.

- Thoth is not moving along either. I wanna get some more books for the divinatory use of the Thoth. The one I have (DuQuette) does a good job of explaining the system and how it's built up, but there isn't all that much on the divinatory meanings which I'd love to know more about. But reading books is going slow at the moment and I have many I'd like to get to before even thinking about this Thoth-plan.

- I've only bought 3 decks so far this year (plus one gift) with one of them being an indie deck! So my forray into indies is going ok, same with not buying too many decks. Right now I want to really get to know what I have and it might take a while... but that doesn't bother me all that much to be honest.

-Another ambition I didn't mention here, but I put it in my bullet journal, is to buy more often from the one woo shop in Oslo that sells many tarot decks. I want to support the small shops I like. One of the decks I got is from there so that's also very ok to me!

Posted

I only just saw this thread and so imagine it's last year because this is my plan for this year  :D

- go to tarot forums and communities more. I had a long break last year after ATF and felt I just wanted to avoid visiting any but in the last months of last year I started to post more and realised my enjoyment came back to me! So I want to regularly visit and interact with this and other forums.

- read for as many people as I can! I have had a difficult period in the last few years with my mental health and I stopped reading for all but just a few people as I felt burnt out using my limited energy for others. I want to take part in exchanges, readings and offer friends and people I know. My goal for that is to get experience by reading on different topics and for different people.

- carry on studying and progressing in my fave personal divination areas, tarot, oracles, lenormand and kippers. I love to know many different forms and I want to progress in areas I am very beginner at; astrology, palmistry and Iching. Use Runes again for the first time in ages and practice scrying. I work best with lots of different things going on in divination and I have ignored doing any work in them for a few years. Study Pagan / Wicca spirituality because I always mean to and never do!

- buy decks carefully, no more than one a month and don't be enabled! I aiming for 4 decks a year max. I am bound to fail on this but try to be a little restrained, I am running out of room / money for decks :)

Those are my plans! So far the reading for others thing is going well, I am building up my confidence again gradually and I am progressing in the other plans :)
