Ishtar73 Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 Hi all. I am a seasoned tarot user though not a professional and I've only used them for self-exploration for a long time now (I am 47). In fact, I've recently come back to tarot and have been enjoying exploring decks I hadn't seen before. I came across the Mary-El and loved the artwork, so I purchased them. I still love the artwork, but when I read the book I struggle to understand many of the cards as I feel the meanings deviate significantly in some of them. I struggle most with the minor arcana. I'm not bothered by non-traditional decks - favourites in my collection are the Thoth, Prisma Visions and the El Goliath.I suppose I'm after other people's experiences with this deck and how they came to work with it.
gregory Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 This is one deck I find virtually impossible. It feels like reading someone else's diary and I cannot seem to get past that. The book makes it even worse.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 I sold mine on. Felt like I was rummaging in someone's medicine chest or underwear drawer. I'm sure it means a lot to Mary, but it is too personal for me to be comfortable with. I never had the book so can't speak to that side of the equation.
Millie Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 I gave up on trying to use it as a traditional tarot deck and tend to use it intuitively and more like an oracle, allowing the images to inform the reading, rather than traditional meanings or even the book. I love the images and the style of art but some cards baffle me as tarot meanings.
surreal Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 I find it reads well for me. However, it does take some work to get to know it.

As to the book I find it opens up a lot of questions and rabbit holes which I like. However, if you want a list of meanings for divination then it is not so good.
