Another week closer to 2021, and I will be happy to see the end of the current year.    For so many reasons.   I'm sure we all have our own.  But, it hasn't been all bad.

Back in quarantine again for 10 days.   I think this time it's a bad, bad cold.   I tested negative, but if I'm still not any better by Saturday or so I'm supposed to go in and get re-tested.   Meanwhile I'm drinking lots of tea with honey and lemon, building my own little tissue Mt. Rainier replica, and my co-worker at home (aka the other half) is asking me if I've taken my allowed amounts of Dayquil and cough medicine, and if he's going to have to go get me more tissue, since the dog keeps stealing my boxes.   Maybe. Maybe NOT.  LOL.

Switching over to the Cosmic Cycles Tarot on Saturday.

@VGimlet I'm thinking of you and wishing you plenty of rest and a speedy recovery!

Weather here has been very cold and grey, I'm hoping for some sunshine soon.

My decks for the week are the Tarot of the Spirit by Pamela and Joyce Eakins and the Wisdom Keepers Oracle Deck by Rosy Aronson

Runic Tarot for me, thank you and get well soon VG. I think we are so sick at heart it is taking our mental and physical health down too.

VG, I hope you feel better soon, and hello from Issaquah! I'm new to the forum, and someone mentioned in my intro thread you were also in the area.

I'll be working with my Japaridze deck this week. I've been meaning to try to connect with it for ages, and just haven't taken the time.

Greetings blue_crow_laura,   Welcome to the DOTW group,   Yes, I live in Kent, and I work at the Bellevue Library.  🙂  (I am not shy about it - lol)        AJ-sh/Sharyn is also a Washingtonian.  I think there are a few others of us around as well.

I am starting to feel better, so I think I can avoid getting tested again - unless the powers-that-be decide I should, and then i will.   Because I don't want to infect my co-workers OR our patrons.

Big hugs Mi-Shell.

Sharyn, I think you're right - this year and all the things have been...challenging, on levels from the very small to the world-wide.   And there are still 19 days left.   (checking my zombie invasion supplies, and meteor proofing the roof?  I just don't know...)

I think for my last decks of the year I'm going to use my very favorite and most connected with deck/decks and/or  something that lifts me up.

Thank you for the thread, VG -- especially when you haven't been feeling well. 💐 I am so sorry but very glad you are starting to feel better.

I'm in with the Resurrected Kirchner Besancon Tarot again. It's becoming a favorite.

Sending a virtual hug and good thoughts to all of you with hurting hearts or bodies.:animated-smileys-hug-002:💚

This week I'll be using the Tarot of the Cat People, created by Karen Kuykendall and published by U.S. Games. I'll also be drawing from the Sacred Geometry Oracle, a deck and book set created by John Michael Greer and published by Llewellyn. Today's cards are the World and Spiral:

world.jpgspiral_0002.jpg
The only thing truly within our power, may be whether or not we will behave in each moment with arrogance or reverence. Lawrence Kushner

Rather than someone dancing inside an opening, Kuykendall's card shows a dancer balancing the Earth on her fingertips. There are encounters and ordeals we go through that force us to see beyond our pet opinions and narrow perspectives. These experiences can briefly take us out of our self-centeredness so that we see how even small actions can affect the whole. As a result, our outlook and response to life may be transformed. Yet the Spiral indicates that the clarity and understanding that shines brightly will gradually fade. The daily trudge can dim what inspired us unless we make a conscious effort not to forget. The trick is to keep paying attention with an open mind rather than walking around in our sleep.

We lose something very vital in our life when it’s more important to us to be one who knows than it is to be awake to what’s happening. —Zenkei Blanche Hartman

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! 🙂

So far, I've done two of my daily three-card readings with my Japaridze. One was sort of disconnected, and the other was oddly powerful. The strange (and estranging) nature of the imagery seemed to set me apart from my usual mindset, and I had that weird feeling of being in a dream: it's sort of like horror, because even the most familiar things feel alien, changed, but it's also like awe because everything is so charged. Know what I mean?

Maybe it's just because I'm slightly terrified of clowns! I've never been a big fan of circus or carnival themes; I did love Erin Morgestern's Night Circus but that's about as far as I go. But I am very drawn to the deck, even though it scares me a little. I can't say what my favorite cards are yet, but the Hierophant is one of the most interesting I know, with its William Blake-like "ladder to heaven" and the big old bat as a threshold guardian. I also love all the gardens, and this Four of Fire maypole scene is awesome.

Oh, and the first thing I did when I got it was trim it and make a bag. I haven't edged it yet, but I might use a muted multicolor scheme.

I like how those two decks synchronize. The World globe and the spiral are excellent echoes!

Hi everyone! I will be using the Phantasmagoric Theater Tarot this week 🙂

Welcome, @blue_crow_laura! What a lovely homemade bag!

I think that's why I like using different decks (and adding an oracle card) - it makes me see things from a less familiar mindset, which may pull out some information I've been overlooking. 😄

So far really liking the Cosmic Cycles tarot.    It's going on my more later list.

A modern version of the RWS is what I'm getting so far.   And while I like the classics, I also enjoy a modern twist,  especially if it flows together and doesn't seem forced.

Welcome blue_crow_laura!

That's a beautiful trim job, and your bag is EVERYTHING.

I haven't tried the Japardize yet, but your description of it makes me want to.

Thanks, and thanks! 🙂

For the bags, I use a process very much like this method from Dawn Michelle's BoHo Tarot. I'm also not the greatest seamstress in the world, but I do like browsing Etsy for the perfect fabric for a deck.

@VGimlet, I've looked at the Cosmic Cycles deck  but haven't bit the bullet. I don't actually have a deck with everyday contemporary imagery, and I've been torn between one or two standouts. Have you worked with the Urban Tarot? How does this one stack up, especially in terms of traditional symbolism? Glad you're liking it!
