Yalda Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 Hi all! I am fairly new to learning Tarot. I’ve been reading or trying to read some cards for myself only and also have read the book “A beginner’s guide to understanding the Tarot”. But I feel like each card can have much more meaning to it than what’s in that book. I’ve found some online videos very helpful with card meaning. But I wonder, is there a book that you’ve found helpful for beginners? Any help is appreciated!
joy Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Hello @Yaldiwelcome to the TT&M Family There are various websites and of course books that are helpful. If you browse around in the forum you will find threads discussion books 🙂
TheLoracular Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 @Yaldi Hi Yaldi and welcome! What deck do you currently have? Right now are you most interested in reading tarot for your own self-development or learning divination/forecasting? The #1 book I personally recommend to new readers is Kitchen Table Tarot by Melissa Cynova. I have the audiobook version. If you like Podcasts, Tarot Bytes is wonderful and a very good way to learn a lot. (Disclosure: Theresa Reed is a twitter friend, so I'm biased. XD)

To be honest, so far I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can. There’s so much to learn and so many details! I’ve been doing simple spreads for the questions for my own personal life like work, relationship, etc. I’ll definitely check the book and the podcast out! Thanks!

Well, then, this is required reading:https://www.sacred-texts.com/tarot/pkt/index.htm It won't get you there, but it's part of the necessary foundation. After that, you can branch out in whichever direction you like. But do read Waite's book re: his and PCS's deck.
ShadowMoon Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 Dear @Yaldi, of all the books I bought for tarot learning, my absolutely hands-down favorite and still my go-to book is "The Ultimate Guide to Tarot Card Meanings by Brigit Esselmont" Another life saving book when learning to just read for self was "Tarot for Your Self: A Workbook for the Inward Journey by Mary Greer" Just google search the titles, book these books are easily available on Amazon for purchase as well. Hope the above is helpful and good luck with your journey 👍
ShadowMoon Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 @Yaldi, I would add one more book to the mix: Seventy Eight Degrees of Wisdom: A Book of Tarot by Rachel Pollack
