I began my journey into readings with I-Ching and rune stones, followed by regular cards and Tarot--with a little pendulum work and some color readings thrown in. Tarot seems to me to be the most powerful system. I started with two different RWS decks--radiant and universal--but recently a friend introduced me to the Alchemical Tarot. I've done some pendulum work over the years, and in fact started with that many years before I started studying Tarot. But I agree that Tarot can give a depth of meaning to a reading that some other methods I've observed seem to lack. But, of course, much of that is up to the reader. I've got the Alchemical Tarot: Renewed - the reissue of the original deck. It's beautiful and it is on my list of decks to work through soon.
